Arab Times22-05-2025

KUWAIT CITY, May 22: Kuwait Municipality has launched a series of field inspection campaigns in Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governorate to enforce regulations prohibiting the operation of charitable societies within private and model residential areas.
Head of the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Municipality team, Abdulwahab Al-Ameeri, told KUNA that municipal field teams have recently identified and issued warnings to 15 charitable societies and organizations found operating in violation of zoning regulations.
'Today's inspection tour covered the areas of Sabah Al-Salem, Al-Qurain, Al-Fintas, and the coastal strip to confirm that all previously warned premises had been vacated,' Al-Ameeri stated, adding that the team had verified compliance in those areas.
He praised the swift cooperation of charity operators in vacating the properties following the warnings, and noted that the teams are also addressing other violations, including unauthorized outdoor advertisements and iron mesh installations on some residences.
Al-Ameeri emphasized that the inspection teams have adopted a strict approach from the outset of the campaign and will continue to enforce all legal measures against violators of Kuwait Municipality's regulations.
The campaign is in line with Ministerial Resolution No. 206/2009, which prohibits the use of buildings in private and model residential zones for purposes other than private housing. The municipality's enforcement actions aim to implement this regulation by ensuring that all branches of charitable organizations are removed from such residential areas.

While victory is essential, it won't be enough for Kuwait to maintain hopes of reaching the Asian play-off stage. The team must also defeat South Korea in the final round next Tuesday in Seoul, and hope Oman loses both of its remaining matches. Currently, Kuwait sits at the bottom of the group standings with 5 points, behind South Korea (16), Jordan (13), Iraq (12), Oman (10), and Palestine (6). Head coach Juan Antonio Pizzi has included 26 players in the squad for tonight's match. Two Commerce Ministry employees sentenced to 10 years for bribery, abuse of power

KUWAIT CITY, June 4: The Criminal Court, presided over by Counselor Abdulwahab Al-Maili, sentenced two employees of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry—a supervisor and a transaction coordinator—to 10 years in prison each. In addition, they were fined 400,000 Kuwaiti dinars and dismissed from their positions. The court found them guilty of abusing their authority, accepting bribes to overlook commercial violations, and fabricating false violations. Meanwhile, the court exempted a resident from punishment after he confessed to involvement with the defendants. The Ministry of Interior had earlier announced the arrest of the two ministry employees and their accomplice on charges of exploiting their positions, accepting bribes to ignore commercial violations, and fabricating false ones. According to a press release by the General Department of Public Relations and Security Media, law enforcement received intelligence regarding individuals exploiting their roles to accept bribes. After securing legal approval, the suspects were caught red-handed receiving 50,000 Kuwaiti dinars out of an agreed total bribe of 200,000 dinars. The operation, conducted in cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, is part of ongoing security efforts to combat corruption and enhance public safety. Authorities emphasized that the suspects have been referred to competent legal bodies for prosecution. Security officials stressed that the law applies equally to all, with no exceptions, and reaffirmed their commitment to pursuing anyone who threatens national security.
