Luis Enrique names his choice to win Ballon d'Or after Champions League final
Luis Enrique believes one of his star players is worthy of winning the Ballon d'Or after Paris Saint-Germain's Champions League triumph.
The French club romped to an astonishing 5-0 win over Inter in Munich to secure their long-awaited first European crown.
A Desire Doue double, as well as goals from Achraf Hakimi, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and substitute Senny Mayulu, secured a historic treble for PSG who have come of age under their Spanish coach.
And while he didn't get on the scoresheet last night, Enrique singled out Dembele for special praise after the Frenchman produced another tone-setting display, pressing the life out of Inter's backline and playing a key role in two of the goals.
Dembele has come a long way since he was left out of the squad for a group stage defeat against Arsenal but returned with a new, revamped attitude that has yielded incredible results.
'As a team, we have demonstrated an incredible way of defending,' said Enrique in his post match press conference.
'Everyone is talking about the Ballon d'Or. I would give it to Ousmane Dembele for his way of defending.
'He is a model, his pressing. In the final, he was exceptional. He deserves it for his goals but especially for his way of defending.
'We have put in some very high-level performances. Now we are going to celebrate that.'
Enrique joined PSG last July and has overseen the development of a brilliant young team following the departure of star striker Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid.
It was the 55-year-old's second treble as a manager after winning the Champions League, LaLiga and Copa del Rey at Barcelona in 2015.
The Eiffel Tower was lit up in the red and blue of PSG to mark their first Champions League triumph, and only the second by a French club after Marseille in 1993.
Enrique said: 'Since day one, I said I wanted to win important trophies, and Paris had never won the Champions League.
'We did it for the first time. It's a great feeling to make many people happy.
'I tried to keep the pressure down for a club that had never won the competition. Inter are a great side, but we were fantastic in our pressing. More Trending
'Every player improved this season, and so did the team.
'A coach needs to control their emotions – you need to deal with the pressure in order to help the players.
'We prepared the final with the necessary calm to put the excitement in the right place. Now we can enjoy it; we can take the trophy back to Paris.
'We had a great start to the game, dominating from the beginning. But I wanted them to keep pushing, scoring, to ensure we won the game.'

Australia boss Tony Popovic says Nectar Triantis has pulled out the Australia squad, as speculation continues around his future. Hibs would love to bring the Sunderland loanee back to Easter Road for a third spell after a stellar loan during the 24/25 campaign. Triantis was converted from defender to all action midfielder and was pivotal as Hibs finished third in the Premiership, heading back to the Stadium of Light after his loan. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad He was called up to the Australia squad for a training camp which also includes Hibs teammates Lewis Miller, Jack Iredale and Martin Boyle. While the exact reasons for doing are unclear, Boss Tony Popovic says the star - who is also eligible to play for the Greek national team - has opted to take himself out of international duty as uncertainty around his future bubbles in the background. Australia boss update on Hibs target He said: 'I'm not too sure where it exactly sits. But we had him in the squad for the camp, and on the day that he was supposed to travel, he informed us that he's not coming in. He just said he's got a lot of things on at the moment, a lot on his mind in terms of what he wants to do. We have to respect that, and we'll see what happens.' Meanwhile, Iredale has taken delight in getting the call to be in and around the Socceroos. Almost a year on from his move to Hibs after time in the EFL, the defender has reflected on his first season at Easter Road. Jack Iredale on Hibs stint so far Speaking to The West, Iredale said: 'It was a really fun season. It didn't start very well, we had the goal of European football and then found ourselves rock bottom by November, but the club stuck by the management team. Since then, togetherness was massive. Winning games helped with the confidence, and the fans were absolutely incredible, they backed us all the way, home and away, and we shared some really positive moments with them throughout the season. I was absolutely buzzing. First thing (when I found out) was I called home, I don't even know what time it was. They were probably asleep back home. I wouldn't have taken that chance (leaving Perth Glory) if I did think the ship had sailed. 'I knew I wanted to be professional, I knew I could be and it was a matter of taking it into my own hands, You learn lessons every single day. With promotion and relegation, it's do or die. You've got no excuses, no chances to slip up. It teaches you game management, all that side of things and then obviously you need to be a good player to survive as well, and a good player to progress.'

Marcus Rashford spotted 'double wristing' with half a million pound watches
As Marcus Rashford ponders his future, the Manchester United star enjoyed some downtime and wore two watches with an eye-watering value while sitting on a jetski in Saint-Tropez Football star Marcus Rashford showed off his style by 'double wristing' as he sported a mega-money watch on each arm. The trendy Manchester United star turned heads in a striking Louis Vuitton outfit in Saint-Tropez, but it wasn't just his clothes that caught the eye. As he soaked up the sun on the French Riviera, people were quick to notice he was sporting two timepieces said to be worth a combined £500,000. He looked smart with the flashy gold Rolex, with another from Patek Philippe - one of the oldest watch manufacturers in the world - sitting on his other wrist. Rashford, who spent the final five months of the Premier League season on loan at Aston Villa, has been enjoying a luxurious getaway with a group of friends and a mysterious blonde beauty. The England forward was seen holding what appeared to be a Snus tobacco pouch, a popular smokeless product among fellow footballers. His look was completed with Nike Ben & Jerry's x Dunk Low SB trainers but it wasn't long before they all came off as he cooled off. Taking a dip in the sea, the Old Trafford goal-getter zipped across the waves on a jet ski as he made the most of his downtime before the next big season. Let's hope his watches were super secure as he tested it out while fully clothed! Rashford has plenty to ponder on the get-away with his future up in the air. Could he be set for more sun in Spain? Barcelona continue to be linked with the star, who appears to be on his way out of United after another challenging season for player and for club. With the Premier League season now over, clubs have already begun plotting their moves for the summer transfer window. While there are always many different plots unfolding at the same time, few will have as much focus as the situation around Rashford - but where will he end up? The forward spent the second half of the campaign on loan at Villa after being banished to the Manchester United wilderness by Ruben Amorim. Overall, the United academy graduate made a good impression at Villa Park, contributing four goals and six assists across all competitions, which earned him a recall to the England squad. The forward's next chapter is currently unknown, but with Amorim showing no signs that he has changed his stance, it is expected the Old Trafford exit door will be propped open for Rashford. And after defeat to the Red Devils on the final weekend, the Villans failed to qualify for the Champions League. That would appear to kill any hope of Rashford being persuaded to sign permanently at Villa Park. Marking the end of his first spell away from United, Rashford nevertheless expressed his gratitude to the club. He said on social media: "Just a message of thanks to everyone here at Villa for what has (injury aside) been an incredible few months for me. "It is a really special club and I appreciated the way Villa fans embraced me with open arms from 1st minute on the pitch. Manager, team, and coaching staff have all been brilliant. I know it is a huge disappointment not to have made the Champions League place which everyone worked so hard all season for but I know this club and team will come back stronger."
