Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Posts Strong Margin Expansion and Operating Profit for FY2025 from Brand Transformation Success

Results Highlights
HONG KONG, HK / ACCESS Newswire / June 12, 2025 / Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group Limited ('Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group', the 'Group' or the 'Company"; SEHK stock code:1929), today announces its annual results for the year ended 31 March 2025 ('FY2025").
Strong Operating Profit and Margin Expansion Underscores Financial Resilience
The Group demonstrated financial resilience and strategically navigated the evolving market landscape by embarking on its brand transformation in FY2025. While macro-economic externalities and elevated gold prices weighed on the consumer sentiment and consequently jewellery spending during the financial year and led to a 17.5% decline in the Group's revenue, it was able to chart steady progress towards enhancing brand desirability and earnings quality.
The Group's gross profit margin expanded by 550 basis points to 29.5%, mainly attributable to the improved like-for-like margin at retail level resulting from the gold price surge, as well as an improvement in the product mix particularly with the higher contribution of our fixed-price gold products. The operating profit margin also expanded by 400 basis points to 16.4%, while operating profit delivered a year-on-year growth of 9.8%, reaching HK$14,746 million.
Profit attributable to shareholders decreased 9.0% in FY2025 to HK$5,916 million, as the increase in operating profit was offset by the loss arising from the revaluation of gold loan contracts amid volatility in gold prices during the financial year. Earnings per share was HK$0.59. The Board has proposed a final dividend of HK$0.32 per share, bringing the dividend per share for the year to HK$0.52. The full year payout ratio in FY2025 was approximately 87.8%.
Dr. Henry Cheng, Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group Chairman, said, 'At Chow Tai Fook Jewellery, we are making great strides in our brand transformation journey. We remain determined to satisfy evolving customer demand while seizing the emerging opportunities across China and other markets. As the leading Chinese jeweller, we maintain our strong commitment to carrying forth our legacy of bold innovation, masterful craftsmanship, and proud cultural heritage.'
New Image Stores Enhances Brand Desirability and Store Productivity
As an integral part of its brand transformation, the Group is reshaping the jewellery shopping experience with the launch of five new image stores in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Wuhan and Xi'an. The new premium store format elevated Chow Tai Fook Jewellery's brand desirability and provided an improved product mix, resulting in higher store productivity compared to the average store in the first few months since opening.
As we continue to progress our five strategic priorities and take a proactive approach to evolving market trends, same store performance in Mainland China improved quarter by quarter in FY2025, while Hong Kong and Macau saw a stabilisation in performance towards the end of the financial year.
SSS in the Mainland declined by 19.4% in FY2025. Separately, sales of franchised POS calculated on a same-store basis dropped 13.9% during the financial year, signifying a stronger performance than self-operated stores due to a higher proportion of newer stores. In Hong Kong and Macau, SSS was down by 26.1% in the financial year. SSS in Hong Kong dropped 23.1% while in Macau it fell 35.3%, as Macau's business had higher reliance on the spending of Mainland tourists.
Product Optimisation to Resonate with Target Customers
The Group continued its product optimisation efforts and offered products with different value propositions to meet customer preferences and create emotional resonance. Notably, revenue from fixed-price gold products surged by 105.5% year-on-year and itsRSV mix within the Mainland gold jewellery and product category expanded significantly to 19.2% from 7.1% the same period last year.
The Group's new iconic fixed price collections, CTF Rouge Collection and Chow Tai Fook Palace Museum Collection, have sustained strong momentum since launch and each achieved sales of approximately HK$4 billion in this financial year, exceeding the annual targets.
During the financial year, the Group further tapped into the 'Intellectual Properties ('IPs') Derivative Economy', driven by Gen Z consumers, by strengthening its portfolio of high-profile collaborations with brands such as Black Myth: Wukong and Chiikawa, in response to the younger generation's pursuit of emotional value.
Demonstrating its commitment to diversification and capturing emerging consumer trends, the Group also unveiled the exclusive CTF Pet Jewellery in March 2025, the first of its kind from a Chinese jeweller. The meaningful and innovative products tap into the booming pet economy, which has experienced significant growth in recent years.
