SALEM: The wife of a late school headmaster in Salem has been awaiting his retirement and death benefits for 11 years from the state government.
J Revathi of Fairlands in Salem said she has been running from pillar to post because educational officers of the School Education Department in Salem have been unjustifiably delaying the benefits due.
The 61-year-old recently petitioned the School Education Secretary, urging him to ensure the payment of benefits and demanding action against educational officers.
Revathi told TNIE that her husband, C Jothirlingam, who was the headmaster of a government-aided school in Salem, passed away in September 2014 and she received a gratuity of Rs 10 lakh in 2015.
'Except for the gratuity and pension, I have not received any death-cum-retirement benefits such as leave encashment, lifetime arrears, final closure amount etc from the state government so far,' she said, adding that, along with her, four other legal heirs have been struggling to receive their benefits from the education department.'No action has been taken by educational officers from the block to the state level despite repeated petitions to them,' Revathi stated.

‘Loan for purchase of machinery re-routed', ED files prosecution complaint against Gujarat-based cold storage company
The Ahmedabad zonal office of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday said it has filed a Prosecution Complaint (PC) in the matter of M/s Avon Cold Storage Private Limited under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) before the PMLA Special Court on May 31, adding the court has taken cognisance of the matter. The ED, in a statement on Tuesday, said it had initiated its investigation on the basis of an FIR registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Gandhinagar, against M/s Avon Cold Storage Private Limited, its directors, and other private persons and public servants, alleging that the accused persons had, in criminal conspiracy, allegedly cheated the Union Bank of India (UBI) by means of falsification of records and providing false/forged documents, dishonestly availing the loan facility. The ED claimed its investigation revealed that the term loan facility was availed by M/s Avon Cold Storage Private Limited from Union Bank (earlier known as Andhra Bank) after allegedly producing bogus proforma invoices from another company. 'These credit facilities were extended for purchase of plant and machinery for setting up of a cold storage unit. However, the amount was not utilised for that purpose. The term loan was re-routed through different entities and withdrawn in cash to the tune of Rs 3.92 crore, leaving no money trail behind. The funds were further utilised for purposes other than stated in the loan agreement,' said the ED statement. The ED also said it had earlier provisionally attached movable and immovable properties valued at Rs 1.30 crore in the case, adding further investigation is under progress.

Pak agent gave Rs 15,000 to Thane man as gift
RAVI VARMA (27), the Thane resident arrested last week by the Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) for allegedly providing sensitive information to a Pakistan Intelligence Operative (PIO), had put his company's name and phone number on his social media profile, making him an easy target of enemy spies, officials said. Varma, who was honey-trapped by the PIO posing as a college student from Punjab, worked for a defence firm contracted by the Indian Navy. Initially, the PIO contacted him on messenger through fake accounts but he blocked them. The Pakistani agent then contacted him directly on WhatsApp as his mobile number too was mentioned on his profile, an official said, adding that those working in sensitive sectors should not mention personal details on their social media accounts as PIOs actively seek such information online. Giving details of how he was honey-trapped, the official said initially the PIO posed as a girl, identifying herself as 'Preety', a student of Panjab University, and contacted him on Facebook messenger. She said she had a college project related to construction of a ship and needed his help. He blocked her. She then contacted him from another account identifying herself as 'Ashpreet'. She requested him to help her or she would fail. Eventually, she called him on WhatsApp and, over a period of time, he allegedly sent her photographs of maps of ships that he drew after visiting restricted areas in Mumbai port. He also chatted with one of her 'professors' whom he addressed as 'Sir'. 'She also gave him around Rs 15,000 to purchase things for his sister's children. In fact, his sister had a fight with the woman, asking her to leave her brother. However, by then he was smitten by her and had passed on enough sensitive details,' the official said. The official said the private defence company in Navi Mumbai for which he worked, the terms and conditions specifically mentions that employees are not meant to share sensitive information they have access to because of the nature of their job. The accused was produced before the Thane court on Monday and his custody extended.
