Robinson overcomes embarrassing wardrobe malfunction to win Ostrava 400 hurdles

American Chris Robinson overcame an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction to win the 400 metres hurdles at the Ostrava Golden Spike meeting in the Czech Republic on Tuesday, breaking the tape in 48.05 seconds.
The 24-year-old had to adjust his shorts on multiple occasions after inadvertently exposing himself and he hit the final hurdle hard before rolling into a somersault after crossing the finish line.
He lay on the track grinning after finishing with his best time of the season, one tenth of a second off his personal best.
He crossed the line six hundredths of a second ahead of Brazilian Matheus Lima at the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold event, while Czech Vit Muller (48.41) was third.

Australian teen sensation Gout betters his own 200m national record

OSTRAVA, Czech Republic - Australian teenage sprinter Gout Gout crushed the 200 metres field in his first senior race abroad on Tuesday, bettering his own national record by two hundredths of a second to finish in 20.02 seconds at the Ostrava Golden Spike. The 17-year-old ran a textbook race in his European debut at the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold event in the Czech Republic, crossing the line 0.17 seconds ahead of Cuban Reynier Mena, while Briton Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake (20.60) was third. "I feel good. New personal best, new national record in my first European race," the Queensland schoolboy told reporters. "I don't feel any pressure. Because as soon as I step out on that track, it's just me by myself and what I've got to do — my favourite thing, and that's to run. "So, I just go out there and run and nothing stops me from doing that ... Get some more races in me and (the 20-second barrier) will drop for sure." Gout has drawn comparisons to Jamaican great Usain Bolt and he made headlines in December when he broke Peter Norman's national record that had stood for 56 years in 20.04. He ran a 19.84-second 200 and 9.99 seconds in the 100m at the Australian national championships in Perth in April but a strong tailwind rendered both illegal. His performances were strong enough, however, to earn him a spot on Australia's team for the World Championships in Tokyo in September. Boss Lage urges belief in Benfica as they stun Bayern to top Club World Cup group

Benfica manager Bruno Lage urged fans to have more faith in his team after they pulled off a surprise 1-0 victory over Bayern Munich on Tuesday to secure top spot in Group C at the Club World Cup. Andreas Schjelderup's 13th-minute goal sealed the win to put Benfica top of the group with seven points, one ahead of the Bundesliga champions. WHY IT'S IMPORTANT After a 2–2 draw in their opener against Boca Juniors and a shaky first half in a 6–0 win over Auckland City, Benfica earned their first win in 14 official matches against Bayern Munich. With their first-place finish at the revamped FIFA tournament, the Portuguese league runners-up are set to face either Chelsea or Esperance de Tunis in the round of 16. KEY QUOTES Lage: "We went into this game with a lot of confidence. The first half was very good, we created the best chances to score. We wanted to be aggressive and we finished first in the group and the feeling is good. "We finished first and it means a lot for us. People need to believe more in the work we are doing. They were speaking about Boca needing to win by a lot of goals (to advance) and they forgot about this game. No one believed we were going to win against Bayern. "We have a very good group, we are evaluated every three days by the result, but when we win we are not the best and when we do not win we are not the worst. "Now we have to stay humble, recover, rest as much as possible, understand who our opponents will be and go into the game with the same ambitions."