Leveraging Online Channels to Deepen Customer Engagement
During the financial year, the Group significantly enhanced customer engagement and achieved fruitful results in e-commerce development in both Mainland China and Hong Kong.
In the Mainland, by leveraging the resources of its newly established in-house livestreaming studio and Key Opinion Sales ('KOS'), the Group expanded its reach and created viral bestsellers across multiple social media platforms, further amplifying brand visibility and consumer connection online. E-commerce contributed 5.8% in RSV and 13.8% in volume to its Mainland performance during FY2025. Furthermore, during Double 11 in 2024, the Group secured the No.1 position in livestreaming jewellery sales on the Tmall platform, helping to amplify the Group's reach, particularly to young customers.
In Hong Kong and Macau, the e-commerce channel complemented and further enhanced the omni-channel shopping experience. E-commerce sales grew by approximately 91% in this market segment in FY2025, driven by the customers' positive reception to the revamped brand website and successful launch of key IP collections.
Optimising Point of Sales ('POS') Network to Maximise Store Productivity
POS optimisation is crucial to the Group's strategy for sustaining market leadership, while enhancing the overall financial health and resilience of its retail network by maximising store productivity. In FY2025, the Group's POS optimisation strategy proved effective, resulting in improved store productivity.
In Mainland China, the Group remained agile and strategic in optimising its retail network by adopting a highly selective approach to opening stores in prime locations. The new stores opened during the year delivered more than double the average productivity of those closed. In addition, the progressive and healthy ramp-up of newer stores during the financial year strengthened the resilience and stability of the Group's store network. As of 31 March 2025, the Group maintained its leading position with a network of 6,274 CHOW TAI FOOK JEWELLERY POS in Mainland China, .
The retail network in Hong Kong and Macau was maintained at 87 CHOW TAI FOOK JEWELLERY POS, positioning the Group favourably to drive quality earnings growth. In other markets, we optimised the store locations during the year. We opened a net of 3 CHOW TAI FOOK JEWELLERY POS (excluding China duty free) in Thailand, Malaysia and Japan.
Business Outlook
Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group is encouraged by the continued progress in its brand transformation strategy and the positive impact on the Group's financial and operational performance in FY2025 and in FY2026 to date. Building on this momentum, the Group's strategic initiatives, together with the relatively lower comparables, shall further support its business fundamentals and recovery trajectory, making FY2026 a year set for quality growth
Amidst the external volatility and uncertainty, the Group is closely examining government policies and initiatives to boost consumption, tracking gold price movements and assessing the operating landscape in countries earmarked for international expansion to inform its business decisions.
Looking ahead, the Group will continue to rigorously uphold its financial discipline in cost and capital management to achieve high earnings quality. The Group's unwavering commitment to brand transformation will sharpen its competitiveness, bolster long-term growth prospects, and increase total shareholder returns sustainably.

