Glamorous Instagram ‘astronaut', 22, exposed as FAKE after duping 150k followers with pics of her ‘training at Nasa'
A GLAMOROUS Instagram star who soared to fame by claiming she was an astronaut has been exposed as a fraud by NASA.
Laysa Peixoto, known to her 156,000 followers as @AstroLaysa, announced earlier this month she'd been picked for a career in space exploration.

The 22-year-old Brazilian claimed she earned a spot in the coveted 'Astronaut Class of 2025' with plans to fly to the Moon and Mars.
But just days after her triumphant Instagram reveal - complete with snaps of her in a NASA-branded jumpsuit and helmet - NASA itself came crashing into her orbit with a reality check.
The agency said bluntly in a statement: "This individual is not a NASA employee, principal investigator, or astronaut candidate.
"It would be inappropriate to claim NASA affiliation as part of this opportunity."
Peixoto, from the state of Minas Gerais, has told followers she was chosen by private space outfit Titans Space for a 2029 mission led by Veteran NASA astronaut Bill McArthur.
She gushed in a post on June 5: "It hasn't fully sunk in yet, but I feel immense gratitude for the entire journey I've taken so far and for everyone who has been and is a part of it."
She added: "It is a great joy to represent Brazil as an astronaut in such a decisive era of space exploration… It is an honour to carry the Brazilian flag with me as the first Brazilian woman to cross this frontier."
But NASA's no-nonsense response made it clear she had never trained with them and had only participated in a student workshop called L'SPACE - which it described as neither a job nor an internship.
Titans Space added to the confusion, confirming she had been accepted into a "candidate programme" - a far cry from a guaranteed seat on a rocket.

The company reportedly doesn't even hold a license to conduct manned spaceflights.
The programme Peixoto apparently joined is a $1million "Inaugural Astronauts" package promising a five-hour space trip and just three hours of zero gravity.
Questions around Peixoto's education also started brewing.
She had claimed to be earning a master's in Quantum Physics and Computing at Columbia University in New York City.
But the Ivy League school said there's no record of her.

Meanwhile, her former university in Brazil confirmed she was dismissed in 2023 for failing to re-enrol.
In the aftermath of her post, Peixoto's team said: "At no time is there a mention of NASA, or that it would be an astronaut from the agency.
"The post was never edited."
But eagled-eyed internet sleuths say otherwise - noting the post was edited and included photos heavy with NASA iconography.
The bizarre saga saw the "fake astronaut" at the center of social media jokes.
One user quipped on X: 'All I have to say is that anyone who saw a girl wearing a space camp jumpsuit claiming to be a lead astronaut researcher deserves to be fooled, when she's clearly just an ambitious and wealthy person.'

International Space Station too dangerous to stay in orbit, warns Musk
Elon Musk has called for the International Space Station (ISS) to be de-orbited 'within two years' amid concerns about the ageing facility's safety. The billionaire owner of SpaceX, which sends astronauts and cargo up to the ISS regularly for Nasa, said parts of the station were 'simply getting too old'. 'Even though SpaceX earns billions of dollars from transporting astronauts & cargo to the ISS, I nonetheless would like to go on record recommending that it be de-orbited within two years,' Mr Musk posted on X, his social media platform. The ISS is not scheduled to be brought back to Earth until 2030. Mr Musk's comments follow Nasa's decision to postpone a commercial mission to the ISS, which is jointly run by the US, Russia, Japan, Canada and the European Union, that was previously scheduled for Friday. Nasa said it was working with Russian space agency Roscosmos to investigate 'a new pressure signature' in a section of the station, called the Zvezda service module. 'Top safety risk' Zvezda hosts living quarters, life support systems, key electrical components and flight control and propulsion systems, according to Nasa's website. Leaks were first detected aboard the ISS in 2019. Nasa has described the leaks, which are caused by microscopic cracks in the station's aluminium-based structure, as a 'top safety risk'. Over time, the leaks have been growing worse – although experts say they are closer to a slow puncture in a tyre than a blowout. Nevertheless, it means valuable air is being lost from the station, which is dependent on supply runs from Earth for oxygen, food, water and other essentials. The cracks in the station, parts of which are now a quarter of a century old, are thought to be the result of general wear and tear to its largely aluminium-based structure. In orbit, the ISS undergoes a constant cycle of cooling and heating that causes what is known as 'high cyclic fatigue' in its metal components, where tiny cracks can emerge. This is because aluminium becomes harder but more brittle over time as it is flexed. Casey Handmer, an American physicist who previously worked at Nasa's jet propulsion laboratory, claimed that the problem was potentially far more serious than had been publicly acknowledged and could lead to a failure in orbit that put astronauts at serious risk. There are seven people currently aboard the ISS. 'We could wake up tomorrow and find, with zero warning, that it has failed catastrophically,' Mr Handmer wrote on X. 'Whether that means a leak slow enough to close some hatches, get the crew out or at least into safer parts of the station, is a roll of the dice. 'It could also depressurise in less than a minute.' On Thursday, Nasa said Russian cosmonauts had carried out repairs to the Zvezda section. However, the US space agency postponed the Axiom Mission 4 launch, which would have taken an Indian astronaut to the ISS, while investigations are carried out. 'The postponement of Axiom Mission 4 provides additional time for Nasa and Roscosmos to evaluate the situation and determine whether any additional troubleshooting is necessary,' Nasa said. The Axiom Mission 4 launch will be carried out by Mr Musk's SpaceX, using both the company's Falcon 9 rocket and a Dragon capsule. The billionaire threatened to decommission his Dragon capsules as part of a blazing public row with Donald Trump on social media. However, Mr Musk has since said he regrets some of his comments during the spat and there has been no sign of him following through on the SpaceX threat.

A special space robot called the Solar Orbiter has taken the first ever photos and videos of the Sun's south pole. The new pictures show a super hot, glowing part of the Sun. The Solar Orbiter was sent by the European Space Agency to take these pictures to help scientists learn more about how Earth's nearest star actually images will help scientists learn about the cycles of the Sun, which can sometimes turn from calm to stormy, which is important as it can affect things on Earth. Scientists are really excited about these pictures as they are the closest and most detailed images that have ever been taken of the Sun. "Today we reveal humankind's first-ever views of the Sun's pole" said Prof Carole Mundell, ESA's Director of Science. These pictures will help scientists learn about the changes in the Sun which go in cycles - sometimes the sun is calm and other times it gets stormy and sends out strong bursts of energy. Why do the Sun's poles and cycles matter? From Earth, the Sun looks like a bright, round ball but with special cameras, scientists can see it's actually very active, with swirling magnetic fields that twist and turn. These magnetic fields help decide when the Sun has a storm and when it's the new data and images scientists weren't able to track how these magnetic fields moved towards the Sun's poles, but now with the Solar Orbiter's help they can. This new learning should help scientists to build better computer models which could help predict the Sun's weather and that could help them know when to prepare for a solar storm. As solar storms can affect things like satellites, phone signals, and even power grids, this is a really helpful thing to know.
