Germany's Evonik launches AERODISP dispersions

Fibre2Fashion12-05-2025

Evonik Coating Additives has introduced a range of four new AERODISP dispersions based on SiO2 or Al2O3 particles, designed to improve waterborne inkjet ink receptive coatings.
Evonik Coating Additives has launched four new AERODISP dispersions, based on SiO₂ or Al₂O₃ particles, to enhance waterborne inkjet ink receptive coatings. Designed for high dot sharpness and ink fixation, the range includes two anionic and two cationic grades for diverse applications, including food packaging, decorative uses, and textiles.
Excellent dot sharpness and high resolution are key supporting the transition from analogue to digital printing, especially for waterborne inkjet inks. In order to achieve high-quality results, it is necessary to control the spreading behavior and fixation of the inks on the substrate.
With the new range of waterborne AERODISP dispersions, Evonik Coating Additives has developed products to ensure high dot sharpness and fixation of ink droplets on ink receptive coatings, also known as inkjet primers. The AERODISP dispersions can be incorporated by simple stirring and are compatible with many different binders and formulations.
To meet the needs of different applications, two of these new AERODISP dispersions are anionic and two are cationic. This allows for optimal interaction and fixation of the ink on the primer.
The anionic grades are particularly recommended for food packaging and decorative applications as they are compatible with non-ionic and anionic binder systems. The cationic grades are compatible with non-ionic and cationic binder systems, making them the first choice for primers for e.g., textile inks.
Overview of new AERODISP dispersions: AERODISP WR 8520 – anionic, SiO2-based
AERODISP W 7520 WF – anionic, SiO2-based, excellent food contact status
AERODISP WK 7330 – cationic, SiO2-based
AERODISP W 630 – cationic, Al2O3-based, for high transparency
'We offer a comprehensive range of wetting agents for waterborne inkjet inks. Working with our customers, we have seen how important the substrate is. Ink receptive coatings, or inkjet primers, can ensure the highest resolution when formulated with our new AERODISP dispersions,' says Susanne Struck, Global Head of Market Segment Inks at Evonik Coating Additives.
Evonik Coating Additives offers a broad range of products and services for inks, along with a wide selection of additives for waterborne, radiation-curable, and solvent-borne printing inks and inkjet inks. Drewry WCI jumps 70% on rebound in US-bound shipping

Drewry's World Container Index (WCI) has increased by 70 per cent over the past four weeks, as President Donald Trump's 'pause' on import tariffs led to a resumption of US-bound traffic following an initial collapse in transpacific volumes. Freight rates from Shanghai to Los Angeles have surged 57 per cent in the past week to $5,876 per 40ft container, marking a 117 per cent increase since May 8 (four weeks ago). Spot rates to New York have risen by 39 per cent over the past week and by 96 per cent over the same four-week period, according to Drewry's WCI. Drewry's World Container Index has surged 70 per cent in four weeks, driven by a rebound in US-bound traffic after President Trump paused import tariffs. Freight rates from Shanghai to Los Angeles and New York have more than doubled since early May. While the current spike reverses earlier declines, Drewry expects spot rates to fall again in H2 due to weakening supply-demand balance. Freight rates from Shanghai to Rotterdam and Genoa have also increased in the past week, by 32 per cent and 38 per cent, respectively. The latest sharp, short-term strengthening in the global container shipping supply-demand balance has reversed the downward rate trend that began in January. However, Drewry's Container Forecaster anticipates that the supply-demand balance will weaken again in the second half of the year, causing spot rates to decline once more. The volatility and timing of these rate changes will depend on the outcomes of legal challenges to Trump's tariffs and on capacity shifts linked to the proposed US penalties on Chinese vessels, both of which remain uncertain. US, Chinese prezs speak on phone; focus 'almost entirely' on trade

US President Donald Trump held a long and 'very good' phone call yesterday with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, according to a Truth Social post by the former. 'I just concluded a very good phone call with President Xi, of China, discussing some of the intricacies of our recently made, and agreed to, Trade Deal,' Trump wrote. President Trump held a long and 'very good' phone call yesterday with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, the former announced on Truth Social. The 90-minute call “resulted in a very positive conclusion for both Countries,” he noted. The conversation focused “almost entirely on TRADE”. Teams from both sides would meet soon, at a yet-to-be-determined location, to work out further trade arrangements. 'The call lasted approximately one and a half hours, and resulted in a very positive conclusion for both Countries,' he noted. A Chinese state-run news agency confirmed that the conversation was initiated by Trump. Trump's social media post said the conversation focused 'almost entirely on TRADE' and clarified that issues such as Russia/Ukraine or Iran were not discussed. Both the countries had struck a 90-day agreement on May 12 to roll back certain tariffs imposed during the ongoing trade war. However, tension over critical minerals continued. Teams from both countries would meet soon, at a yet-to-be-determined location, to work out further trade arrangements, Trump's social media post announced. The US side will be represented by treasury secretary Scott Bessent, commerce secretary Howard Lutnick and US trade representative Jamieson Greer. 'President Xi graciously invited the First Lady and me to visit China, and I reciprocated,' Trump added. Fibre2Fashion News Desk (DS)
