Roma Legend Hits Back At Ex Inter Milan President: 'Didn't Like What He Said'

Yahoo04-03-2025

Roma icon Francesco Totti replied to Massimo Moratti after the ex-Inter Milan president declared he refused to sign him back in the day.
Speaking to Viva El Futbol via FCInterNews, Totti shed light on the matter, admitting he never considered leaving the Stadio Olimpico.
Totti's loyalty was never a subject of debate.
However, former Roma president Franco Sensi had to deal with substantial financial problems during his tenure.
Therefore, offloading Totti – the club's most prized asset at the time – was a reluctant option for the Giallorossi.
During his recent interview with Corriere della Sera, Massimo Moratti stated he had a chance to sign the Roma legend.
Moratti claimed that Sensi offered him Totti in tears, but he rejected the proposal out of respect for the capital-based club.
However, Moratti's statement didn't sit well with Il Pupone as he opened up on the situation.
'Berlusconi wanted me at Milan? Let's also say Moratti,' Totti said. 'He is a gentleman, one of the greatest in football.
'But I didn't really like his statements against the Sensi family.
'Sensi never wanted to sell me, he wouldn't hear of it: he was always adamant.
'So, if anything, it was the opposite – Moratti and Inter wanted me at all costs, but Sensi always said no to them.
'It was important to clarify this,' Totti concluded.
Francesco Totti spent his entire playing career at Roma, cementing his status as one of the club's all-time greats.
However, he was also one of Europe's most in-demand forwards.
Despite generating interest from many top clubs, he never turned his back on the Giallorossi.
Joining Inter would've likely been a wise decision, considering he only won one Scudetto with Roma.

Ex-Alabama QB Issues Blunt Warning to Ryan Grubb Before 2025 Season

Ex-Alabama QB Issues Blunt Warning to Ryan Grubb Before 2025 Season originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After just one season as the Alabama Crimson Tide offensive coordinator in 2024, Nick Sheridan was demoted on paper to the team's co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. In his place, Alabama brought in Ryan Grubb, who was the Seattle Seahawks' OC last year, but has a long-standing relationship with Bama head coach Kalen DeBoer. Advertisement Grubb was part of the coaching staff with DeBoer during their shared tenures at Washington, Fresno State, Eastern Michigan and Sioux Falls, which goes back to 2007. College football analysts believe Alabama's offense will take a step forward in 2025, and some might conclude that Grubb is a better coordinator than Sheridan. However, former Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron disagreed with such a stance while speaking with Chris Stewart and Trent Richardson on "The Dynasty." "Whenever you're the OC at Alabama," McCarron began. "You're going to catch hell, regardless. If you don't put up 35 to 50 points every game, it is what it is. ... I was with multiple OCs during my career at Alabama. It comes with the territory." Advertisement Last season, Alabama fell short of the program's high expectations in both its passing and rushing offense. The Crimson Tide ranked 56th in passing offense (236.4 yards per game) and 47th in rushing offense (173.8 ypg). Alabama scored 34.5 points per game, 21st in college football. While that's certainly a very good result, it's not quite good enough for a college football powerhouse that wants to be competing for national championships annually. Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer (left), offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb (right)© Gary Cosby Jr.-Tuscaloosa News / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images "I think the comfort level between Kalen (DeBoer) and Ryan Grubb probably settles him down as the head coach of this team. Just knowing what Ryan Grubb likes in certain situations." Advertisement Retaining Sheridan wasn't a given after Grubb was brought in. It only came with a later announcement that Sheridan would stay with the coaching staff and focus on quarterbacks. Sheridan was linked with DeBoer during their stints at the University of Indiana in 2019 when the former was the tight ends coach and the latter was the Hoosiers' quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator. McCarron makes it clear, even with all these relationships in play, results matter in Tuscaloosa. So, DeBoer, Grubb, Sheridan and the rest of the Crimson Tide staff must deliver offensively. In 2024, Alabama failed to qualify for the College Football Playoff and missing out on it again this season could put not just the coordinators on the heat seat, but DeBoer as well. Inter open talks with Fabregas to replace Inzaghi

Reports in Italy claim that Inter have already opened discussions with Como head coach Cesc Fabregas as the Nerazzurri search for a replacement for the recently-departed Simone Inzaghi. Inter confirmed on Tuesday that Inzaghi has left the club by mutual consent following a meeting with the club's senior management earlier in the day. Advertisement Inzaghi leaves exactly four years to the day after he was first appointed, and three days on from the 5-0 hammering by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final. epa12148236 Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi looks disappointed after receiving the runner-up medals of the UEFA Champions League final between Paris Saint-Germain and Internazionale Milano in Munich, Germany 31 May 2025. EPA-EFE/FILIP SINGER Inzaghi is expected to join Al-Hilal on an initial two-year contract until the summer of 2027, is expected to receive around €26m per season in wages, and is likely to be in charge in time for the start of the FIFA Club World Cup with his first game falling against Real Madrid on June 18. Inter approach Fabregas to replace Inzaghi Inter will also be involved in Club World Cup action from mid-June onwards, and will need to have a coach in the dugout at the start of the tournament, whether that be an interim or a permanent Inzaghi replacement. Advertisement According to reports from Sky Sport Italia, Inter have already opened talks with Como head coach Fabregas, who is understood to be the frontrunner for the Nerazzurri job. (Photo by) Fabregas has already turned down an opportunity to move to Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen to replace the new Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso, and was also targeted by Roma before the Giallorossi landed on Gian Piero Gasperini. Sky reports that Fabregas is tempted by Inter's approach, but that he has not yet given any indications over his future either way. The relevant parties are expected to remain in contact until a definitive decision is reached. Reports elsewhere suggest that Roberto De Zerbi, Patrick Vieira and Cristian Chivu are among the alternative options for the Nerazzurri.
