Conspiracy of regressive forces to reinstate monarchy will be foiled, says Oli
He urged people not to dream of reinstatement of monarchy, the system that the Nepali people have already abolished.
Oli, who is also the chairman of the ruling Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist), made the remarks while inaugurating the 10th national general convention of the National Youth Association, the youth wing of the party, on Friday.
Kathmandu, May 23 (PTI) Nepal Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli has said that the ruling CPN-UML would remain at the front to foil all kinds of regressive activities and protect citizen's rights and sovereignty of the country.
Referring to former chancellor of Nepal Academy Jagman Gurung that he spread a 'baseless rumour' that former king Gyanendra Shah's birth chart showed he would return to power, Oli said, 'It is useless to dwell on former king's horoscope, but the fate of citizens. The astrologers can observe my birth chart. The royal crown cannot be imagined any more in Nepal.' He called on the pro-monarchists 'not to dream when we, the people fighting against monarchy, are still alive'.
Oli made the remarks in the wake of fresh call of series of agitations by pro-monarchist Rastriya Prajatantra Party starting from May 29 with the twin aims of reinstating monarchy and to establish a Hindu nation in the country.
The prime minister called upon his party's youth wing to come forward with preparation to curb such untoward efforts.
According to the prime minister, the CPN-UML and all patriotic forces could work in unison to expose such baseless rumours. PTI SBP GSP GSP

People disappointed with announcement of B'desh polls in April 2026: BNP
The statement said BNP's national standing committee, in an emergency virtual meeting, reiterated its proposal to hold the election by December this year, taking into consideration Ramadan, secondary and higher secondary or equivalent examinations, and weather conditions. 'People's victory was achieved through the immense sacrifices made by students and the masses during the July uprising. But the unwarranted delay in arranging the election has disappointed and angered the people,' Dhaka Tribune quoted the party as saying in a statement. Dhaka, Jun 7 (PTI) People are 'disappointed' by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus's announcement to hold elections in April 2026, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) said on Saturday, reiterating the party's demand for polls by December this year. The meeting, presided over by BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, was convened following the chief adviser's announcement that ignored the aspirations of a nation striving to reclaim its right to vote through prolonged struggles. 'The people of this country, deprived of their basic voting rights for almost a decade and a half, have continued their struggle to restore democracy through voting, despite being disappeared, murdered, imprisoned, injured, and tortured,' it said. 'The meeting believes the people of the country may be rightly concerned about the possibility of a free and fair election under this government.' The BNP standing committee observed that holding the election in early April could lead to complications, both due to adverse weather conditions and the challenges of conducting campaigns and election-related activities during Ramadan, which may ultimately be used as grounds for deferring the polls. It said the chief adviser's address did not provide any clear justification as to why holding the election by December would not be feasible. It said Yunus in his speech touched upon issues like ports and corridors — topics that did not fall within the interim government's three mandates – justice, reform and elections. 'The meeting expressed anger at his choice of words in the speech, which crossed the limits of political decorum,' the statement said. Yunus, who took charge after the ouster of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League regime in August last year, said the interim government's key responsibility was to hold a clean, peaceful, festive, and inclusive election. Yunus's announcement comes amid mounting pressure from former prime minister Khaleda Zia's BNP and several other groups to hold the election by December. The student-led NCP and several rightwing groups, however, said the polls must wait until the 'reforms' and 'justice' were done. PTI PY PY This report is auto-generated from PTI news service. Proposed transport aggregator guidelines aim at supporting local cab drivers: Goa govt
Panaji, Amid protests by a section of taxi operators regarding the draft guidelines on cab aggregators, the Goa government on Saturday stated the proposed rules would help boost business for local taxi operators. Goa's Transport Aggregator Guidelines, 2025, aim to regulate app-based taxi services, ensuring driver welfare and affordable rides. These guidelines require aggregators to possess a valid license from the Goa government and comply with operational and legal stipulations. In an exclusive interaction with PTI, Director of Transport P. Pravimal Abhishek stated that the draft guidelines stipulate that any aggregator wishing to operate in Goa must use vehicles registered in the state and employ only drivers who hold a valid badge issued in Goa. "Therefore, there is no question of any outside taxi or drivers coming in and taking over the traditional business of Goans. These guidelines aim to protect and improve the livelihoods of local taxi drivers," he said. The assurance was prompted by protests against the proposed guidelines, with taxi operators claiming they would negatively impact their business. These operators have been lobbying against the draft by meeting with local MLAs. Abhishek highlighted that the guidelines promote a 3G Model: Goan Taxis, Goan Drivers, and Government Fares. "We have received over 1,600 suggestions from various stakeholders across society, and the tone of these suggestions has been largely positive and constructive. Some of the feedback includes important recommendations that we will consider once the consultation period ends," he added. He further stated that the objective of the guidelines is to ensure public convenience by enabling taxi bookings through an app, while also protecting the earnings of drivers. "The app-based system will provide convenience to the public and offer complete protection to the earnings of taxi operators and drivers," Abhishek stressed. The draft guidelines have been placed in the public domain for feedback until June 30. "We will evaluate all suggestions on their merit. We have received considerable feedback from both the public and taxi operators," he said, adding that taxi operators had given a constructive feedback.

Eid namaz barred at Srinagar's Jama Masjid, CM Omar Abdullah says, ‘learn to trust our people'
Authorities in Srinagar on Saturday did not allow Eid-ul-Adha prayers at the Eidgah ground and the historic Jama Masjid in the old city. The Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid, which manages the mosque, issued a statement saying, 'Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar deeply regrets to inform that the authorities have once again disallowed Eid-ul-Adha prayers at the Eidgah as well as at the historic Jama Masjid in Srinagar,' reported news agency PTI. The release stated that the gates of the mosque were closed and police personnel were deployed outside. The statement further said that even the early morning Fajr prayers were not allowed. Chief minister Omar Abdullah expressed disappointment over the restrictions. Speaking to reporters, he said, 'While we are celebrating Eid, unfortunately, once again, permission was denied to offer namaz in Srinagar's iconic Jama Masjid. I don't know the basis of these decisions, but we need to learn to trust our people.' Referring to recent public solidarity, he said, 'These are the same people who came out to protest against the Pahalgam terrorist attack... The government should think about allowing namaz in the historic Jama Masjid.' 'I hope this Eid brings better days ahead for the Muslims of India and the world. I hope it brings peace and strengthens brotherhood.' the CM added. Meanwhile, Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq claimed he was placed under house arrest. In a post on X, he expressed strong criticism of the restrictions. 'Eid Mubarak! Yet again, Kashmir wakes up to the sad reality: no Eid prayers at Eidgah, and Jama Masjid locked down for the 7th straight year. I, too, have been detained at my home,' he wrote. 'In a Muslim-majority region, Muslims are deprived of their fundamental right to pray -- even on their most important religious occasion celebrated across the world!' he added. Taking a sharp dig at both the authorities and the ruling government, he said, 'What a shame on those who rule over us, and on those elected by the people who choose to remain silent as our rights are trampled over, again and again.'
