ISRO set to launch its 101st satellite, EOS-09 aboard PSLV-C61 tomorrow
New Delhi [India], May 17 (ANI): The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to launch its 101st satellite, EOS-09, aboard the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C61) on Sunday, May 18. This will be the 63rd flight of the PSLV and the 27th using the PSLV-XL configuration.

The mission will place the Earth Observation Satellite into a Sun Synchronous Polar Orbit (SSPO), continuing PSLV's track record of dependable performance across various payloads and orbits.
After the EOS-09 satellite is deployed, Orbit Change Thrusters (OCT) will be used to lower the altitude of the PS4 stage. This will be followed by passivation, a measure aimed at reducing the stage's orbital life and ensuring responsible space operations.EOS-09 is designed to deliver continuous and reliable remote sensing data for use in various operational sectors.
According to ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan, 'The launch is scheduled for 5:59 am from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.'The PSLV-C61 rocket has already been moved to the Mobile Service Tower at the launch site for final integration and checks.
Former ISRO scientist Manish Purohit said EOS-09 is a follow-on mission to the earlier RISAT-1 satellite. 'This launch is strategically timed,' he said.
'It strengthens monitoring at borders and coasts, particularly with respect to sensitive areas. The satellite can detect ingress or suspicious movement deemed vital in anti-terror operations, especially after the recent Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor,' he added.
Earlier, ISRO Chairman Narayanan had highlighted the importance of space technology for national security and development, stating, 'With the PSLV-C61/EOS-09 mission, ISRO continues to demonstrate its commitment to both technological excellence and the national interest.'
IN-SPACe Chairman Pawan Kumar Goenka also stressed the importance of continuously improving space capabilities.
ISRO is also preparing to launch the NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) satellite aboard the GSLV-F16. NISAR will use dual-band radar systems developed by both NASA and ISRO to track changes in Earth's surface, ecosystems, and natural disasters, providing valuable data on global environmental conditions.
EOS-09 is an advanced Earth observation satellite equipped with C-band synthetic aperture radar technology. It can capture high-resolution images of the Earth's surface under all weather conditions, day or night. This capability enhances India's surveillance and management systems across multiple sectors.(ANI)

Surat: A forestry doctoral candidate at Navsari Agricultural University (NAU), Preeti Vats, has secured a position as a scientist at the Indian Space Research Organisation ( ISRO ) . She is set to commence her role at the Space Application Centre (SAC) in Ahmedabad in the coming week, where she will focus on India's forest management initiatives. Originally from a farming background in Tumbaheri village in Haryana's Jhajjar district, Vats earned her bachelor's degree from NAU's forestry college and completed her master's at Kerala Agricultural University (KAU). Industry body IESA pushes for green reuse of EV batteries
New Delhi [India], June 3 (ANI): The Industry body, Energy Storage Association in India (IESA), has said the Centre should ensure collaboration among the Ministries of Environment, Power, and New and Renewable Energy to maximise the potential of used electric vehicle batteries in stationary applications and enhance material efficiency. The industry body said in a release that this partnership should focus on establishing clear norms for the reuse of used batteries, including necessary licensing and procedures. The industry body added that the country lacks a well-functioning open market to promote technology solutions for grid balancing. The IESA added that the ancillary services market needs improvement to enhance energy storage deployment and support the grid. It further added that the government should ensure the timely implementation of the draft Indian Electricity Grid Code (IEGC) 2022, allowing storage to be part of primary reserves. India needs to learn from other countries, especially the UK, which links ancillary service payments to service performance and categorises response times (sub-second, 1 second, 10 seconds, etc) to boost the adoption of suitable technologies, the IESA said. The recommendations also included lower entry barriers for technologies and stakeholders, import duty reduction, GST reduction, a compliance framework for energy storage obligations, and the addition of technical specifications for the operation of energy storage systems in tropical climatic conditions in India. The industry body said that a collaborative approach between the government and business can go a long way in ensuring sustainable growth for the energy storage market. Debmalya Sen, President, India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA) said, 'As we stand on the brink of a transformative shift in India's energy landscape, it is important that we foster a robust policy and regulatory framework that accelerates the deployment of energy storage solutions. Our recommendations, gathered from over 25 industry leaders, aim to ensure safety and innovation in energy storage technologies, ensuring a sustainable and secure energy future for all Indians. This will not only enhance grid stability but also propel us towards our ambitious renewable energy targets.' IESA has recommended to the government that nations worldwide are facing supply chain issues that threaten the growth strategies of various economies. Having a clear assessment of supply chain risks and a definite plan for material procurement is also very relevant for India, as it is planning to adopt energy storage to progress on its energy transition and provide a clear outlook of the energy storage market to all stakeholders. IESA has recommended to the government that nations worldwide are facing supply chain issues that threaten the growth strategies of various economies. New Delhi [India], June 3 (ANI): Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and UK Permanent Under-Secretary Oliver Robbins co-chaired the 17th UK-India Foreign Office Consultations and the inaugural Strategic Exports and Technology Cooperation Dialogue in the national capital on Tuesday, focusing on deepening the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership across trade, technology, defence, and people-to-people exchanges. The Foreign Secretary also thanked the UK Government for its expression of solidarity and support in India's fight against terrorism. '17th India-UK Foreign Office Consultations and 1st Strategic Exports and Technology Cooperation Dialogue co-chaired by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Permanent Under Secretary Oliver Robbins were held in New Delhi. Wide ranging discussions on entire gamut of bilateral relations focusing on further deepening & diversifying India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in areas of Trade & Economy, Technology, Science, Innovation, Defence & Security, Education, Health & Climate & People-to-People exchanges took place. Economic growth is the number one mission of the UK Government. Both agreed to work towards implementing the shared vision of the two prime ministers for an ambitious partnership between the UK and India over the next decade,' the statement read. 'This year's consultations included the inaugural Strategic Exports and Technology Cooperation Dialogue, aimed at building mutual understanding of systems and agreeing on areas for future cooperation on key sectors such as technology and defence,' it further added.
