Duhan van der Merwe back to face Bulls?
Edinburgh coach Sean Everitt hopes winger Duhan van der Merwe will be fit for their Vodacom United Rugby Championship (URC) quarter-final against the Vodacom Bulls at Loftus on May 31.
The 29-year-old South African has been sidelined since March 28, since suffering an ankle injury, but was still included in the British & Irish Lions squad named on May 8 for their tour of Australia.
'He's running and he's doing really well,' Everitt said after Edinburgh's 47-17 win against Ulster, which booked their place in the top eight after Cardiff lost to the Stormers in Cape Town. 'So we're definitely hoping that we have Duhan for the quarter-final.'
ALSO: I'm going to work on my speed – Duhan
Everitt added that winger Darcy Graham, a surprise omission from the Lions squad who scored a hat trick against Ulster, overcame a heel injury.
'This week he was feeling much better, and you could see it in his performance. He's just got to keep on performing and make it really difficult for the Lions to leave him out should injuries occur.'
URC QUARTER-FINALS: Stormers to tackle champs
Edinburgh will take a few days off, before beginning their preparations for the Bulls, who they beat 34-28 in the Challenge Cup quarter-final at Hive Stadium last month.

Kevin Pietersen praises Proteas win, criticised for playing abroad
South African-born cricketer Kevin Pietersen has praised the Proteas for their historic win at the World Test Championship on Saturday, 14 June. The national cricket team – led by captain Temba Bavuma – defeated Australia by five wickets in the final at Lord's in London. Kevin left SA at the age of 19 over his disdain for racial quotas in local cricket.. After four years of residency, he qualified to play for England, where he eventually became captain of the national team. In several X posts, former South African cricketer Kevin Pietersen praised the Proteas for winning the WTC for the first time. He jokingly added: 'There won't be another country on the planet that wakes up with more hangovers than South Africa. It'll be BABALAS central! Kevin Pietersen's X posts about the national team – noticeably omitting the Proteas' first black test match captain, Temba Bavuma, whose 'racial quotas' appointment criticism has had many eating their words – left many South Africans annoyed. Others brought up his decision to play for England over South Africa. Did you play for England or South Africa? I forget. — 𝑪 𝑹 𝑼 𝑪 𝑬 𝑺 𝑰 𝑮 𝑵 𝑨 𝑻 𝑰 (@crucesignatiDL) June 15, 2025 Kevin Petersen was born in Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal in 1980. He attended the Maritzburg College and was later selected to play for Natal's B team in 1997 at the age of 17 However, in his 2007 autobiography Crossing The Boundary, Kevin revealed the real reason he left SA. An extract of the book, as published by DailyMail, reads: 'I was dropped because the quota system was brought into South African cricket to positively discriminate in favour of 'players of colour' and to fast-track the racial integration of cricket in the country. Cricketer Kevin Pietersen was born in South via Instagram: @kevinpietersen He continued: 'To me, every single person in this world needs to be treated exactly the same. And that should have included me as a promising 20-year-old cricketer. If you do well, you should play on merit. That goes for any person of any colour. It was heartbreaking. Despite feeling forced to leave his homeland, Kevin added that 'it turned out it was the best thing that could have happened.' Kevin Pietersen's family—including three siblings—still lives in SA, even though he considers England 'home.' His mother, Penny, told the Mirror that she was disappointed at the 'hostile reception' from South Africans toward her son in his early playing days. She said, 'That's sad. People should be happy for someone else's success. 'Kevin took the initiative and had the courage to go overseas and realise his dream. And that's something you can't take away from him.'

Prudence Sekgodiso fights hard and smart for third place in Stockholm
World indoor champion Prudence Sekgodiso fought hard and smart to finish third in a competitive 800m race at the Diamond League meet in Stockholm on Sunday in which Olympic champion Jemma Reekie of Britain finished behind her. Kenya's 2023 world champion Mary Moraa turned this into a tactical contest as she slowed down up front early on, letting the pacemaker go ahead, but Sekgodiso kept her head and when Reekie attacked at the end of the first lap, the 23-year-old went with her. Moraa pressed again on the back straight, but Sekgodiso pushed back to stay in touch with the leaders and when they came off the final bend it was a three-way race between the Pretoria runner, Moraa and Briton Georgia Hunter Bell, the Olympic 1,500m bronze medallist. Hunter Bell won in 1min 57.66sec with Moraa second in 1:57.83 and Sekgodiso third in 1:58.00. Audrey Werro of Switzerland was fourth in 1:58.35 and Reekie fifth in 1:58.66. Bradley Nkoana, a member of the South African 4x100m relay teams that won the 2024 Olympic silver and 2024 World Relays gold, finished second in the 100m in 10.23, five-hundredths of a second behind Benjamin Azamati of Ghana. Gift Leotlela, the South African champion over the distance, was disqualified for a false start. Abduraqhman Karriem had to overcome two recalls in the men's 200m, one for crowd noise and the other for a false start by Canadian Olympic gold medallist Aaron Brown. But when the race got under way after the third firing of the start gun, Karriem produced a great start, coming off the bend in contention, but then started tiring to finish fifth in 20.52, well short of his 20.15 personal best.
