Landman creator Taylor Sheridan to receive honorary degree during TCU commencement
Among college graduates at Texas Christian University this weekend, Fort Worth native and Yellowstone co-creator Taylor Sheridan will be receiving an honorary Doctor of Letters degree.
TCU said the honorary degree will be given to Sheridan during commencement on May 9 and is recognizing his significant contributions to the arts, the Texas film industry, the greater Fort Worth community and TCU.
"Storytelling is about knowing where you come from and daring to imagine where you can go," Sheridan said. "TCU students already have the drive, discipline and vision it takes to lead — all they need is the opportunity to step into their own story and own it."
Sheridan, a Paschal High School grad, filmed the first season of Paramount+ show Landman on campus with students.
While filming, Sheridan pulled 36 students from the university's Film, Television and Digital Media program, 13 Track & Field student-athletes and six theatre students. According to TCU, those students worked alongside industry professionals across departments such as camera, sound, locations, set decoration, costumes, props and production assistance.
In addition to those students, over 600 TCU students, faculty, staff and alumni also participated as paid or volunteer extras.
TCU said 36 FTDM students and over 300 TCU extras were also in a recent unnamed filming project.
According to K12 Academics, a Doctor of Letters degree is a university academic degree, often a higher doctorate which is frequently awarded as an honorary degree in recognition of outstanding scholarship or other merits. It is often an honorary degree conferred on those who have contributed to the humanities and/or society.

Samuel L. Jackson might grab a Tulsa King spin-off
It's starting to look—by effect, if not necessarily intent—that Taylor Sheridan's Whole Thing has been an ongoing effort to make a TV show with every single major American actor over a certain age. This thought brought to you by a report that Samuel L. Jackson is reportedly eying a starring role in a spin-off of the Sheridan-produced Tulsa King. Per THR, Jackson would enter the Tulsaverse (King Cinematic Universe?) through traditional TV methods: A guest star role on the third season of the Sylvester Stallone-starring Paramount+ show, followed by his own spin-off. And why not? Between Tulsa King and Yellowstone, Sheridan has filled his TV Rolodex with many of film's biggest names, starting with Kevin Costner, and then branching out to include Stallone, Harrison Ford, Donald Sutherland, Dianne Wiest, Billy Bob Thornton, Sam Elliott, and many more. (And that's just the stuff that's already come out: The man continually churns out new shows with a machine-like pace that really belies his love of horses and the open range.) Jackson, specifically, would be signing on for NOLA King, set (obviously) in New Orleans. If we had to guess from Sheridan's whole MO, he'll be playing some kind of extremely tough older man with ties to crime who nevertheless lives by a personal code of honor that is, dare we say, in many ways a more robust system of conduct than any of the pathetic laws of the nation in which we live. But this is only speculation! He might also turn out to have a love interest 30 years his junior, too. NOLA King is being written and showrun by Dave Erickson, who also currently handles showrunning duties on Sheridan's Mayor Of Kingstown. If Jackson ends up signing on for the show—and Deadline has pretty much confirmed it at this point—it'd be a rare turn to TV for the actor; his previous, rare television roles include some mandatory Marvel duties, Peacock's Fight Night, and his Apple TV+ series The Last Days Of Ptolemy Grey. "Yellowstone" creator Taylor Sheridan buys this renowned restaurant in Fort Worth Stockyards
A renowned restaurant in the heart of the historic Fort Worth Stockyard is under new ownership – and one person at the head is "Yellowstone" creator Taylor Sheridan. Sheridan, along with his business partners David Glasser and Dan Schryer, recently purchased Cattlemen's Steak House, the group announced Wednesday. Cattlemen's is currently under a multi-million-dollar renovation, which is nearing completion. The plans include enhancing the food and wine offering, adding new dining, a bar, event spaces and an outdoor patio with a live music stage. Sheridan, who, apart from Hollywood, is a native Texan, rancher and cattleman. His Four Sixes Ranch has been providing USDA grade beef to Cattlemen's Steak House, the Bowie House, Auberge Resorts Collection in Fort Worth and SW Steakhouse. He promises to keep the essence of the menu and the preserved time-honored concept guests love. "Fort Worth is a vital city to both our state and our nation. It is where the West begins and where the cattle business was born. It is deserving of a gathering place for those who both shaped this city's past and guide its future — where friendships can be fostered and formed, and the very best of this city can be celebrated," Sheridan said the news release. Sheridan and his partners are also adding an element called "Cattlemen's Club," which will be a members-only dining and social club with a 130-person seating capacity. It will open summer of 2025. Designer Tyler Duncan, of Duncan Design Group in Grapevine, said the club will pay homage to "everything cowboy." The Cattlemen's Club memberships will be priced at $3,000, with a one-time initiation fee of $1,000, according to the news release. Cattlemen's was created in 1947 by Jesse and Mozella Roach and has remained in the Stockyards for over 75 years. Current owners, Marti Taylor and Larry Heppe, will remain as part-owners in the restaurant. Sheridan continues to invest in North Texas This is just the latest investment by Sheridan in the Fort Worth community. Sheridan, who not only helped create "Yellowstone", has also created several other popular series for Paramount, shot extensively in the city. Recently, Sheridan's other original series, "Landman," filmed parts of its second season in Downtown Fort Worth. And among college graduates at Texas Christian University, Sheridan received an honorary Doctor of Letters degree. Sheridan's commitment to the arts, Texas film industry and business has made an economic boon for North Texas.
