MLB Team Draws Disappointing Crowd on Thursday Despite Winning Record
There were a total of 11 games across the MLB on Thursday as the rest of the league had an off day or a travel day.
With May now here, only three teams have 20 or more wins: The Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets and Detroit Tigers.

However, a number of teams have 19 wins as of May 1, with the San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants and Chicago Cubs all on the cusp of the 20-win threshold.
On Thursday, the Giants hosted the Colorado Rockies in the first of a four-game series in San Francisco.
The Rockies have the worst record in the MLB with just five wins entering Thursday, but they snuck out a 4-3 win over the Giants at Oracle Park.

Surprisingly, it was the Rockies' second straight win and the Giants' third straight loss. The Giants are fresh off a two-game sweep against the Padres.
However, Oracle Park was not as full as usual on Thursday as the Giants drew a disappointing crowd.

Right at first pitch, one video surfaced that showed a lot of empty seats.
First pitch was at 6:45 pm PT in San Francisco, but fans were not flocking to the stadium to watch the last-place Rockies.
Later, another photo surfaced of the crowd in the sixth inning, and there were still a lot of empty seats.
The attendance number from ESPN was 27,198, although it looked like far less than that.
For comparison, the Giants are 8th in the league in average attendance with a 35,132 per game.
But, for a team just a couple of games away from first place in the National League West, it was a bit disappointing, and the loss didn't make things any better.

On April 24, which was also a Thursday, the Giants' attendance was just over 28,000, although that was a 12:45 pm PT start compared to an evening start for this one.
The Giants have three more home games against the Rockies before hitting the road for a six-game trip.

Giants Star Challenges Top Spot in DT Rankings
Giants Star Challenges Top Spot in DT Rankings originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Former general manager Dave Gettleman will go down in New York Giants history as a villain. Between drafting a running back with the No. 2 pick, trading the franchise's most iconic receiver, and signing several busts in free agency, the fanbase's vitriol is understandable. But it wasn't all bad. Advertisement In the Odell Beckham Jr. trade, the Giants received the No. 17 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Gettleman called defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence and told him to get ready for East Rutherford. Gettleman was criticized for the move based on Lawrence's positional value as a nose tackle and (perceived) inability to impact the passing game. In recent years, Lawrence has put those concerns to rest and emerged as New York's best player. Subsequently, the Giants star challenged the top spot of Pro Football Focus' defensive tackle rankings, ultimately falling behind only Kansas City Chiefs lineman Chris Jones. 'Lawrence logged only 550 snaps in 2024 due to some missed time, but he recorded an 89.0-plus PFF overall grade (89.9) for the third season in a row,' Trevor Sikkema wrote. 'His 1.07 PFF WAR over the past three years sits behind only Chris Jones at the position.' Advertisement It has been easy to tune out New York given its struggles, but Lawrence shouldn't be taken for granted. He's more than a blue-chip talent and the center of this defense – he's a force multiplier and one of the best pass-rushing nose tackles the game has ever seen. Lawrence's 2024 was cut short due to an elbow injury, and it may have robbed him of Defensive Player of the Year votes. In just 12 games, he logged a career-high nine sacks with 44 tackles and eight tackles for loss to boot. In the two seasons prior, he rose to prominence and earned two second-team All-Pro nominations. Lawrence is a mandatory double team who amplifies his edge rushers and can spoil plays by himself against the run and pass. There isn't a nose tackle as potent in the NFL, and that unique skill set garners real consideration for the No. 1 spot at the position. Jaylon Smith Seeking a Career Revival with Las Vegas Raiders
Jaylon Smith Seeking a Career Revival with Las Vegas Raiders originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Former Dallas Cowboys linebacker Jaylon Smith has reportedly been turning heads during OTAs with the Las Vegas Raiders. Advertisement After not playing at all last season, Smith is aiming to secure a spot on the 53-man roster in his second stint with the Raiders. Smith signed with Las Vegas following a tryout during rookie minicamp and hasn't looked back. The 29-year-old Indiana native is approaching this opportunity with Las Vegas like his career depends on it. Smith recorded the first interception of Raiders OTAs, per team reporter Levi Edwards. Linebacker is a position of need for the Raiders after they did not re-sign breakout star Robert Spillane, who signed with the Patriots as a free agent. Smith is competing for a role in an inside linebacker group that has more questions than answers. Advertisement Newly signed linebackers Elandon Roberts and Devin White are the projected starters. The rest of the linebacker room features unproven players, including Cody Lindenberg, who was selected in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft. While it has been three years since Smith last played more than 10 games in a season, he had a productive year with the Giants in 2022. Across 11 games during the 2022 season, he compiled 88 tackles, three tackles for loss, and 31 defensive stops, per PFF. With the Cowboys, Smith proved to be a productive player early in his career - his battle to overcome an horrific knee injury at Notre Dame is legendary - and made the Pro Bowl in 2019. However, after signing a five-year, $63.75 million extension with Dallas in 2019, Smith's production began to steadily decline—leading to his release during the 2021 season. Hopefully Smith will find his footing with the Raiders and resurrect his career. Deion Sanders: Pre-draft attacks on Shedeur and Shilo "hurt"
Colorado coach Deion Sanders witnessed both of his sons plummet through the draft order. Shedeur lasted until found five. Shilo wasn't drafted at all. Appearing recently on Asante Samuel's Say What Needs To Be Said podcast, Deion explained the impact of witnessing what his sons endured. 'It hurt,' Deion said, via Jack Carlough of 'But the bible says God uses the foolish things to confound the wise. There was some foolish stuff that went on, but that gave them something that they needed. . . . That edge that Tom (Brady) had, it gave them the edge that you had, it gave them the edge that I have. Folks said we weren't gonna be nothing. But we had to prove that. It gave them the edge that they needed. Both of them.' Deion took issue with reports that Shedeur was not properly prepared for pre-draft meetings, with teams like the Giants. 'When you sit up there and say something like he went into a meeting unprepared, like, dude,' Deion said. 'Shedeur Sanders? Who has had six different [offensive] coordinators, who has still functioned and leveled-up every time we brought somebody new in, and you're gonna tell me he was unprepared? You're gonna tell me he had on headphones? Anybody who knows my son understands he's a professional. He's gonna go into a meeting with headphones on? Y'all, come on now.' Still, credible sources have explained the perception that Shedeur was behaving as if he was being recruited, not interviewed. With other quarterbacks creating a much different impression, Shedeur's draft stock suffered relative to his competition. Deion nevertheless regards the incessant chatter about Shedeur to be 'lying.' And he believes both Shedeur and Shilo (who wasn't invited to the Combine and wasn't expected to be drafted) will be better for the experience. 'You got to understand my kids are built for everything,' Deion said. 'We had two TV shows, we had shows in high school with playing football junior and senior years. We've always been in front of the camera, so they know how to navigate, they know how to handle themselves. You're not going to catch them in no foolery or no mess. You're not going to do that whatsoever.' Both Shedeur and Shilo are getting an opportunity. Both will have a fair chance to earn a Week 1 roster spot. And if they can turn draft-day disappointment into motivation, they'll be better for it in the long run.