The most-anticipated Bay Area restaurants opening this summer

After several years of post-pandemic recovery in fits and starts, there's an energy in the air in the Bay Area food world. Just look at what's slated to open this summer, which starts June 20. A modern Cantonese restaurant whose chef wants to push the envelope when it comes to Chinese food. Spinoffs from Michelin-starred restaurants, including a bakery and a gelato shop. Restaurants specializing in fresh soba noodles, heritage breed chickens, Cantonese barbecue and hyper-regional French cuisine. Plus, this summer brings second outposts of two daytime San Francisco favorites — Asian-American bakery Breadbelly and bagel shop Schlok's — and a new seafood market from acclaimed restaurant Nopa. And on the Peninsula, an exciting Korean-Taiwanese restaurant is opening its doors. Bar Chisme Late night eats from Chisme chef Manuel Bonilla, whose popup at Oakland's Low Bar ranked among the best new restaurants of 2024, are making a comeback. Bar Chisme is taking over the former Kon-Tiki space with a no-frills approach and dishes mashing up Salvadoran and Filipino flavors. Expect two types of burgers and a cozy, homey vibe space with an eclectic twist Bonilla envisions as 'Abuelita's house on acid.' — Mario Cortez Café Vivant There's nothing else quite like Café Vivant in the Bay Area: a restaurant devoted wholly to heritage chickens raised exclusively for the restaurant on a coastal farm in Pescadero. Arriving in Menlo Park late July, it will be the first restaurant from Jason Jacobeit and Daniel Jung, two sommeliers who run Somm Cellars, a rare wine retailer in New York City. They've partnered with farmer Rob James, whose sought-after poultry are served at many top Bay Area restaurants, and longtime chef Jared Wentworth, who's worked at Michelin-star restaurants in Chicago. They'll also open an outpost of Somm Cellars next door, with retail bottles, tastings, a market, coffee and its own food menu. — E.K. Projected opening: late July Gelateria di Cotogna One of the delights of eating at San Francisco's Cotogna has long been the abundant gelato cart that roamed the Italian restaurant's dining room. Soon, the housemade gelato will have its own home: a shop a few blocks away. Jennifer Felton, executive pastry chef for Cotogna, Quince and Verjus, is behind the gelato program. Expect flavors from vanilla honeycomb and chocolate stracciatella to seasonal creations like aprium (an apricot-plum hybrid fruit) or strawberries grown on the restaurant's private farm. Until the gelateria opens, catch an ice cream cart parked outside Cotogna Thursday-Saturday, noon to 4:30 p.m. — E.K. Projected opening: late summer The Happy Crane Given his fine-dining background, you might expect chef James Yeun Leong Parry to devote his upcoming Cantonese restaurant, the Happy Crane, to inventive reinterpretations of classic dishes. He will. But Leong Parry also wants to perfect those classics, like Peking duck and char siu. The chef, who previously worked at the three-Michelin-star Benu in San Francisco as well as Michelin-starred restaurants in Hong Kong, became known at his popup of the same name for dishes that meld his half-Chinese identity and culinary expertise, like char siu made with pork jowl smoked with compressed apple and fennel. Expect the same creativity at the Hayes Valley restaurant, on a prominent corner with floor-to-ceiling glass walls. — E.K. Projected opening: August La Cigale La Cigale, an ambitious, regional French restaurant from a veteran chef, will arrive in San Francisco's Glen Park neighborhood this summer. Joseph Magidow, who previously worked at top San Francisco restaurants including the Delfina, Locanda and the now-closed Tawla, will channel the cuisine of the Occitania region in southwestern France. Every dish will be cooked on a wood-burning hearth in the center of the restaurant, and served by Magidow from behind a 15-seat chef's counter. — E.K. Projected opening: summer 679 Chenery St., San Francisco. Parachute A bakery with Michelin-star cred is headed to San Francisco's Ferry Building. Parachute comes from the team behind fine-dining restaurant Sorrel, which has held a star since 2019. It will be devoted to laminated pastries that highlight seasonal produce from the famed farmers market located steps outside its front doors, plus coffee and other confections. Executive pastry chef Nasir Zainulabadin, formerly of Sorrel and the two-Michelin-star Saison, will oversee Parachute. The owners will open Parachute in the former Slanted Door space along with Arquet, a full-service restaurant focused on Californian cuisine and wood-fired cooking coming later this year. — E.K. Projected opening: July 1 Ferry Building, Suite 5, San Francisco. Quack House After moving out of Chinatown last year, the family behind storied Cantonese barbecue shop Hing Lung will soon reopen