Amarnath Yatra: Around 125 langars to be set up for pilgrims
Jammu, June 12 (UNI) As preparations are in full swing for an upcoming Shri Amarnath Yatra starting from July 3, this year around 125 langars (community kitchen) will be set up from Lakhanpur (gateway to J&K) to the cave shrine situated in the South Kashmir Himalayas.
Official sources said that nearly 125 langars will be set up from Lakhanpur to the cave shrine, including on the twin Pahalgam and Baltal routes.
They said that the trucks carrying langar material and infrastructural equipment to install sheds will start reaching Jammu and Kashmir from June 15.
"The process of installing langars will be completed by the end of this month," they said.
This year, the 38-day-long yatra starting from July 3 will conclude on August 9, on the day of Raksha Bandhan.
The first batch will leave from Jammu on July 2.
Officials said that apart from the Yatra routes, more than 50 langars will be installed from Lakhanpur to Srinagar and Pahalgam and Baltal after being permitted by the Amarnath Shrine Board to the langar organisations.
They stated that langar organisations from Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and other states will be setting up community kitchens en route to the Cave Shrine.
They said that out of the total, 25 langars will be organised in Baltal and Domel, 13 langars at the holy cave, 8 at Sheshnag, 5 at Pissutop, 12 at Panchtarni, 7 at Chandanwari, 9 at Nunwan and 5 at Zojibal.
Five langars will also be set up at the Jammu base camp Yatri Niwas Bhagwati Nagar and about 50 on Jammu-Pathankot and Jammu-Srinagar national highways.
Shri Amarnath Shrine Board has also finalised the food menu for the langar organisations and asked them to avoid oily items.
The Shrine Board has also encouraged the pilgrims to eat nutritious and healthy food.
The holy cave of Shri Amarnath is located in Pahalgam of Anantnag district and is a major pilgrimage site for Hindus.
It is located at an altitude of about 13,600 feet above sea level.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday also inspected the maintenance, upgradation and widening of the Yatra track en route and took a first-hand appraisal of the measures taken by the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board and Border Road Organisation (BRO) to ensure the safe and hassle-free pilgrimage of the devotees.
Sinha also performed the Pratham Puja at the Holy Cave, marking the ceremonial beginning of the annual Shri Amarnath Yatra.
The Lieutenant Governor urged all the devotees of Baba Barfani to visit in large numbers for the Holy Yatra and prayed for the progress of J&K and the nation.

Destinations Closed After Pahalgam Attack Being Reopened In Phased Manner
Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday said the parks at tourist places, which were closed in view of security considerations after the April 22 Pahalgam attack, are being reopened in a phased manner to allow tourists to visit the destinations. He said that some destinations will be reopened in the first phase from June 17. "Some places were closed after April 22 (attack) in view of security considerations. The divisional commissioners and IGPs of Kashmir and Jammu have taken reports from every district and it has been decided to reopen some destinations in a phased manner," Sinha said. The lieutenant governor was speaking to reporters after visiting the Nunwan Base Camp of the annual Amarnath Yatra in Pahalgam in south Kashmir's Anantnag district. Sinha said the destinations that have been decided to be reopened for tourists in the first phase include Beetab Valley and the parks near Pahalgam market in the famous tourist destination of Pahalgam, Verinag, Kokernag and Achabal gardens in Anantnag district. In Srinagar, Badamwari Park, Duck Park near Nigeen and Taqdeer Park near Hazratbal will also be reopened in the first phase. These eight places are being reopened and tourists can visit these, he added. The lieutenant governor also said that eight destinations would be reopened in Jammu region as well. "Sarthal and Dhaggar in Kathua, Devipindi, Siyad Baba and Sula Park in Reasi, Guldanda and Jai valley in Doda, and Pancheri in Udhampur -- all in Jammu region -- are also being reopened in the first phase," said Sinha. "Eight places are being reopened in the first phase. In the next phase, some other destinations will be reopened," he added. The lieutenant governor said the committee comprising of the divisional commissioners and IGPs of both regions will take reports from districts and then some more places will be reopened in consultations with the Tourist Department. "The tourists are coming. There is a new enthusiasm in people after the launch of Vande Bharat (train), Railways people have told me that all tickets have been booked for the next 10-12 days. The number of tourists is increasing gradually," said Sinha. "Endeavours are being made from every side, the Government of India will also be having meetings of the Parliamentary delegations, committees etc. in Srinagar. This will restore the confidence," he added. Commenting on the Amarnath Yatra that is scheduled to begin on July 3, the lieutenant governor said that stringent security arrangements have been made and appealed to people to come here in large numbers. "But I request them to travel in convoy only from Jammu. Security agencies have formulated a plan for them to travel here and they should stick to that plan," he said. "Met the delegation of Hon'ble MLAs, DDC Chairperson & Vice Chairpersons, tour and travel operators, Ponywala association and hoteliers' associations at Pahalgam. This is your yatra, it makes your economy stronger and it will start the revival of tourism, so there is a need for all to support it," said Sinha. "It is not the administration and security forces, but the people here who hold this yatra. The administration and the security forces are doing their job. This yatra is of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, they should think of it as their own yatra and everyone should cooperate in the Baba's yatra," he added. The lieutenant governor also said that a large number of yatris have registered for the pilgrimage. "The facilities for the yatris have improved a lot in the last three to four years. Be it the power connectivity, telecom connectivity, the number as well as the quality of the halting facilities for yatris has also increased. I visited the Nunwan base camp, the preparations are going on very well," he added.

