UH Law Center's Professor Chandler Launches "AI for Legal Education" Blog to Guide the Next Generation of Lawyers
HOUSTON, June 13, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — For a law student in 2025, is refusing to use Artificial Intelligence the same as a 1990s student refusing to use a computer? University of Houston Law Center Foundation Professor Seth J. Chandler argues it is, and he has launched a new blog, AI for Legal Education, as an essential guide for students, faculty, and alumni navigating this new reality.
The blog (legaled.ai) directly addresses the challenges and opportunities of AI, contending that students not actively using these tools risk a significant disadvantage in their studies and their careers. In his post, 'If I Were a Law Student Today,' Chandler outlines a core toolkit and workflow for using AI to learn more deeply, manage information, and prepare for a legal profession that is rapidly adopting AI for research, drafting, and analysis.
While providing a roadmap for students is a key focus, the blog offers practical resources for the entire legal community. Chandler takes an 'educator-first' perspective, demonstrating through actionable posts how AI can augment—not replace—legal expertise.
Content on the blog is designed for immediate application, with posts that include:
A Modern Student's Playbook: Outlining the essential AI toolkit for today's law students and arguing that AI proficiency is now a core competency for a legal career.
Actionable Workflows for Experts: A step-by-step demonstration of how to use AI to analyze a complex Supreme Court opinion and prepare media-ready commentary in under 30 minutes.
Practical, Accessible Tutorials: Guides on building custom AI assistants ('Gems' or 'CustomGPTs') without needing to be a programmer. As Chandler notes, 'English is the new programming language.'
Bringing decades of experience in mathematics, computer science, and law, Chandler aims to create a space 'to think seriously, and sometimes playfully, about how the world of legal education is changing.'
He encourages the UH Law Center community and others to engage with the project by subscribing (at no charge) to the blog, emphasizing that AI integration is no longer a distant hypothetical. The blog is a resource for students aiming to enter the workforce with a decisive advantage, faculty seeking to enhance their teaching, and alumni navigating a changing professional landscape.

* In keeping with Professor Chandler's philosophy, this press release is itself a collaboration of humans and AI.

Govt allocates RM30mil to help media adapt to AI, digital shift
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced an allocation of RM30 million to help future-proof journalism while upholding ethical standards. (Bernama pic) PUTRAJAYA : The government has set aside RM30 million to help media organisations embrace digital transformation and the rise of artificial intelligence, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced today. Calling it the largest-ever allocation for the industry, Anwar said the funds would be used for training, capacity-building and exposure for journalists, particularly younger ones, to ensure the profession is not left behind. 'I have agreed to allocate a larger sum to support media organisations in the country as an initial step,' he said at the National Journalists Day (Hawana) celebration at World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur today. 'It is to ensure the world of journalism is not left behind in keeping up with changes brought by the emergence of AI, while also ensuring a balance between AI and journalistic ethics.' At a press conference later, communications minister Fahmi Fadzil said the mechanism for media companies to apply for funding will be announced soon. He said the new allocation is a continuation of Project Sigma, a collaboration between his ministry and Google, that had helped over 30 media organisations in finding new revenue sources. 'We called it Project Sigma, in conjunction with Gen Z who likes to use the word 'sigma'. It intends to help media organisations better understand the new generation's way of viewing and consuming media,' he said. Following the encouraging results from the project, he said the ministry applied for a further RM30 million fund to re-create similar efforts. 'This is to help them achieve financial sustainability,' he said. Stay clear of 'manufacturing dissent' Anwar also urged the media to resist becoming propaganda tools for those with vested interests. He said media freedom is a fundamental pillar of democracy and crucial for protecting the freedom to give criticism and provide feedback. However, he said, the government will not tolerate the 'distortion of perceptions' to insult and attack others. '(American philosopher) Noam Chomsky called this 'manufacturing consent' because people are forced to accept the narrative. 'However, we must remember that we also have to reject 'manufacturing dissent'. 'There must be a balance between taking advantage of our freedom of information and ensuring it is not exploited to oppress any racial groups,' he said.

NTW 2025 records over two million participants
KUALA LUMPUR — The 2025 National Training Week (NTW), held to promote greater participation in skills training among Malaysians, has recorded over two million participants, exceeding its initial one million target. Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong said the third edition of NTW offered more than 71,000 free courses nationwide, conducted physically, online and in hybrid formats, from today until June 21. 'More than 41 per cent of the courses are related to Industry 4.0. To improve the people's skills in this area, the Human Resources Ministry (KESUMA) collaborated with the Ministry of Education (MOE) to implement the AI-4-Educators programme from April 7 to June 12. 'This is to train nearly 400,000 educators in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for teaching techniques, skills and related issues such as ethics, so that frontliners in our human capital development sector are equipped with the knowledge and skills to face the challenges of the AI era,' he said when speaking at the NTW ceremony at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium here today. The AI-4-Educators programme, comprising five self-training modules covering the use of AI in teaching, accessibility and ethics, has been recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records for recording the largest participation of educators in an AI training programme. Sim said the government had allocated about RM10 billion for skills development, of which 30 per cent came from levies imposed on private companies to train their employees. 'KESUMA is aware that with such a large financial allocation, the strategy must be aligned with current needs so that the people can benefit from it. Therefore, last year we introduced the MyMahir portal, which helps not only government agencies and private companies but also individuals to make informed decisions on skills development plans based on economic criteria. 'In this first year, KESUMA found that our trainees earned an average salary that was 12 per cent higher than the general market average. This programme will be expanded more aggressively so that more workers benefit from the MADANI Government's investment in skills development,' he said. Meanwhile, the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp), in a statement, said that among the popular courses during NTW 2025 were Neurodiversity Virtual Training, Cyber Security Threat Management (CSTM), ChatGPT Malaysia Community: Malaysia's Premier AI Learning Platform, Drone Flying Skills for New Pilots, Tax Planning for Individuals 2025, and Generative AI For Everyone. All activities implemented under NTW 2025 were based on five primary thrusts, namely Life Skills, Future Skills, Creativity and Innovation, Financial Literacy, and Sustainable Development. — BERNAMA
