Why Cliftonville star feels he needs to set the record straight against St Joseph's
Shea Gordon has more reason than most in the Cliftonville camp to relish next month's European showdowns with St Joseph's.
This week's draw for the first qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League paired the Reds with the side that only missed out on last season's Gibraltar Football League title due to their head-to-head record with Champions Lincoln Red Imps.

Jeremie Frimpong's two-word comment speaks volumes after £150m Liverpool reunion
Jeremie Frimpong is thrilled to have Florian Wirtz join him at Liverpool with the German midfielder the second Bayer Leverkusen star to move to the Premier League champions this summer Liverpool new boy Jeremie Frimpong claims his time at Anfield is going to be "extra fun" after he was joined by Florian Wirtz - who has shattered the British transfer record by moving to Merseyside. Frimpong was the the Premier League champion's first summer signing after moving from Bayer Leverkusen. He was bought in to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, who headed for Real Madrid, with the Reds activating his release clause. The right-back came through the ranks at Manchester City and had impressed at Celtic before Leverkusen came calling. He formed part of the side that produced a stunning season to win the Bundesliga with Wirtz also part of Xabi Alonso's outfit. Liverpool's recruitment drive has now seen them land the playmaker, regarded as one of Europe's most exciting prospects. He's joined in a £116million deal and will continue his relationship with Frimpong. Alexander-Arnold's replacement already had some home comforts at Liverpool with Dutch colleagues Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch and Cody Gakpo all on the club's books. But now he's even more thrilled to have Wirtz's company. He told ESPN: "I'm really excited. I'm really looking forward to playing with Liverpool. And of course, Florian Wirtz, my good friend, he's coming too. That makes it extra fun. I also already know some guys from the national team. So yeah, I'm really up for it. I can't wait for it to start." Frimpong has big shoes to fill at Liverpool with Alexander-Arnold becoming one of the world's best at right-back. He will need to provide quality in the final third, where Wirtz will also expected to make an impact at the Reds continue to bolster their title-winning side. Wirtz's arrival was confirmed this week and he believes now is the right time to make the jump to Liverpool. He said: "I just thought that it was the right point in my career to make the next step and of course I wanted to get to a club that is from the top three in the world, and in my opinion Liverpool was one of them." Liverpool's summer spending isn't over with Bournemouth full-back Milos Kerkez on their radar. A £40m deal is understood to be close and personal terms with the Hungarian are expected to be smooth. The transfer is believed to be a matter of when, rather than if. Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. Derry City move 'too good to turn down', says Adam Frizzell as he opens up on emotional Airdrie exit
The midfielder is ready for a new challenge in his career after leaving the Diamonds Airdrie hero Adam Frizzell admits he got emotional after leaving the Diamonds this week, but says the chance of playing European football with Derry City is too good to turn down. The midfielder has called time on a four-year spell at New Broomfield after the League of Ireland Premier Division side managed to entice him overseas. While Scottish football is preparing to kick-off for another season, the Irish League is just over the halfway point in their campaign and Derry sit fourth, aiming to land a spot in the top three to secure Europa Conference League football next term. And that has proved too big a draw for the former Kilmarnock ace, who agreed to join Derry just days after tying the knot with wife Erin in Italy earlier this month. The 27-year-old, who will be officially unveiled in the next 48 hours, told Lanarkshire Live Sport: "It's very bitter sweet. Reading everyone's messages after the club announced I was leaving, I am gutted about it. I was a wee bit emotional. "It is a really close-knit, family club and one I hold close to my heart. "Airdrie is a club I love. I have been part of the furniture for four years. I have been doing coaching as well so I have got to know a lot of the staff and fans on a personal level. "It is really sad leaving, but this is something I can't turn down and my focus is on Derry now. "I just got married in the summer as well so there's a lot of big changes. I got married in Italy and we went to Venice for a couple of days after it, so we'll wait until the winter break in the Irish league to go on a proper honeymoon. "I've been trying to run off the pasta and wine for the past week, but I have been keeping myself in shape. "I said to them I'd go and enjoy the wedding and then see what happens after that. "When I came back, the opportunity