Faith and chaos collided in a bizarre episode outside the revered Thakur Banke Bihari Temple in Uttar Pradesh's Vrindavan after a monkey snatched a devotee's purse containing jewellery worth over Rs 20 lakh. The police, with the help of CCTV footage, recovered the bag later.

As per the media reports, Abhishek Agarwal, a resident of Aligarh, had come to Vrindavan with his family and was exiting the temple when a monkey snatched the purse from his wife and vanished through the maze of ancient constructions and narrow lanes.
The woman had taken off the jewellery she was wearing and kept them in the bag for safekeeping while visiting the temple.
The locals tried to rescue the purse from the monkey but failed in their attempt, following which police were informed.
How The Police Recovered The Bag?
After being informed, police personnel reached the spot and Banke Bihari outpost in-charge Prashant Kapil launched a search operation.
With help from CCTV footage and fieldwork, the police traced the bag to a bush where it was stashed and returned it to its owner. Fortunately, all the jewellery was found intact.
Sandeep Kumar, Circle Officer, Sadar, confirmed the incident and said that swift action by police led to the recovery of the snatched purse and the valuables were recovered.
'A devotee named Abhishek Agarwal came to Vrindavan with his family from Aligarh. His wife's purse contained jewellery amounting to nearly Rs 20 lakh. While returning from the Thakur Banke Bihari Temple, a monkey snatched away the bag from him," he said.
'It was by the grace of Lord Banke Bihari that I got my valuables back and I thank Vrindavan police for the help," Agarwal said.
There have been several stories of mischievous monkeys in Vrindavan. In March this year, a report emerged claiming that a monkey there swapped a Samsung S25 Ultra for a mango drink.

UP CM directs officials to take action against fake, shell companies
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday directed officials to take action against shell companies to stop the attempts to misuse the facilities meant for genuine traders. While conducting a high-level review of the State Tax Department, the CM directed officials to ensure transparency in tax collection and adopt a policy of technological efficiency and strict enforcement. "Tax evasion is a national crime that negatively impacts development plans and welfare schemes," he said. Stressing that the Goods and Services Tax (GST) is a consumer-based tax system, he noted that areas with higher population density are naturally expected to generate more tax revenue. He instructed officials to develop special strategies for zones where tax collection is below average. Adityanath directed that information on suspicious firms registered under Central GST (CGST) be shared with the Centre for cancellation of their registration. For firms under State GST (SGST), he ordered in-depth departmental investigations, and if irregularities are found, their registration should be canceled and FIRs lodged. The CM emphasised the need for on-site inspection of all newly registered firms, stating "fake companies should not be allowed to obstruct the rights of honest taxpayers. CM Adityanath said that such acts are an attempt to misuse the facilities meant for genuine traders, which is unforgivable. Such inspections are essential to ensure that genuine businesses can operate fairly and without interference," he said. During the meeting, officials informed the CM that Rs 18,161.59 crore in GST and VAT had been collected during April and May against the financial year 2025-26 target of Rs 1,75,725 crore.

Over 340 encroachments on Beed Bypass Road removed, drive resumes on Monday
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The civic body has cleared more than 340 illegal structures along the Beed Bypass Road during its current anti-encroachment drive. The operation, which started on June 3, will continue from Monday following a two-day pause due to festivities. "The Beed Bypass Road has emerged as one of the fastest-developing commercial and residential areas of the city. The stretch of nearly 6km, from Mahanubhav Chowk to Deolai Chowk, had different encroachments, even on service roads and other road infrastructure. These illegal structures are being removed during the special drive," he said. According to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) officials, the removed structures included both permanent and temporary constructions. "A public notification was issued appealing to people to remove the encroachments. Some of them removed their illegal structures on their own while the remaining did not pay heed to the appeal and attracted fines," Deshmukh said, adding that the drive was carried out under the supervision of municipal commissioner G Sreekanth. Local residents from Satara Deolai and surrounding areas have requested continued action until all unauthorised structures are removed. "Some big hotels and other commercial establishments have encroached upon the service road, causing huge inconvenience to locals. The authorities should also pay attention to service roads being used for illegal vehicle parking by these establishments," said Rajshekhar Wamshi, a private professional.

3 held for supplying illegal liquor using luxury vehicles
Bhopal: Police arrested three bootleggers involved in the transportation of illegal liquor using luxury vehicles in Berasia and Khajuri areas. Police seized large quantities of illicit alcohol and the high-end vehicles used in the smuggling operations. Cases were registered against the accused under the Excise Act. According to Berasia Police, a tip-off was received about a white SUV transporting illegal liquor from Khejda Mishr village towards Sironj. Acting on the information, police set up a checkpoint on Khejda Road and intercepted an SUV matching the given description. Upon inspection, 17 cartons of illegal liquor were recovered from the vehicle. The seized liquor was estimated to be worth Rs 72,000, and the SUV, valued at Rs 10 lakh, was also seized. Two accused, Pankaj Sahu, 25, and Sachin Ahirwar, 23, both residents of Berasia, were arrested at the scene. They were produced before the court after a case was registered under relevant provisions of the Excise Act. In a separate incident, Khajuri Police received intelligence during a night patrol about a white car transporting illegal liquor from Sehore to Bhopal. Police set up a checkpoint near Tumda Jod in Phanda village. A vehicle matching the description was soon spotted. When signalled to stop, the driver abandoned the car and attempted to flee but was apprehended after a brief accused, identified as Piyush Yadav, was taken into custody. A search of the vehicle revealed 30 litres of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL), valued at Rs 48,000. A case under the Excise Act was filed.