J&K L-G announces phased re-opening of tourist destinations closed after Pahalgam attack
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday (June 14, 2025) announced a phased reopening of 48 destinations closed in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 civilians dead on April 22, 2025. 'Following a detailed security assessment, we are now in a position to welcome visitors back, gradually and responsibly. The decision to restrict access to several tourist locations was purely precautionary,' Mr. Sinha said. In the first phase, south Kashmir's key destinations, including Betab Valley, Verinag, Kokernag, and Achabal gardens, will be reopened. Besides, parks around the Pahalgam market area will also be accessible to visitors. Badamwari Garden, Duck Park, and Taqdeer Park near Hazratbal in J&K's summer capital Srinagar will also reopen. Srinagar, in spite of not being closer to the Line of Control (LoC), saw 16 destinations closed, including Jama Masjid, Badamwari, Rajouri Kadal, Aali Kadal, Faqir Gujri, Astanmarg, upper areas of Dachigam, etc. Forty-eight destinations out of 87 in the Kashmir Valley were closed for tourists after the Pahalgam attack. He also handed over a government job letter to the widow of Adil Ahmad, a pony rider who also lost his life in the attack. Mr. Sinha described him as a 'martyr' and said the government job to his widow was more than an act of compensation. 'It reflects our commitment to stand by the family. I have personally assured them of continued support and concrete measures so they may live a life of dignity. We will not let the sacrifices of the brave be forgotten,' L-G Sinha said. However, ruling National Conference (NC) said the job was approved by the elected government. 'I thank LG Sahab for handing over the job order that was already prepared by the Fisheries Dept, a department under the elected government led by Hon Min Javed Dar. This reflects the maturity and responsibility shown by the elected government, we did not allow egos to come in the way, but stood by our commitment to Adil's family in their moment of grief,' NC leader and MLA Zadibal Tanvir Sadiq said. 'Just as earlier, the elected government had prepared similar job orders for NoKs in Poonch, which were later distributed by the Home Minister after the CM had personally visited and personally committed these jobs to the families immediately after the shelling. J&K begins reopening of tourist spots and parks shut after Pahalgam attack
Srinagar, June 14 (UNI) J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has ordered reopening of several tourist destinations and parks from Tuesday. The tourist destinations and parks were shut in the wake of Pahalgam terror attack. The Jammu and Kashmir government had shut down around 50 tourist destinations and trekking trails in Kashmir on April 30, citing security reasons after the terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam that left 26 people dead. The decision to close these destinations was taken for the 'safety of the tourists' after the Pahalgam attack. LG Sinha said the reopening of other tourist destinations would be done in a phased manner. 'I've ordered reopening of some of the tourist spots in Kashmir & Jammu Divisions, which were temporarily closed as precautionary measures. Betab valley & Parks in Pahalgam Market, Verinag Garden, Kokernag Garden and Achabal Garden to be reopened from from 17th June,' office of LG said in a post on X. He said other tourist destinations being reopened includes Badamwari Park, Duck Park, Taqdeer Park in Srinagar, Sarthal, Dhaggar in Kathua, Devi Pindi, Siyad Baba, Sula Park in Reasi, Guldanda & Jai valley in Doda and Pancheri in Udhampur.