at its relocated, and rebranded main shop. Going by Quack House, expect the same expertly roasted ducks and racks of pork ribs from brothers Eric and Simon Cheung. Also making a comeback are duck liver sausages, Chinese bacon and traditional Hong Kong-style rice plates. The new operation complements the siblings' other project, Cantonese barbecue restaurant Go Duck Yourself, but in a return to Hing Lung's origins, Quack House will offer birds and pork chopped up and served by the pound. — M.C. Projected opening: late summer 927 Post St., San Francisco. Stereo 41 A former PG&E customer service office is shaping up as the place to be in Walnut Creek. Starting this summer, Stereo 41 will offer Middle Eastern dishes in a space channeling the style and sounds of Japanese hi-fi bars. Stereo 41 comes from an ambitious team that includes Victor Ghaben of hot chicken specialist World Famous Hot Boys and Sofia Sabet, his sister and owner of adjacent restaurant Lita. The siblings worked with Andres Giraldo Flores of Oakland's Snail Bar in developing the menu. Leading the kitchen is executive chef Jonathan De La Torre, who has worked at San Francisco landmark restaurants such as Mourad, Nopa and Quince. — M.C. Projected opening: late summer 1535 Bonanza St. Walnut Creek. Soba Dining Sora Soba noodles don't often get the spotlight in the Bay Area, where only a few restaurants specialize in this Japanese buckwheat noodle. But Soba Dining Sora is adding to the local roster this summer. The restaurant, with two locations in Japan's Saitama Prefecture, will open in Japantown next to sibling restaurant Hinodeya Ramen. The restaurant has become known for its nutty noodles made fresh and served with bonito dipping sauce and tempura, or as part of a set meal which can include duck loin or assorted sashimi in a relaxed, casual environment. — M.C. Expected opening: midsummer 1731 Buchanan St., San Francisco. Super Mensch There's a new restaurant paying homage to East Coast-style Jewish delis coming to San Francisco's Marina District. Super Mensch is the newest venture from the Causwells team, who operate next door, with chef Adam Rosenblum serving nostalgic homages to the Reubens on rye and other Jewish American dishes he grew up eating. Expect sandwiches stacked with pastrami cured in-house and fresh baked bagels topped with lox. As expected from the Causwells team, bar director Elmer Mejicanos has prepared elaborate cocktails that tap into New York deli staples like black and white cookies and celery-flavored sodas. — M.C. Projected opening: August 2336 Chestnut St., San Francisco. Tsujita Artisan Noodle One of Los Angeles' most famous ramen shops is coming to the Bay Area: Tsujita Artisan Noodle, opening its first Northern California location in San Jose this month. People line up at Tsujita for its speciality: tsukemen, or cold ramen noodles served with a warm dipping sauce on the side. Tsujita serves bowls of thick, chewy noodles crowned with chashu, seasoned eggs and other toppings; plus spicy and vegan variations and Japanese beer and sake. It will join only a few other dedicated tsukemen restaurants in the Bay Area, including the popular Taishoken and Shutgetsu. — E.K. Projected opening: June 21

Labubu-maker Pop Mart diversifies into jewellery with new concept store

By Casey Hall and Nicoco Chan SHANGHAI (Reuters) -"Blind box" toymaker Pop Mart, which has seen frenzied sales worldwide for products related to its ugly-cute Labubu character, opened its first jewellery store in Shanghai on Friday. The jewellery concept store, called Popop, sells accessories adorned with Pop Mart's top-selling characters, including Labubu, Molly and Skullpanda. While Chinese consumption remains subdued in the face of a prolonged property downturn and sluggish economy, Pop Mart's affordable and adorable toys have remained in high demand both at home and abroad, driving its share price up more than 200% so far this year. Investor Zhang Ming, 34, who owns Pop Mart stocks worth 100 million yuan ($13.92 million), flew from his base in the southwestern Chinese city of Chongqing for the opening to check out the new store type and decide whether to increase his shareholding in the company. "I believe that the pricing and target audience for this brand are particularly well-suited, and I am confident that Pop Mart could potentially become China's version of Disney," Zhang said, predicting that the company's market cap could double from its current $45.65 billion valuation. Along with some Disney characters and others related to anime, comics and popular video games, Pop Mart's characters are seen as fulfilling what has been called "emotional consumption", which sees young consumers spend on affordable luxuries that bring joy into their lives. Fang Ke, 35, who has a birthday coming up this month decided to treat herself to a 699 yuan Labubu bracelet at the opening. "I've