CasaDami Brings European Leisure And Terrific Tapas To Newport Beach
One thing about la dolce vita is that the sweet life is often about the moments when you're lingering, when you're not doing much of anything, when all that matters is the food and drink and people around you.
Southern California has been getting a nice dose of European leisure this year. At the new Alba in West Hollywood, Cobi Levy is celebrating il dolce far niente, which is the sweetness of doing nothing. At Jeremy Adler's new Beethoven Market in L.A.'s Mar Vista neighborhood, happy hour is called ora del dolce far niente. (Having outdoor seating is vital at both Alba and Beethoven Market.) The idea, of course, is that doing nothing can often make you feel everything.
Newport Beach also has a new beautiful new ode to la dolce vita. Going to CasaDami, with a floral-draped 40-seat patio near the water in Peninsula Village, might make you think you're in the Italian Riviera. There are charcuterie boards, caviar service (with both bread and blinis at a restaurant that carefully calibrates every menu item) and chicken Milanese to fill out the postcard-worthy picture.
Chef Rodney Gutierrez (who previously cooked at New York restaurants including Rosemary's) hones in on difference-making little details as he creates tapas at CasaDami. After extensive R&D, Gutierrez uses a housemade focaccia/ciabatta hybrid and heirloom tomatoes from the Santa Monica farmers market for exemplary pan con tomate. He amps up croquetas (with Serrano ham and manchego) by adding in jamón Ibérico de bellota trimmings. This is confident cooking that's nuanced and purposefully understated. The ingredients shine.
CasaDami has luxury and big flavors to spare. Crudo is made with three cuts of tuna, including chutoro and otoro, that are complemented with leche de tigre as well as squid ink tapioca chips.
Partners Camilla Caremoli and Dave Shah debuted CasaDami at the beginning of March to bring both of their dreams to life. Caremoli, who was born and raised in Milan and comes from three generations of a food-industry family, wanted Newport Beach to have a proper European-style all-day café. Shah, an avid wine collector, wanted to open his own wine bar.
CasaDami was born because Caremoli, who's also lived in Miami and Boston, felt that Newport Beach deserved the kind of transporting destination that she's found in other cities.
'Her family still lives in Italy, so we would travel to Italy,' Shah says of the inspiration behind CasaDami. 'And when we were there, we'd go to France and to Spain. And when we came back home, we missed those experiences. We wanted something that's going to really take us back to our happy place, which for both of us is Portofino, Italy.'
Shah has a CasaDami wine list with selections including Château Margaux and super Tuscans. (He says that drinking his first glass of Sassicaia in Italy was what started his 'true love for wine.") Adept CasaDami beverage director/sommelier Allan Camarena, who was previously beverage director at Wolfgang Puck's Merois at the Pendry in West Hollywood, might pour you bangers like Comte Lafond sancerre grande cuvée and Giovanni Manzone barolo Bricat.
Olive oil cake is a standout dessert at CasaDami.
Outshine PR
Both those wines are part of CasaDami's new spring beverage menu and available by the glass. Camarena says he also encourages half glasses and is, of course, happy to personally pair wines with your meal. There are all sorts of great reasons to linger when you have dinner here.
'It's that concept of la dolce vita, where you're more present,' Shah says. 'You're in the moment and you let the experience take over. You let your mind drift away. It's that concept of being transported. That's what we wanted.'
Like many European destinations, CasaDami is set up to be an all-day affair, whether you're looking for an early-morning espresso, a prosciutto sandwich for lunch, truffle eggs Benedict for weekend brunch or a wagyu flat iron steak (a dish that nods to Gutierrez's Filipino heritage, with chile onion jam alongside parsley veloute and charred lime) for dinner. Olive oil cake is a fantastic sweet but not too sweet finish after lunch, brunch or dinner.
Dom Pérignon by the glass is available all day ('from 7 a.m. to close,' Camarena stresses). Mid-afternoon golden hour means you can pair Dom with charcuterie and caviar before the sun starts setting.
