Refreshed Fouche ready to fire for Stormers against Cardiff
Fouche has served a three game ban after picking up a red card in March and is fired up for his return to the field.

A refreshed Neethling Fouche is fired up to get back on the park and put in a big effort for the Stormers when they take on Cardiff in their final United Rugby Championship (URC) pool match at the Cape Town Stadium on Friday night.
Fouche has frustratingly been out for the last six weeks, after he picked up a red card for head collision in a tackle against Ulster in March, which many local pundits and coaches believed was a rugby incident and undeserving of a suspension.
However he was handed a four match, which was upheld despite the Stormers appealing the decision, and thus missed their last three URC matches, with him able to return this week thanks to completing tackle school.
Speaking at a training session this week, Fouche chose to look at the positives, and was grateful for the opportunity to rest his body after a tough season so far.
Silver lining
'I am a great believer that there is always some silver lining to every disappointment. It has been really disappointing sitting out these three games. When you are not playing you do feel more anxious,' explained Fouche.
'The last two that I was here to watch were OK because we won comfortably and there were no grey hairs but the first one against Connacht had me at home sitting with my pillow over my head, unable to look.
'Disappointment can quickly be turned around into a positive, and I got over the disappointment of being told I was suspended for three games by figuring out that it was a chance to get rid of a few niggles and to freshen up a bit.
'Fortunately there was no setback for the Stormers while I was out and we won all three games with bonus points, so looking back it has been good. The season started with the pre-season in early September and my minutes have been high. So I was able to say to myself, 'OK, listen, maybe your body does need a rest'.'
Front row depth
One of the positives for the Stormers during Fouche's time out has been the impressive performance from their back up brigade, who have massively stepped up after Frans Malherbe was also ruled out with injury, and Brok Harris retired after injuring his knee.
'The great thing for us at the Stormers is that there are always new guys coming through, and with Frans also out it offered an opportunity to Sazi (Sandi), and I thought he did really well.
'Vernon (Matogo) also showed us what I have always thought of him, which is that he is going to be a big name loosehead in the future. And then there's Ali Vermaak who has been playing for 43 years,' joked Fouche.
'I do have a soft spot for Vernon. This is the first season he has been training with us and you just know when you are a tighthead when you are going up against a loosehead that has got it. He puts me under so much pressure (in training).
'He's always asking for advice and listening, he is always willing to learn and he is just getting better and better. I really think he is a loosehead prop we should be really excited about.'

Evan Roos called up to Springbok squad
Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus on Sunday added Stormers No 8 Evan Roos to his squad for the matches against the Barbarians and the Incoming Series, increasing the size of his group to 55 players. Roos, who attended the first alignment in Cape Town in February, has run out seven times in the green and gold. His last Test was against Portugal in Bloemfontein in 2024, before he was sidelined for several months due to shoulder surgery. On-field preparations The Springbok squad will report for duty in Johannesburg on Sunday afternoon and begin their on-field preparations on Monday, as the team gets the wheels in motion for the international season starting in under three weeks. The Springboks will kick off their season against the Barbarians in Cape Town on Saturday, 28 June, in the first ever match between the sides on South African soil, before taking on Italy in back-to-back Tests in Pretoria and Gqeberha on 5 and 12 July, and Georgia in Nelspruit on 19 July. With the Bulls and Leinster battling it out in the United Rugby Championship final at Croke Park in Dublin next Saturday, and Bath and Leicester meeting in the Gallagher Premiership final on the same day, the players will join the squad based on a staggered approach, until the completion of respective club commitments. Bulls No 8 Hanekom won't play in the URC final, Evan Roos called up to the Springbok squad
The Bulls' Cameron Hanekom suffered a match-ending injury in the URC semi-final against the Sharks at Loftus Versveld on Saturday. Photo: Itumeleng English Independent Media Image: Itumeleng English Independent Media As the dew was settling on the Bulls' United Rugby Championship semi-final defeat of the Sharks, a disconsolate Cameron Hanekom was hugged by his teammates as he hobbled on crutches, his right leg heavily strapped. It was poignant to see the Bulls players commiserating with the young No 8 who has to live with not participating in this week's final against Leinster in Dublin. The big question now is how long the URC Player of the Year finalist will be out of rugby with the Springbok season looming. Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus has moved swiftly to address the loose forward situation, calling up Stormers No 8 Evan Roos to cover for Hanekom for the match against the Barbarians in Cape Town on June 28, and the two-Test series against Italy. Bulls coach Jake White provided some clarity on Hanekom's injury, which occurred in the 47th minute of the closely fought contest. Hanekom was cleared out a ruck by Sharks captain Siya Kolisi. He clutched his hamstring in pain and was in discomfort as he left the field on a golf cart. 'Cameron is being given a probe. Obviously, he's very upset, which is natural. He is quite down,' White said. 'I told his parents earlier in the change room that they must remember he is 21-years old with a long future ahead of him. People forget how times have changed in rugby,' White reflected. 'When I started coaching (in the late 90s), 21-year-old forwards weren't invited to Bulls training. The Stormers' Evan Roos will replace Cameron Hanekom in the Springboks' squad. Photo: Backpagepix Image: Backpagepix 'If they were, it was generally for the old men to bash them on a Monday night at training. 'Cameron has obviously jumped the line because he is so talented, and he feels a bit down now, but we must not forget that he's just 21. There's still a lot of rugby that he's going to be involved in over the next couple of years.' White is hopeful that Hanekom's injury isn't as serious as it appears but confirmed that he won't play in the final. 'When it is swollen and there's blood on it, it is tough to see,' White said. 'They had a look and he won't play against Leinster, that I can tell you.
