Amravati's Madhura Helps India Reach Quarterfinals of Archery World Cup Stage 3 In Antalya

Nagpur: For the second successive time in the Archery World Cup, Madhura Dhamangaonkar, a small-town girl from Amravati, will lead India's campaign. Exactly 25 days after she spearheaded India's medal success with three podium finishes in Shanghai, Madhura continued her impressive run in the Archery World Cup Stage 3, which began in Antalya, Turkey, on Wednesday. At the second stage of the World Cup in Shanghai last month, Madhura helped India's compound archers achieve their highest medal count when she secured individual women's gold, women's team silver, and mixed team bronze medals. Continuing from where she left off in Shanghai, the 24-year-old Madhura finished fourth in the compound qualification round at Antalya to guide the Indian women's team to the quarterfinals. Thanks to Madhura's heroics, the Indian team secured the third seeding and a direct entry to the quarterfinals, where they will face the winner of Kazakhstan and Great Britain. If India crosses the quarterfinal hurdle, they will face the challenge of second-seeded and experienced Korea in the semifinals. In the qualification round, Madhura gave an impressive score of 600 to finish fourth, just three points behind South Korean legend Han Seungyeon (603). The trio of Indian women team members amassed a total of 1777 points to earn the third seeding. In the men's compound event, Haryana's Rishabh Yadav was the best finisher for India. While Yadav finished the qualification round in the 13th position, experienced Abhishek Verma and Nagpur's world compound archery champion Ojas Deotale registered a lowly 29th and 34th spots respectively. In the mixed compound team, Yadav will pair up with Madhura, and India will start their campaign in the second round as the fifth seeds.

French firm Thales opens in-flight entertainment lab in Bengaluru

Thales, a French aerospace and defence firm, has opened an in-flight entertainment and services lab in Bengaluru. Opening the lab marked a significant step towards enhancing both the passenger experience and operational efficiency of carriers globally, said Olivier Flous, senior vice-president, Engineering & Digital Transformation, Thales, here on Wednesday. The new lab, opened at its existing Engineering Competence Centre in the city, will be dedicated to the development of in-flight entertainment (IFE) solutions and advanced tools for support and services to airlines, reinforcing India's strategic position as an innovation hub for Thales. 'Our engineers at Thales in India will design, develop, and test innovative solutions to support the needs of Indian airlines and global customers,' officials at Thales said. According to the company, aligned with the vision of 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat', this lab will serve as a hub for the design, development, and testing of next-generation IFE systems. The lab would be equipped with advanced tools to support and serve airlines in India and around the world. Mr. Flous said this new facility underscored Thales' commitment towards developing future-ready aviation technologies in India, for India, and for the world. 'We look forward to continuing to leverage our global technological expertise and India's vast talent pool to foster a robust local civil aviation ecosystem.' Speaking on the occasion, Marc Lamy, Consul General of France in Bengaluru, said, the inauguration of this inflight entertainment and services lab was a moment of immense pride, reflecting the vibrant spirit of innovation and partnership that defines both nations, France and India. 'This perfectly embodies the spirit of the upcoming year 2026 designated by President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the 'Indo-French Year of Innovation',' he added. State's Industries Minister M.B. Patil said, Thales has been contributing significantly towards the growth of aerospace, defence, and cybersecurity and digital identity in Bengaluru and in India for years. 'Their Engineering Competence Centre has become an integral part of the local industry. Many congratulations to the Thales team for this significant milestone that will strengthen the aviation sector not just within Karnataka, but across the nation,' said Mr. Patil.

Aviation soars, but profits still on the ground

India's aviation sector is expanding rapidly, but overall profitability remains elusive—not just for Indian carriers, but globally as well, said Marie Owens Thomsen , chief economist, International Air Transport Association (IATA). IATA's latest outlook projects the global airline industry will earn just $7.2 per passenger in 2025, a slight improvement from $6.8 in 2024. West Asia leads with $27.2, followed by North America at $11.1, and Europe at $8.9. Asia Pacific, where India belongs, trails with a forecast of only $2.6 per passenger. While India-specific figures weren't shared, Thomsen said the country likely sits below the regional average due to high costs and competitive pricing. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Villas In Dubai | Search Ads Get Rates Undo
