Diddy's ex-assistant says rapper wanted to kill Kid Cudi over Cassie relationship
U.S. government prosecutors returned from the holiday weekend and pressed forward in their racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking case against Diddy today. They called to the witness stand a former employee of the rapper who portrayed him as a ruthless and volatile kingpin bent on controlling the people around him with violence and threats. The highlights:
Capricorn Clark, an aide to Diddy for years, described her harrowing experience working for him. She told jurors he threatened to kill her, subjected her to days of lie detector tests, shoved her at his Miami home in 2006 asked her to buy drugs and kicked his off-and-on girlfriend Cassie Ventura with '100% full force' in 2011.
Clark recalled Diddy's rage at Scott Mescudi (better known as rapper Kid Cudi) after learning he was dating Cassie. Clark said Diddy banged on her door one morning in December 2011 and, gun in hand, forced her to join him for a confrontation: 'Get dressed,' Clark said Diddy told her. 'We're going to go kill Mescudi.'
Clark testified that she took Cassie to Best Buy to purchase a burner cell phone she could use to communicate with Kid Cudi. The ex-assistant explained to jurors that she was concerned Cassie was sending text messages on a phone paid for by Diddy. Clark said she worried the relationship between Cassie and Kid Cudi was 'going to get us all killed.'
Clark painted an emotionally wrenching and at times disturbing picture of her tenure as one of Diddy's employees. In riveting detail, she recounted the sense of danger and fear she felt, portraying her former boss as an erratic and menacing figure who was prone to violence.
She repeatedly broke down in tears, including as she recalled Diddy lunging at her and shoving her at his Miami home nearly 20 years ago. She gestured with her hands to show jurors how he allegedly pushed her. The incident was 'crossing my boundary,' Clark said through tears.
She sobbed again during defense lawyer Marc Agnifilo's cross-examination, acknowledging she worked hard for Diddy because he was 'tenacious,' broke glass ceilings and 'matched wits' with people. Clark worked for him in two different stints, most recently from 2016 to 2018.
Clark at one point apologized to Judge Arun Subramanian for crying. You don't have to apologize, he replied.
Diddy, wearing a blue sweater, seemed fully engaged during Clark's testimony, leaning forward in his seat and frequently passing notes to his lawyers. He stared intently at Clark nearly the entire time she answered questions.
In other news: Maurene Comey, the lead prosecutor, told Subramanian that the government's case is moving ahead of schedule. She predicted the prosecution would rest after five weeks — rather than six, as originally planned.
Tomorrow: Prosecutors are expected to call members of the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Lawyers for Sean "Diddy" Combs are again asking the judge overseeing his sex trafficking trial to declare a mistrial based on alleged prosecutorial misconduct. In a letter filed on Saturday, defense attorney Alexandra Shapiro alleged that federal prosecutors presented "demonstrably false" evidence related to the allegation that Combs dangled Bryana Bongolan -- a longtime friend of Combs' ex-girlfriend and star witness Cassie Ventura -- off a 17th floor apartment balcony in Los Angeles in 2016. Combs' lawyers are accusing Bongolan of perjury. While Bongolan testified that she was able to document her injuries from the attack on September 26, defense attorneys showed the jury hotel receipts to prove that Combs was in New York between Sept. 24 and 29, 2016. After being shown the hotel records placing Combs in New York around the time of the incident, Bongolan stood by her allegations, and prosecutors argued that the incident could have happened before Sept. 24. They argued that the episode of unexplained violence suggested to the jury that the rap mogul was "an angry and dangerous man who terrified Ms. Ventura and her friends." Defense lawyers last month unsuccessfully pushed for a mistrial after prosecutors tried to ask about the destruction of fingerprint evidence related to the arson investigation into Scott Mescudi's torched sports car. Prosecutors allege that Combs coordinated the firebombing of the car after Medscudi – known professionally as the rapper Kid Cudi – began dating Ventura. Defense attorneys argued that the line of questioning could suggest that Combs improperly tampered with the investigation into the arson, but Judge Arun Subramanian immediately denied the request. In Saturday's letter, defense attorneys also argued that prosecutors continued their "improper line of questioning" by asking Combs' former assistant how she was able to avoid speeding tickets by mentioning his name. Testifying under the pseudonym "Mia," the woman is a former assistant of Combs who has accused the mogul of sexual assault. "It became apparent shortly thereafter, during the questioning of Mia the very next day, that in fact the government's motive all along must have been to suggest that Mr. Combs had corrupt influence over the LA authorities when it tried to create the impression that he was responsible for the destruction of the fingerprints," defense lawyers argued. Combs is charged with racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and prostitution. His trial is scheduled to enter its fifth week of testimony on Monday. Combs has pleaded not guilty to all counts. If convicted, he faces the possibility of life in prison. Prosecutors have not yet responded to Saturday's request for a mistrial. They are expected to file a response ahead of court on Monday.

Bryana Bongolan's Alleged Injury Photos From Diddy Balcony Incident Filed As Evidence
Diddy faced accusations of dangling a woman off a balcony during his trial this week ... with the prosecution entering photos of her alleged injuries -- though the defense countered the claims. Bryana Bongolan -- a fashion designer and friend of Cassie's -- testified that Diddy stormed into Cassie's apartment one night. While Bongolan was out on the balcony, either smoking a blunt or about to, she says Diddy grabbed her and held her over the balcony. She alleges he screamed ... "You know what the f*** you did" at her before she says he pulled her back onto the balcony and slammed her into some furniture. Bongolan testified that she suffered a leg injury and neck issues after Diddy allegedly attacked her ... and, the prosecution presented photos of these alleged injuries -- a large bruise and hole in Bongolan's leg as well as patches on her neck and back. However, the prosecution says these photos have metadata that indicates they were taken on September 26, 2016. Diddy's team fought back against the date -- pointing out he was on the East Coast on the "Bad Boy Family Reunion" tour at the time and couldn't have been in L.A. where Bongolan says the incident went down. Prosecutors later pointed to texts Cassie sent to Kristina Khorram -- Diddy's employee often referred to as his chief of staff -- which indicate the alleged assault may have happened a few days after the photos were taken. Bongolan had trouble remembering key details of the alleged incident in her recounts ... changing what she was smoking on the balcony and saying she couldn't recall quite a bit during her retelling of it. So, it's unclear how exactly Bryana sustained the injuries in these photos ... but, they certainly led to some fireworks in court.
