A military parade through the streets of Washington, D.C., is being held to celebrate the U.S. Army's 250th anniversary on Saturday, June 14 — which also happens to be President Trump's 79th birthday. Army officials say about 6,600 soldiers, 150 vehicles and more than 50 aircraft are set to participate.
The parade along the National Mall will be free and open to the public. Hundreds of thousands are expected to attend the festivities, D.C. officials said.
The parade is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. EDT.

The parade route runs along Constitution Avenue in Washington, D.C. It kicks off at 23rd Street NW, near the Lincoln Memorial, then proceeds along the National Mall, past the White House and the Washington Monument, until it reaches its endpoint at 15th Street NW.
Organizers say the parade will go forward rain or shine — and there is a chance of rain in the forecast.
The parade is expected to last about an hour. It will be followed by a concert at the Ellipse in front of the White House and then a fireworks display scheduled for 9:45 p.m. EDT.
U.S. Army 250th Birthday Festival
Along with the parade, the Army is also hosting a 250th Birthday Festival with events on the Mall throughout the day, including a fitness competition, military demonstrations and live music. The festival is open to the public from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The city doth protest too much? Hamlet gets LA curfew exemption

It's a story of revenge, corruption and a quest for power -- William Shakespeare's "Hamlet" was playing Friday inside the curfew zone set up to control protests in Los Angeles. Theater-goers with a valid ticket for the performance in Downtown LA were exempted from the overnight lockdown that has left much of the city center looking as ghostly as the banquet in Shakespeare's play about the prince of Denmark. "The Los Angeles Mayor's Office has updated guidance on the Downtown LA area curfew and has granted an exception to allow individuals with tickets to an indoor venue to attend that event as scheduled," said an announcement on the Center Theatre Group's website. "Center Theatre Group, The Music Center, and the surrounding streets have not been directly impacted by protest or law enforcement activity." Protests sprang up in Los Angeles last week over President Donald Trump's increased immigration raids as anger grew in the sprawling multicultural city. Violence flared, notably on Sunday when autonomous cars were set on fire and rocks were burled at police, but the demonstrations have been mostly peaceful. Trump, who has repeatedly exaggerated the scale of the protests, deployed 4,700 soldiers, including active duty Marines, in what he says is a necessary step to bring order. Opponents accuse him of a power grab and say troops have no place in policing civilian protest. A "No Kings" movement promises protests in more than 2,000 places across the country, including a large demonstration in Los Angeles, on Saturday. hg/st

Brian Wilson, Beach Boys Icon, Dead at 82

The man responsible for writing hits like "Surfin' USA," "California Girls," and "Wouldn't It Be Nice," has passed away. Brian Wilson, the co-founder of The Beach Boys, died at the age of 82, according to a statement published to the musician's website and social media pages. He made multiple albums with The Beach Boys in the 1960s, including Pet Sounds and Smile, before splintering off to release his own albums. His cause of death was not specified, but during his lifetime he struggled with an illness similar to dementia. In an Instagram post on his page, his family announced his death. "We are heartbroken to announce that our beloved father Brian Wilson has passed away," the post wrote. "We are at a loss for words right now. Please respect our privacy at this time as our family is grieving. We realize that we are sharing our grief with the world." Wilson was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 and has won three Grammys. This is a breaking story. Check back later for more updates. What's Known About Brian Wilson's Cause of Death & Health Issues

At the time he died, legendary Beach Boy Brian Wilson was dealing with a series of serious health issues. The maestro behind the band's famous "California sound," Wilson passed away at age 82, according to a June 11 post by his family on Instagram. How did Wilson die? That post did not specify an official cause of death, and one has not yet been released. However, there is much known about the health problems he was dealing with before his death. In 2024, Wilson had declined to the degree that a Los Angeles court put him under a conservatorship, USA Today reported. Wilson had suffered the blow of his long-time wife Melinda's death; when she died at age 77 in January 2024, he memorialized her as his "savior," saying he was "lost." His decline at the time was attributed to an undefined "neurocognitive disorder," but it was later revealed that he had been diagnosed with dementia. Court filings in the conservatorship, seen by TMZ, revealed that Wilson was dealing with a "major neurocognitive disorder" and "taking medication for dementia," making it so he could not "properly care for his basic personal needs such as food, clothing, or shelter." That May, his daughters, Carnie and Wendy Wilson, opened up about his condition to Entertainment Tonight. Brian Wilson was well enough to attend the premiere of the Disney+ documentary on the Beach Boys. "He is doing great! He is doing great. Every day he is in physical therapy. I'm cooking for him, he's spending a lot of time with his children now, his family," Carnie said to ET. "I'm so happy he's here tonight." Throughout his life, Brian Wilson also dealt with "a rabbit hole of despair and depression when his highly anticipated masterwork was shelved unfinished," the Los Angeles Times reported. The Times also reported that Wilson was diagnosed with dementia after the death of his wife Melinda, which led to him being placed in the conservatorship. Wilson's family announced his death on June 11, writing on his Instagram page, "We are heartbroken to announce that our beloved father Brian Wilson has passed away. We are at a loss for words right now. Please respect our privacy at this time as our family is grieving. We realize that we are sharing our grief with the world. Love & Mercy." Brian Wilson, his brothers, and two other band members made music history with their California sound, which made them "international ambassadors of surf and sun," KTLA-TV Known About Brian Wilson's Cause of Death & Health Issues first appeared on Men's Journal on Jun 11, 2025
