US Navy sailor indicted in Japan over deadly car crash, Navy says
A U.S. Navy sailor was indicted on Thursday in Japan on negligent driving charges related to a deadly car crash, the a Navy spokesperson said.
The sailor is affiliated with the U.S. Fleet Activities in Yokosuka, Japan, and was "involved in a motor-vehicle incident with a Japanese national on Sept. 18, 2024," Cmdr. Paul Macapagal, spokesperson for U.S. Naval Forces Japan, told ABC News in an emailed statement.
"It would be inappropriate to comment due to ongoing legal proceedings," Macapagal said.
The Navy did not identify the sailor by name, but local media and Stars and Stripes identified him as Jaden Llanos. The sailor has reportedly been held in U.S. custody since the crash.
The crash was reportedly near the Womble Gate at the naval base in Yokosuka. Tsubasa Itoh, a 22-year-old motorcyclist, was killed in the crash, according to Stars and Stripes and TBS, a Japanese news outlet.

Little Rock man with dishonorable discharge gets 12-year federal sentence for gun possession
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A Little Rock man received a 12-year sentence in federal prison on Friday. Officials with the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas said 26-year-old James Charles Hart of Wynne received the sentence as the result of a Dec. 7, 2023 complaint. He was indicted in January 2023 for being a dishonorably discharged person in possession of a firearm and possession of an unregistered firearm. The court martial found that his conduct included advocating for killing military members and encouraging others to take up the cause and recruit others. During the court-martial, Hart told the presiding judge that he was not kidding when he made those statements. In April 2023, however, FBI investigators found that Hart entered a home's driveway dressed in a tactical vest and carrying an AR-style rifle. He told the homeowners he was patrolling the neighborhood for looters and they told him to leave, officials said. The FBI arrested Hart in December 2023. During subsequent search warrants of his house and car, investigators said they found 'numerous' handguns, shotguns, AR and AK-patterned rifles, and 'NFA weapons,' a class of weapons including machine guns and sawed-off shotguns. They also reported finding thousands of rounds of ammunition, ammunition magazines, ballistic helmets, body armor, gas masks, and tactical gear. Authorities searching for missing Naval Station Norfolk sailor
Navy investigators and local authorities are searching for a missing sailor last seen May 29 on Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia. The Virginia State Police issued a critically missing adult alert for Culinary Specialist Seaman Angelina Petra Resendiz, 21, who vanished after being spotted at her barracks in Miller Hall and hasn't spoken to friends or family since. 'The disappearance poses a credible threat to their health and safety as determined by the investigative agency,' the alert said. Resendiz is assigned to the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer James E. Williams, the Navy said. Resendiz is five feet tall, Hispanic, weighs 110 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes, according to the alert, which also stated her clothing description was unknown. Resendiz might be carrying a black and purple backpack, according to a Naval Criminal Investigative Service post on X. Anyone with information is urged to call NCIS at 877-579-3648 or use the NCIS Tips mobile app. When approached for comment, the Virginia State Police referred questions to NCIS, as they are spearheading the investigation. Mother of missing Navy sailor in Norfolk speaks out as investigation continues
NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The investigation into missing Culinary Specialist Seaman Angelina Resendiz out of Naval Station Norfolk is still ongoing. Resendiz was initially reported missing on May 29, and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) states her disappearance from the Virginia naval station poses a credible threat to their health and safety. 'She talks to somebody every day,' Castle said. 'Her and my sister have a 400-day streak on Snapchat, and it all stopped on Thursday. She doesn't miss work.' Castle contacted the Navy and flew all the way to Hampton Roads, Virginia, from Texas to look for Resendiz, whom she describes as kind and compassionate. 'She's a very kind person. She's loving,' Castle said. 'She sees someone down, she's compassionate and encouraging and uplifting, and it's just natural for her. You see her and she's always smiling.' Esmerelda Castle shared the below photos of her daughter with WAVY. Castle said the last person who was seen with her daughter showed up to work on Monday, while Resendiz did not. 'I got here Thursday, and [investigators] still couldn't tell me anything,' Castle said.
