
IIT Delhi Launches First-of-its-Kind PG Diploma in Advanced Communication Engineering Integrating Quantum Networking and AI

New Delhi [India], May 28: In a landmark initiative set to redefine the future of telecommunications, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has announced the launch of its inaugural Online Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Communication Engineering with Quantum and AI Integration. Offered by the Bharti School of Telecommunication Technology and Management at IIT Delhi, this first-of-its-kind programme brings together three transformative technologies--Artificial Intelligence (AI), Quantum Networking and Advanced Wireless Communications--within a single, interdisciplinary curriculum.
Developed for professionals operating at the forefront of technological innovation, the twelve-month online programme provides deep technical expertise and hands-on experience. Learners will develop proficiency in machine learning applications for network optimisation, secure quantum communications and deployment of high-efficiency wireless networks using tools like MIMO systems, Software-Defined Radios (SDRs) and Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) protocols. Learners can expect to graduate with capabilities tailored to critical roles including Quantum Communication Engineers, AI & ML Specialists in Telecom, 5G/6G Network Engineers and Cybersecurity Experts specialising in quantum-safe infrastructures.
The global quantum communication market, currently valued at USD 1.10 billion, is projected to expand at a CAGR of 31.8% through to 2030, while the AI market is expected to reach USD 1.81 trillion by the same year. In India alone, roles linked to 5G and 6G are anticipated to grow by over 30% annually over the next five years. This programme directly addresses the growing skills gap in these high-demand sectors, combining rigorous academic foundations with real-world applications and lab-based experiential learning.
Speaking at the launch of its inaugural batch, Prof. Manav R. Bhatnagar, Programme Co-ordinator, Professor and Head, CEPQIP IIT Delhi said, "Learners will gain exposure to real-world case studies, ranging from quantum-secured networks to AI-enhanced spectrum efficiency. It is a truly unique opportunity to engage with frontier technologies that are shaping global communications."
Prof. Abhishek Dixit, Professor and Programme Co-ordinator, IIT Delhi added, "In an era where data integrity and secure communication are paramount, our curriculum ensures that learners gain not only conceptual understanding but also the technical prowess required to build resilient communication frameworks."
The curriculum spans 27 academic credits delivered across eight carefully curated courses, including core modules such as Introduction to Machine Learning, Communication Systems and Networking, MIMO Wireless Communications, Information Processing, etc. Learners also engage in an intensive 60-hour capstone project and benefit from a campus immersion experience at IIT Delhi. Sessions are delivered Live via Direct-to-Device (D2D) mode, supplemented with lab tutorials and collaborative projects under the guidance of IIT Delhi faculty and industry experts.
The programme is open to graduates from disciplines such as Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), Electrical Engineering (EE), Computer Science (CSE), Information Technology (IT), Data Science, Mathematics or Applied Physics, with requisite professional experience. Admissions are merit-based, involving a comprehensive review process. Participants will also gain affiliate alumni status from IIT Delhi, access to the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) and specialised career services.

Volvo Suspends U.S. Car Production Amid Parts Shortage
Volvo Cars has temporarily halted production at its Ridgeville, South Carolina, facility due to a parts shortage. The plant, which produces the EX90 electric vehicle, faced a short shutdown but was able to restart operations soon after fixing the issue. In this article, we will look at the details of the temporary suspension by Volvo. The pause in production was announced on Thursday, and work resumed by Saturday. Volvo explained that the shutdown was caused by a lack of certain components. The EX90 is built in the U.S. but depends on a global supply chain, with 20-25 percent of its parts coming from the U.S. or Canada, 30 percent from Mexico, and another 30 percent from China, while the transmission is made in Sweden. This situation highlights the difficulties automakers encounter with changing trade policies. The revised tariffs set by the U.S. president, Donald Trump, apply a 30 percent tariff on Chinese imports and a 25 percent tariff on foreign auto parts. This increase in tariffs has made supply chains more complicated and raised production costs. In response to these challenges, Volvo announced layoffs affecting approximately 125 employees at the Ridgeville plant, which represents roughly 5 percent of its workforce there. Globally, the company plans to cut 3,000 jobs, primarily in Sweden, as part of a broader cost-reduction strategy aimed at saving nearly 2 billion USD (approximately 16,000 INR). The United States is Volvo's second biggest car market, holding a 16 percent share, with China leading at 20 percent. Additionally, there are reports of a possible ban in the U.S. by 2027 on automakers owned by Chinese companies, which may affect Volvo's future in the U.S.

Asian Development Bank commits $10 billion plan for India's urban transformation
NEW DELHI: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has committed up to USD 10 billion for India's urban transformation, including metro extension in the next five years, ADB President Masato Kanda has said. "Cities are engines of will mobilize capital, accelerate delivery, and scale solutions that keep India's urban economy moving and people thriving on the road to Viksit Bharat by 2047," Kanda said after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Saturday. The transformation plan includes sovereign loans, private sector financing, and third-party capital, ADB said in a statement. The initiative is anchored by India's flagship Urban Challenge Fund (UCF), which ADB is supporting to attract private investment for urban infrastructure, it said. Analytical work on growth hubs, creative city redevelopment, and water and sanitation upgrades in 100 cities across India are laying the groundwork for the UCF. ADB is also committing USD 3 million in technical assistance to design bankable projects and strengthen the capacity of states and urban local bodies, it said. As per estimates, India's towns and cities are projected to house more than 40 per cent of the population by 2030. ADB has already worked with more than 110 cities across 22 states on water supply, sanitation, housing, and solid-waste management projects, and the active urban portfolio totals 27 loans worth USD 5.15 billion, it said. On urban transport, over the past decade, it said, ADB has committed USD 4 billion for metro projects and RRTS covering 300 kilometers in eight cities, including the Delhi-Meerut RRTS, Mumbai Metro, Nagpur Metro, Chennai Metro, and Bengaluru Metro, cutting congestion and emissions while widening access for vulnerable populations, including people with disabilities. ADB will also invest in skills development through the National Industrial Training Institute Upgradation Program to boost the manufacturing sector, catalyze private sector growth, and create quality jobs, especially for India's youth, it said. Kanda visited the ADB-supported Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor, India's first RRTS, and spoke with women whose livelihoods have improved through project-linked training, it said. Under ADB's country partnership strategy for India, 2023-2027, it stands ready to provide more than USD 5 billion in financing each year, including about USD 1 billion in nonsovereign operations to catalyze additional private investment. ADB began operations in India in 1986. As of April 2025, it has committed USD 59.5 billion in sovereign lending and USD 9.1 billion in non-sovereign investments, it said, adding, the active sovereign portfolio comprises 81 loans totalling USD 16.5 billion as of April 2025.