loved Pop Mart for a long time; it's good-looking, brightly coloured, and also has a visual impact," she said. "My daughter likes it too." At Popop, prices start at around 350 yuan for charms or a simple silver ring, and go as high as 2699 yuan for necklaces adorned with metallic models of the characters. Most pieces are priced at under 1,000 yuan. At a traditional Pop Mart store, the "blind box" toys that the chain is best known for generally sell for 69 yuan and up, but consumers have shown a willingness to shell out much more for limited editions. Earlier this week, a Beijing auction house sold a human-sized Labubu figure for 1.08 million yuan, setting a new record and marking the toy's switch from craze to collectible. Exclusive-India moves to conserve its rare earths, seeks halt to Japan exports, sources say

By Neha Arora and Aditi Shah NEW DELHI (Reuters) -India has asked state-run miner IREL to suspend a 13-year-old agreement on rare earth exports to Japan and to safeguard supplies for domestic needs, two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters, aiming to reduce India's dependence on China. IREL also wants to develop India's capacity for rare earth processing, which is dominated globally by China and has become a weapon in escalating trade wars. China has curbed its rare earth materials exports since April, pressuring automakers and high-tech manufacturers worldwide. In a recent meeting with auto and other industry executives, Indian Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal asked IREL to stop its exports of rare earths, mainly neodymium, a key material used in magnets for electric vehicle motors, one of the sources said. The Commerce Ministry, IREL and the Department of Atomic Energy, which oversees IREL, did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The sources declined to be identified because of the sensitivity of the matter. Under a 2012 government agreement, IREL supplies rare earths to Toyotsu Rare Earths India, a unit of Japanese trading house Toyota Tsusho, which processes them for export to Japan where they are used to make magnets. In 2024, Toyotsu shipped more than 1,000 metric tons of rare earth materials to Japan, commercially available customs data showed. That is one-third of the 2,900 tons mined by IREL, although Japan relies mainly on China for its rare earths supply. Toyota Tsusho and Toyotsu did not immediately respond to requests for comment. IREL has been exporting rare earths due to a lack of domestic processing capacity, but following the recent disruptions to supplies of Chinese material it wants to keep its rare earths at home and expand domestic mining and processing, a second source said, adding that IREL is awaiting statutory clearances at four mines. However, India may not immediately be able to stop supplies to Japan because they fall under a bilateral government agreement, the person said. IREL wants this to be "amicably decided and negotiated because Japan is a friendly nation", the person added. Japan's Trade Ministry said in a statement to Reuters: "We would like to refrain from answering questions about bilateral exchanges in general, not just about this matter." EXPANSION PLANS China's recent export controls on rare earth materials have rocked the global auto industry, which has warned of supply chain disruptions and production halts. China also weaponised its supplies in 2010, when it briefly stopped shipments to Japan. That prompted the Japanese to turn to India for rare earths. India has the world's fifth-largest rare earth reserves, at 6.9 million metric tons, but there is no domestic magnet production. India relies on imported magnets, mainly from China. In the fiscal year to March 2025, India imported 53,748 metric tons of rare earth magnets, government data showed. These are used in automobiles, wind turbines, medical devices and other manufactured goods. Rare earth mining is restricted to IREL, which supplies India's Atomic Energy Department with materials for nuclear power projects and defence-related applications. India lacks wide-scale technology and infrastructure to mine rare earths, and the development of any commercially viable domestic supply chain is years away, analysts said. IREL has a rare earths extraction plant in the eastern Indian state of Odisha and a refining unit in Kerala, in southern India. The miner, founded in 1950, plans to produce 450 metric tons of extracted neodymium in the fiscal year to March 2026 with a plan to double that by 2030, the second person said. It is also looking for a corporate partner for the production of rare earth magnets for the auto and pharmaceutical industries, the person said. India is firming up plans for incentives to companies to set up rare earth processing and magnet production facilities to meet local demand, people familiar with the matter told Reuters earlier this month.