Whether you're on the patio, in the dining room or at the 15-seat Italian marble bar, CasaDami feels like vacation even if you live nearby. In-the-know locals, in fact, are raving about how this restaurant is unlike anything else in Newport Beach. Expect to see a lot of blissful guests partaking in the sweet life here this summer, doing nothing and enjoying everything.

Beyoncé's 13-Year-Old Daughter Blue Ivy 'Considering' Major Career Move As She Dazzles At Her Mother's Tour
Blue Ivy, the eldest daughter of music powerhouses Beyoncé and Jay-Z, is reportedly "considering" stepping into the music spotlight herself. The 13-year-old is said to already have some writers penning potential songs and has also been working with her mother's sister, Solange Knowles, to write her own material. Earlier in the year, Beyoncé also received the go-ahead to trademark Blue Ivy's name, which experts believe will ensure the name can not be used for "unauthorized purposes." After captivating audiences with her impressive choreography during the opening night of her mother's Cowboy Carter tour, Blue Ivy has reportedly caught the music bug, just like her superstar parents. "Blue is considering starting her own career in music," an insider told the Daily Mail. "Some of Beyoncé's favorite writers are quietly penning demos for her in anticipation of a solo album." Interestingly, the teenager doesn't intend to rely solely on her mother's writers if she chooses to pursue a music career. She has reportedly also been spending time developing her material with the help of her aunt, Solange Knowles. "Blue is also writing material with help from Solange," the insider further remarked, before adding that renowned songwriter and producer, The-Dream, is also involved. "The-Dream has been spearheading it, and he has two or three records for her. They know the fans want to hear a Blue record," the source also revealed. Already, Blue Ivy has shown rare signs she might have the talent to follow in the footsteps of her famous parents. At just seven years old, she was featured in her mother's "Homecoming: The Live Album" with her own rendition of the hymn "Lift Every Voice and Sing." She also sang in Beyoncé's 2019 hit single "Brown Skin Girl," with the music video going on to win the award for Best Music Video at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards. In 2023, Blue Ivy took things a step further by performing a duet with her mom during a show in Dubai. Meanwhile, during JAY-Z's induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Blue Ivy added a heartwarming touch to the celebration by reworking a few lines from the rapper's song "Ride Or Die" to deliver a brief but memorable rap on camera. "Congrats S. Carter, ghostwriter, you paid the right price, so we just make your hits tighter," she rhymed at the time, per Revolt. If the teenager ultimately launches a music career, industry insiders predict that major brands will be lining up to collaborate with her from the very beginning. "Blue Ivy could easily secure multi-million-dollar deals, lucrative brand partnerships, and significant earnings from streaming platforms and endorsements right from the start," PR expert Stacy Jones told the Daily Mail. "Think Olivia Rodrigo or Billie Eilish, but amplified due to her family background." The Hollywood Branded CEO went on to admit that it might be impossible for Blue Ivy to achieve the same height as her mother, but that she has a strong chance of achieving major success. "Could she become as big as Beyoncé? Honestly, that's an extraordinarily high bar, but if Blue Ivy delivers real talent, authenticity, and genuinely connects with fans, especially Gen Z, there's no reason she couldn't carve out her own substantial legacy," added the PR expert. As Blue Ivy continues to rise to stardom, her mother is making sure that she continues to stand out, per The U.S. Sun. Earlier in the year, the pop star received approval to trademark her daughter's name, which PR expert Grayce McCormick claimed "reflects her keen awareness of personal branding and legacy building." The Lightfinder PR founder also hinted that Beyoncé bringing her daughter on her then-Renaissance World Tour was an act of introducing her into the "public consciousness as an emerging talent." Further reflecting on the trademark, McCormick said it will ensure that Blue Ivy's name cannot be used for "unauthorized purposes" that "could harm their reputation or exploit their identity." She added that it would also help the family to "build a consistent and authentic brand narrative" for Blue Ivy regardless of what endeavors she intends to use it for. According to McCormick, fans of Beyoncé can expect to see the singer continue to shape her daughter's career path, which already boasts an impressive resume that includes narrating a New York Times best-selling book and landing a lead role in "Mufasa." "Collaborations on philanthropic initiatives, a gradual introduction to creative projects, and opportunities for Blue Ivy to speak or appear independently will help shape her narrative," the PR expert said. McCormick continued, "By blending mentorship with moments that allow Blue Ivy to shine independently, Beyoncé is not just securing her daughter's career foundation, she is also setting an inspiring example of parenting in the public eye."

