3 booked under NDPS Act in separate cases
Udupi: Three persons were booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in separate cases reported from Kundapur and Kaup in Udupi district. The accused were identified as Mohammad Ajwan, 23, Mohammad Shafiq, 18, and Anil, 23. On Saturday, Dharmendra, ASI of Kundapur police station, was on duty near Shastri Circle in Vadderhobli village, Kundapur taluk, when he noticed a man behaving suspiciously. The man, identified as Mohammad Ajwan, was taken into custody and subjected to a medical examination at Kundapur Govt Hospital. The medical officer confirmed that he consumed narcotic substances. A case was registered under Section 27(b) of the NDPS Act. In another incident the same day, ASI Dharmendra noticed another individual, later identified as Mohammad Shafiq, loitering in an intoxicated state near Parijata Circle in Kasaba village. He was similarly detained and taken for a medical examination, which confirmed drug consumption. A case was filed under the same section of the NDPS Act. In a separate case reported from Kaup taluk, Tejaswi TI, sub-inspector of Kaup police station, received information on Friday about a youth allegedly consuming ganja near the Narayana Guru Sabha Bhavan in Muluru village. The youth, identified as Anil, who was found under the influence of drugs, was taken to the forensic medicine department at KMC Hospital, Manipal. The forensic report on Saturday confirmed ganja consumption. Based on this, a case was registered at Kaup police station under Section 27(b) of the NDPS Act.

Police conduct special drive against tinted glasses, counselling given to drivers
The Satyanarayanapuram III traffic police conducted an awareness and enforcement drive on Sunday targeting the illegal use of tinted glasses (black glasses) on four-wheelers. The operation, led by CI K. Kishore Babu, was carried out along BRTS Road. Vehicles with tinted glasses were stopped and inspected. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) A.V.L. Prasanna Kumar said: 'During the special drive, the police removed the tinted glasses and gave counselling to the drivers. Challans were issued under the Motor Vehicle (MV) Act.'

Man abducts, rapes 15-yr-old girl with promise of marriage
Rajkot: A 15-year-old girl studying at a boarding school in Junagadh was allegedly abducted and raped by a man from Botad, who lured her with a promise of marriage. The accused, originally from Derala village in Botad and currently residing in Surat, is absconding. The incident came to light after the girl's 65-year-old grandmother filed a complaint at the Junagadh City B Division police station. The accused has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. According to the complaint, the girl had been living in a hostel run by an NGO for the past three years due to the family's financial difficulties. Her grandmother became her guardian after the death of the girl's father in 2019 and her mother's subsequent elopement. Earlier this year, the grandmother's daughter suggested arranging the girl's marriage and introduced her to the accused in Feb. Despite objections, the girl stayed in contact with him and reportedly visited him in April. On May 28, the girl went missing while accompanying her grandmother to a medical store. She was later found and disclosed her intimate relationship with the accused, who had promised to marry her. Investigation officer Aniruddhsinh Gohil confirmed that efforts are underway to trace the accused. "Multiple police teams have been formed to locate and apprehend the accused," he said.
