Rafizi, Nik Nazmi's Resignation A Principled Move, Deserves Respect
KUALA LUMPUR, May 28 (Bernama) -- The decision by Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad to resign from the Cabinet is a principled move that must be respected, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
He said both Rafizi and Nik Nazmi had made effective contributions and supported all government decisions.
'They (Rafizi and Nik Nazmi) are principled. That was their promise (to resign if they lost in the PKR election) and we respect that stance.
'Although we do not interfere in a party's internal matters, on behalf of our colleagues in the Cabinet, I feel that they have made significant contributions and collectively supported all Cabinet decisions,' he said.
Ahmad Zahid was speaking to reporters after attending the recording of the Desaku Mendunia Concert and the Pre-Launch Ceremony of the 3D Mega Carnival at Angkasapuri here tonight.
Ahmad Zahid said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has the sole authority to appoint successors from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) to fill the vacancies.
'Leaders come and go, and so do ministers. The Prime Minister will select the best individuals from the party to serve in the Cabinet,' he added.
Earlier today, Rafizi and Nik Nazmi announced their resignations from the Cabinet effective June 17 and July 4 respectively, following their defeats in the 2025 PKR party elections held last week.
Rafizi failed to retain his position as PKR Deputy President after losing to Nurul Izzah Anwar, while Nik Nazmi lost in the contest for a Vice President post.

The meeting was chaired by the Russian Federation's Minister of Foreign Affairs, S.V. Lavrov. According to Shamsul Anuar, Malaysia is proud of the progress on the Comprehensive Plan of Action for the ASEAN-Russia Strategic Partnership (2026–2030), which he believes would help both sides work more closely in important areas. 'We support the SOMTC + Russia Work Plan (2025–2028) to fight transnational crimes such as human trafficking, migrant smuggling, and cybercrime. We hope this plan can be finalised soon and officially agreed upon,' he said. He added that Malaysia also stressed the need for better coordination and information sharing between ASEAN and its partners to handle new security threats, including terrorism, cyber threats, and other transnational crimes. 'The 25th ASEAN SOMTC will be held in Malaysia from June 23 to 27, 2025. We look forward to welcoming all members and partners, including Russia, to Putrajaya. We are also hosting the 17th SOMTC + Russia Consultation on June 25, 2025, to strengthen our joint efforts against transnational crime.

UNRWA Urges Immediate Access to Gaza as Aid Supplies Sit Idle in Jordan
ANKARA, May 30 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- The UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) sounded the alarm on Friday over the continued obstruction of humanitarian aid to Gaza as essential supplies remain stockpiled in nearby Jordan, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported. 'In the UNRWA warehouse in (Jordanian capital) Amman, just a three-hour drive from Gaza, we have enough supplies to sustain over 200,000 people for an entire month,' the agency said. 'Flour, food parcels, hygiene kits, blankets, and medical supplies are ready to be delivered. Gaza needs aid at scale,' said UNRWA, stressing that 'an unhindered, uninterrupted flow of supplies must be allowed in.'