Jared Leto accused of sexual misconduct and 'predatory, terrifying' behaviour by nine women
Oscar-winning American actor and Thirty Seconds From Mars frontman Jared Leto has been accused of sexual misconduct by nine women. In a report published by Air Mail, multiple women accused the 53-year-old star of Fight Club, Requiem For A Dream, Dallas Buyers Club and Suicide Squad of inappropriate behaviour. The allegations date back to the early 2000s, with one woman calling it 'an open secret' that he texted sexual remarks to teenage models. Allegations against Leto emerged last month, when DJ Allie Teilz shared an old Facebook post, written in 2012, on her Instagram Story. 'Youre [sic] not really in L.A. until Jared Leto tries to force himself on you backstage… In a kilt.. And a snow hat. I was assaulted and traumatized by this creep when I was 17,' she wrote. In separate story, she added: 'He knew my age and didn't care. What he did was predatory, terrifying and unacceptable.' One woman told the publication that in 2006, when she was 16-years-old, Leto approached her outside a Los Angeles café. She claimed Leto was sat with fellow actor Ashley Olsen – who was then 19 – and he had grabbed her arm. 'I looked down and it was Jared Leto,' she told Air Mail, adding: 'We had a quick conversation, and he got my number.' She went on to say that Leto called her home a few days later, recalling: 'I don't know if he was on drugs or what … It was the weirdest, grossest voice … [but] for me, it's Jared, you know?' 'And the conversations turned sexual,' she continued. 'He'd ask things like: 'Have you ever had a boyfriend? Have you ever sucked a dick?'' Model Laura La Rue came forward with similar claims, saying that when she was 16-years-old in 2008, she was at an event in a private residence in Beverly Hills where Leto was 'watching her so intensely'. 'He asked how old I was. I said, 'I'm 16. How old are you?'' La Rue told Air Mail. Leto, who was 36 at the time, then reportedly asked for her number. The two began an email correspondence, which resulted in her visiting Leto's home in April 2009, the outlet alleges. 'I remember him teasing me the whole time I was there,' La Rue said, adding: 'He was flirting with me. He'd lean in close, then pull away, like it was a game.' She described a separate visit when she was 17 years old, where she alleged Leto walked out of a room completely naked. 'He just walked out, dick out, like it was normal… I thought maybe this was just what adult men do,' she said. Another woman who spoke to the outlet said that she and Leto began texting while she was still underage. She alleged he would ask her inappropriate questions during her visits to his house, including 'Do any of the little boys you hang out with fuck you?' The woman alleged that once, when she was 18, Leto had 'suddenly pulled his penis out and started masturbating'. She told Air Mail: 'He walked over, grabbed my hand, and put it on him. He leaned in and said: 'I want you to spit on it.'' A representative of Leto has 'expressly denied' the multiple accusations reported in the Air Mail exposé, saying the claims were 'demonstrably false'. This is not the first time that Leto's behaviour has been questioned and called out. Similar claims were made in 2005, when The New York Post shared a story with the opening line: 'Jared Leto likes 'em young' after he had been spotted with Olsen and Lindsay Lohan. At the time, sources told the publication he had been 'aggressively pursuing many of the teen models shacked up at the Maritime Hotel'. In 2018, Metro reported on a Twitter post made by Dylan Sprouse, who is married to model Barbara Palvin. The post read: 'Yo @JaredLeto now that you've slid into the DMs of every female model aged 18–25, what would you say your success rate is?' Guardians Of The Galaxy and Superman director James Gunn replied to Sprouse's tweet at the time, saying: 'He starts at 18 on the internet?'