presented itself and I had to go and challenge myself. "Now I want to get over to Ireland, get sorted and get my head down. That is my main focus at the moment." Derry are currently fourth in the League of Ireland, two points behind third place Bohemians, three behind Drogheda United (who have played two games more) and 14 adrift of leaders Shamrock Rovers. So Frizzell is looking forward to getting stuck straight into a new challenge and chasing a first taste of European football. He said: "I don't think a lot of people know much about the Irish league but it is very competitive. It is packed out every week and Derry is a club on the up, looking to play in Europe. "Derry are looking to get that second or third spot. They are halfway through the season and Shamrock have a wee gap at the moment. "When I spoke to their manager Tiernan [Lynch], he really sold it. I am really looking forward to a new challenge. "I just thought it was the right time for me. I am coming into what you would say are my prime years and it is something I had to jump at. "I have left Airdrie on good terms and who knows what can happen in the future. "But this is very exciting. I have done it the hard way to get here. After Kilmarnock I had a lot of injuries and I was on a bit of a rocky road to build myself back up. "I am so thankful for Airdrie helping me do that. I had four great years there. We won a trophy - something the club hadn't done for a number of years - and to do that as captain was a real honour for me. "It is no secret how much I love the club, but it is a chance for me to step up and potentially play in Europe. It is something I couldn't turn down."

Alexander Isak as 'Liverpool's No9' gets two-word response and X-rated gesture
Liverpool are interested in Alexander Isak as they look to add to their impressive line of summer transfers already, but Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has weighed in on the rumours Alan Shearer insists there is "no chance" that Alexander Isak will line up as Liverpool's number nine this season. The Reds are reportedly interested in bringing the Newcastle United forward to Anfield this summer, with some impressive transfers having already been confirmed by Arne Slot's side. Slot could see Isak as a straight replacement for the potentially departing Darwin Nunez, who has received interest from reigning Serie A champions Napoli. However, Liverpool are not the only ones keen on tempting Isak into a transfer, with Premier League rivals Arsenal long-term admirers of the Swede. The Magpies aren't keen on letting Isak depart St James' Park either, with the Carabao Cup winners said to be valuing his services north of £150million. Eddie Howe isn't ready for his most dangerous attacker to leave, and Isak has shown no signs of forcing an exit to another high-profile club. However, the Reds have showcased their own transfer pull this summer, bringing in some serious talent to join the squad for the 2025/26 season. During an episode of the Rest is Football podcast, Gary Lineker ran through Liverpool's latest signings for the future. He said: "Liverpool have been very impressive so far, I think, with the signings that they've done. They've just completed Florian Wirtz for £116million, so it's a lot of dough for Bayer Leverkeusen. But he's a wonderfully talented player." Rather prematurely, he then included Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez in the list, despite a transfer not yet being completed. Lineker continued: "Kerkez, Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth for around £40million, they join Jeremie Frimpong who signed a couple of weeks ago. All three are worth just under £200million." The conversation moved on to where Wirtz would fit into Liverpool's front line, where Shearer chimed in: "I think he'll be floating between the two. I think you'll have obviously Salah on one side and whoever on the other side, and it'll be him that'll be the 10, the forward or whatever, and they'll just sort of rotate and do what they have to do. I think that's where he'll play." Lineker then spotted an opportunity to tease the Newcastle icon about Isak potentially swapping black-and-white for red this summer, as he quipped: "And Isak as the nine? Right?" The 54-year-old made an X-rated gesture, putting up his middle finger on both hands while grinning, as he emphatically replied: "No chance!" Shearer is likely not ready or willing to part with Isak's services at his beloved Newcastle United, as the Swede helped the side to their first major trophy since 1955 – beating Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final – and then helped them qualify for the Champions League this upcoming season. Isak contributed 27 goals and six assists in 42 appearances for Newcastle in the 2024/25 season, and is regarded as a key part of Howe's squad. However, Liverpool have already broken the British transfer record once this season with Wirtz, and could be looking to flex that financial muscle in order to continue their recent success in the Premier League.
