Hindustan Times2 days ago

Akshat Kumar Chaurasia (Common Rank List 6), the IIT Kanpur zone topper in JEE Advanced 2025, acknowledged the sacrifice of his mother who left the comfort of her home and decided to shift with her son to Kota to be his pillar of support, shielding him from the stress of competitive exams.
'A lot of credit for my success goes to my mother, Vaishali Chaurasia, who happily came to Kota to stay with me in the same hostel, which many will not find comfortable enough. But hats off to her that she stayed there. I would like to thank my father, Manoj Kumar Chaurasia, who never objected to it. Had they not taken such a bold decision for my study, this would not have been all that easy. My father works at Oriental Insurance as a senior divisional manager,' said Akshat of Varanasi.
Akshat wants to study computer science at IIT Bombay.
'I believe, for the time being, technology will rule the world. From Artificial Intelligence (AI) to robotics, the world will see technology finding precedence over everything. I think we will see many more exciting things in the future. I am looking forward to studying at IIT Bombay. It has been a dream since I was in Class 9,' he said.
Akshat, who passed Class 12 with 98% marks, cracked the JEE Main and Advanced exams in his first attempt.
'It is not very difficult to pass Class 12 and crack the competition if a child is determined to strike a balance between the board exam and competition. Physics, chemistry and mathematics were looked after by teachers in coaching. The rest of the subjects were looked after by school,' he said.
Akshat's elder sister is a software engineer in Pune. She did B Tech from IIIT Bhagalpur.
Chirayu Jain (AIR 28) from Indore stood second in IIT Kanpur zone. His success mantra was to study consistently.
Shreyas Lohiya (CRL 68) from IIT Kanpur zone wants to pursue computer science either from IIT Bombay or IIT Delhi. Though Shreyas hails from Prayagraj, he appeared in the Class 12 board examination from Lucknow. His father Gajendra Lohiya works at the Doordarshan Lucknow centre and mother Vandana Lohiya is a homemaker.
A native of Mathura, Krishna Agrawal (AIR 75) is among the top five from Kanpur zone.
He appeared in the board exams as a student of Loyola International and JEE, both from Lucknow.
'After school, I used to go straight to my coaching institute. I (also) did self-study at home. Happy to crack the exam in the first attempt. I would like to study computer science either from IIT Bombay or IIT Delhi,' he said.
Prayag Tiwari (AIR 112) was also from IIT Kanpur zone.
Harshita Goyal (AIR 434) is the topper among women candidates from IIT-Kanpur zone.
A resident of Ujjain, Goyal wants to study computer science from any of the top five IITs.
'I am happy to be a topper among women candidates (in IIT-Kanpur zone),' she said.
Advay Mayank of Delhi Public School Noida has secured AIR 36 in JEE Advanced 2025. He wants to study computer science, either from IIT Delhi or IIT Bombay. The family is weighing both options. A resident of Indirapuram, he said he attended coaching for three years from Class 10 onwards. In the CBSE Class 12 exam this year, he scored 99.2%.
'Those preparing for next year's exam should practise more and take mock tests seriously as these teach you better time management and how swiftly one can finish writing answers and move to the next one,' he said. His mother, Dr Aditi Sinha, is a paediatrician, and father Mayank Kumar is a marketing professional.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi on Wednesday announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) to research artificial intelligence (AI) solutions in healthcare. This comes a year after the two institutes were awarded a grant of ₹330 crore by the Ministry of Education under its Make AI in India, Make AI Work for India initiative. People in the know said the proposed CoE will be the executing vehicle for the grant. Commenting on the collaboration, AIIMS director M Srinivas said the MoU marks the beginning of far-reaching collaborative research that has the potential to change the face of healthcare in the country. Terming the partnership as having the potential to transform AI for affordable healthcare, Rangan Banerjee, director, IIT Delhi, added the institutes are delighted to be shaping this national Centre of Excellence and hope the output will impact the lives of Indians. The institutes added that the AI-CoE will primarily focus on developing AI-based solutions to support key national health programmes. Chetan Arora, chief project manager, who will lead the AI-CoE from IIT Delhi, told Business Standard the CoE would be taken up as a Section 8 company (non-profit organisation). He added that according to the initial proposal, the CoE will look at at least five national health programmes, including those for cancer, maternity and child care, blindness, and tuberculosis (TB). 'The CoE will be dynamic and adjust to the demands of our national health programmes and the pace of AI technology,' Arora said. According to people in the know, the company is proposed to be run by a board of directors, which may include secretaries from the Ministries of Education, Health, and Electronics and Information Technology. 'The NPO can be led by a chief executive officer (CEO), who will be selected at a later stage,' an AIIMS official said on condition of anonymity. The CoE is expected to become a national resource, open to seeking further funding from private sources and alumni networks. 'While the initial funding from the government grant is for a period of four years, the CoE would also be open to collaborate with other partners to develop AI solutions,' the official quoted above said.

'Be Consistent': How Mumbai's Sahil Deo Went From Rank 102 In JEE Mains To AIR 7 In Advanced?

Last Updated: JEE Advanced AIR 7 Sahil Deo also hails from a family of engineers. While his father is an engineer at Mahindra, his brother graduated from IIT Delhi and works at Goldman Sachs. 'Being consistent is the key", says 18-year-old Sahil Mukesh Deo who grabbed the seventh spot in the JEE Advanced 2025, the results of which were released on Monday. However, it was no mean feat for Sahil who was quite demotivated after his JEE Mains 2025 exams held in February and April. He had scored an All India Rank of 102. But it was his love for science and motivation by his teachers that kept him going. After securing more than 99 per cent in his 10th boards from Wisdom High International School, Nashik, Sahil, shifted to Mumbai in class 11 to prepare for the JEE Advanced. It was his love for computer applications that made him take up engineering. 'I have always been interested in science especially the application part such as computer science and mathematics. Coding is something that grabbed my attention. Hence CSE at IIT Bombay is a natural choice," the youngster said. He joined Narayana in class 11 for his JEE preparations. While Sahil scored 285 marks in JEE Main session 1, he got 270 marks in session 2. However, he proved that once you set your goals, nothing can stop you and made a comeback in the IIT entrance exam by securing 321 marks out 360 or AIR 7 in JEE Advanced. 'Mains did not go very well for me. The final rank was 102 and I had lost a lot of confidence after that. My teachers really motivated me. They had explained how JEE Mains and Advanced are different exams. Hence, I had to keep myself motivated," Sahil told News18. Talking about his preparation process, he said, 'While I kept no track of how long I studied, I would continue with my preparations at anytime I could. After returning home from classes in the evening, I would relax for sometime, watch some YouTube videos, and then get back to study. Again, take break during dinner time and go back study. It's more about consistency. It's the key. Study whenever you get the chance to and create those opportunities more often. Don't let it slip and think so now I can relax." He had also appeared for Chemistry, Physics and Astronomy Olympiads in 12th standard. 'I was also selected for the Indian National Olympiads in the second level however couldn't crack the third level as I did not really prepare for it," he said. Besides, Sahil also hails from a family of engineers. While his father is an engineer at Mahindra, his brother graduated from IIT Delhi and works at Goldman Sachs. His mother is a housewife.
