Government authorities have launched an extensive departure operation, with the General Directorate of Passports deploying staff and advanced technologies across all international air, land, and sea exit points. 'We have mobilized personnel and security systems to ensure an efficient and orderly exit process for pilgrims,' the directorate said. In the Medina Region, local authorities have started farewelling pilgrims departing via Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport. Many are spending time in the city after Hajj to visit the Prophet's Mosque before returning home. To streamline the process, a dedicated program coordinates transfers from residences to the airport, overseen by the regional Hajj and Visit Committee. The airport saw significant traffic during the pre-Hajj phase, welcoming 719,400 pilgrims, nearly half of all air-arriving Hajj pilgrims this year on 1,910 flights from 196 cities across 53 countries. That figure represented 60 percent of all Hajj-related flights arriving at Saudi airports this season.

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah announced the launch of the Umrah season for the Hijri year 1447, starting Tuesday, June 10, with the opening of visa issuance for those coming from outside the Kingdom. The ministry confirmed that Umrah permits for the foreign pilgrims will be issued from Wednesday, June 11, through the 'Nusuk' app, the unified digital platform for providing government services. The app enables users to book and obtain permits easily, in addition to offering a range of digital services that enhance the experience of Umrah pilgrims. This marks the beginning of a new season that continues efforts to facilitate the journey of the Umrah pilgrims and realize the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030. During the last Umrah season, Saudi Arabia had stopped issuance of Umrah permits in April 2025 and it had set April 29 as the last date for the departure of Umrah pilgrims as it coincided with the beginning of the Hajj Season 2025. The ministry noted that technical and operational preparations for the new season had begun early, in coordination with relevant authorities, to ensure smooth procedures and continuous improvement. Saudi Arabia will resume issuing Umrah visas on Tuesday, June 10, paving the way for international pilgrims to return to the holy cities of Mecca and Medina—just days after concluding one of the safest and most efficiently managed Hajj seasons. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah earlier confirmed the start of the new Umrah season, noting that the first wave of foreign pilgrims is expected to arrive on Wednesday, June 11. According to the ministry's official calendar, visa issuance will begin on June 10 (14 Dhul Hijjah 1446). Umrah companies and international agents were instructed to finalize their service agreements no later than May 27 (29 Dhul Qadah 1446). The announcement comes on the heels of a successful Hajj season that saw participation from more than 1.6 million pilgrims from around the world. Unlike Hajj, Umrah is not restricted to specific dates and can be performed year-round. The upcoming Umrah cycle will extend into 2026 (1447H). Further updates are expected in the coming months regarding pilgrim quotas, travel guidelines, and health protocols. Saudi Arabia traditionally suspends Umrah visa issuance several weeks before the Hajj season to ensure the smooth organization and execution of the annual pilgrimage.
