King grants new Aga Khan title of ‘His Highness'
The King has granted the new Aga Khan the title 'His Highness', Buckingham Palace has announced.
Charles is continuing a long-standing royal tradition of bestowing the title on the spiritual leader of the world's millions of Ismaili Muslims.
Prince Rahim Al-Hussaini, 53, was named as the Aga Khan V following the death of his father Prince Karim Al-Hussaini, the Aga Khan IV, at the age of 88 last week.

The late Aga Khan was given the title of 'His Highness' by Queen Elizabeth II in July 1957, two weeks after his grandfather unexpectedly made him heir to the family's 1,300-year dynasty as leader of the Ismaili Muslim sect.
The King was left deeply saddened over the death of the late Aga Khan.
The billionaire philanthropist was a personal friend of both Charles and Queen Elizabeth II for many years.
He was also a leading owner and breeder of racehorses, sharing a passion for racing with the late Queen and helping her achieve one of her most enjoyable days at the races.
The Queen's filly Estimate, which claimed victory in Royal Ascot's 2013 Gold Cup – the first time in the race's 207-year history that it had been won by a reigning monarch, was an 80th birthday present from the late Aga Khan.
Buckingham Palace in a statement on the monarchy's official social media accounts said: 'To mark the accession of Prince Rahim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan as the fiftieth hereditary Imam of the Shi'a Ismaili Muslim community, and in accordance with long-standing tradition, it has pleased The King to grant the new Aga Khan the title 'His Highness'.

The Aga Khan is considered by his followers to be a direct descendant of the Prophet Muhammad and is treated as a head of state.
The late Aga Khan's funeral was held in Lisbon on Saturday, before a private burial ceremony in Aswan, Egypt, on Sunday.

It was a recent royal sighting that caught me off-guard: King Charles and Queen Camilla were spotted in attendance at a mid-May gala in Kew Gardens to help raise money for The Elephant Family, a charity set up by Mark Shand, Camilla's brother, before his death in 2014. But the Elephant Family event felt different and provided a moment for Charles's niece—who has long supported Elephant Family—to take center stage in a position typically reserved for more senior royals like Kate Middleton or Duchess Sophie. It's about monarch, Charles has long been an advocate of a slimmed-down monarchy—or, at the very least, the idea of keeping a core group of working royals in sight vs. past visuals of a Queen Elizabeth II-era Buckingham Palace balcony overflowing with extended family such as aunts and uncles and random royal relations that have less of an impact on the royal brand. While the king has never officially brought his framework into public view, that working model took a major hit when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle walked away from the monarchy in January 2020. Questions—and constructive criticisms, like the comments made by Charles's sister Princess Anne—began to swirl about the lack of main characters left to represent the Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie off the bench was a refrain I began to hear over and over again during my years co-hosting the Royally Obsessed podcast. That also brings me to my next point: Not only did Beatrice step out for the Elephant Family gala, we've been seeing a lot more of another lesser-known royal lately: Her sister, Princess Eugenie. Eugenie was recently announced as a mentor for the King's Foundation's 35 Under 35 initiative and the sisters, together, have been more vocal—and frankly, formal—about promoting royal patronages (like their joint role as honorary patrons of Teenage Cancer Trust). Heck, they've even been making more regular appearances at what I think of as signature events in the royal diary (everything from the Chelsea Flower Show to Buckingham Palace garden parties). Bottom line: Someone seems to have given King Charles a note that looping in Beatrice and Eugenie, who are 9th and 12th in line to the throne, more is good for royal business—and I'm thrilled to see it. After all, anything that has the potential to humanize the royal family makes sense. Beatrice opening up about the premature birth of her daughter Athena; Eugenie helping others and bringing attention to anyone navigating a scoliolis diagnosis—it's authentic and vulnerable, but most importantly, it brings people in. It was a major loss when Harry and Meghan left for Canada first, then Montecito. And, regardless of your feelings about the monarchy they left behind, their royal shoes can't be filled by William and Kate alone—there's simply too much royal work to go around. The move to include more of Beatrice and Eugenie not only lightens that load, it extends the glamour of the monarchy and lifts the spirits of royal supporters, too. While I thought this would be a decision relegated to when Prince William—who is close with his cousins and likely sees their potential—becomes king, it seems like Charles caught wind of it sooner. Sergiño Dest joins long list of USMNT stars to miss the Gold Cup
A U.S. men's national soccer team already missing several notable players for the Concacaf Gold Cup lost another key figure Thursday when Sergiño Dest was ruled out so he can continue his comeback from ACL surgery. The dynamic right back recovered from the injury this spring and resumed playing for Dutch club PSV Eindhoven. But after several days at U.S. training camp, Dest and the staff decided he was not ready for a long-term competition. 'We determined the best decision is for the player to have an individualized training program for the summer, so he can focus on being fully recovered and ready to perform next season,' Coach Mauricio Pochettino said in a statement. Dest is the sixth player from the camp roster to fall out of contention for the Gold Cup — the U.S. team's last tournament before the 2026 World Cup. Goalkeeper Zack Steffen, who was primed to compete for the starting job, withdrew Wednesday with a knee injury. Previously, goalkeeper Patrick Schulte, forward Folarin Balogun and defenders DeJuan Jones and Sean Zawadzki were scratched. Even before naming the camp roster May 22, Pochettino left off several players who were injured, requested time away following the European club seasons or are unavailable because of the Club World Cup this summer. That group included Christian Pulisic, Antonee Robinson, Weston McKennie, Tim Weah, Gio Reyna and Yunus Musah. On Thursday, Pochettino finalized his 26-man Gold Cup roster with 14 players who have made four or fewer U.S. appearances, including seven with none. Four players received their first invitations to U.S. camp: defender Alex Freeman, midfielders Quinn Sullivan and Sebastian Berhalter, and forward Damion Downs. The roster averages 16 international appearances. John Tolkin, a former New York Red Bulls standout now with Holstein Kiel in Germany, replaced Dest. 'Of course, our priority is to win the tournament and to show the right mentality and approach,' Pochettino said, 'and we are confident these players will take advantage of the opportunity.' The U.S. team will prepare for the Gold Cup with friendlies Saturday against Turkey in East Hartford, Connecticut, and Tuesday against Switzerland in Nashville. In the Gold Cup group stage, the Americans will play Trinidad & Tobago on June 15 in San Jose, Saudi Arabia on June 19 in Austin and Haiti on June 22 in Arlington, Texas. Mexico and Canada are the other tournament favorites. After the Gold Cup, the Americans' schedule will feature a series of friendlies in the fall and spring before Pochettino finalizes his World Cup roster.
