Gangsters clash over TV remote in Nabha jail, 1 hurt
A clash broke out at the high-security zone of the new district jail in Nabha on Wednesday, reportedly over a TV remote, leaving one inmate critically injured. As per information, four gangsters – Harpreet Singh alias Happy of Ferozepur, Jaspreet Singh, Shamsher Singh, and Chamkaur Singh, all belonging to the 'Bambiha gang', got into an altercation over the channel playing on TV. While Happy wanted to watch the live telecast from Hemkund Sahib, a revered gurdwara in Uttarakhand, the others wanted to listen to Punjabi songs. The matter soon escalated with the other gangsters attacking Happy with a spoon and a kada, inflicting a deep cut on his nose. He was rushed to the Nabha civil hospital, where doctors recommended consultation of a surgeon as the wound ran deep. However, due to the absence of a surgeon, jail authorities referred him to Government Rajindra Hospital in Patiala, a tertiary healthcare institute, for further treatment. Jail superintendent Inderjit Singh Kahlon said all the inmates involved were co-accused in various criminal cases, including murder, and have been lodged in jail for several years. 'They are old associates, so the injured inmate refused to file any formal complaint or seek action against the attackers. However, we have informed the police about the incident from our end,' he added.

Assam teen arrested for death threat to city rapper and demanding one crore extortion
Navi Mumbai: An 18-year-old college student was arrested in Assam for sending a death threat message to city rapper Mohammad Bilal Shaikh, also known as Emiway Bantai, and demanding Rs 1 crore in extortion. The student, Arnav Ramen Kumar Haloi, claimed to be Goldy Brar, an aide of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and the alleged mastermind of the 2022 murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala. The threat message was sent on May 25, coinciding with the release of an online teaser for a music video in tribute to Moose Wala. ACP Mayur Bhujbal said that Haloi, a first-year student from Sonitpur district, Assam, was arrested by the NRI coastal police team on June 1, six days after an FIR was registered for the death threat and extortion demand. Haloi previously sent threat messages to two famous singers in Bihar and Punjab, but they did not lodge police complaints, which may have emboldened him to target rapper Shaikh. He does not have a criminal record and claimed he was not associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. This is being verified by obtaining his mobile CDR details. Haloi stated that his intention was to make quick money by sending death threat messages to extort large sums from famous rappers and singers. An FIR was registered at the NRI coastal police station on May 27 by rapper Shaikh's manager, Pooja Kuila, who received the death threat message on May 25. This was just hours before Emiway Bantai released a music video in tribute to Moose Wala, as a teaser was posted online. The threat message was received while Shaikh was recording a song at his Seawoods studio on the morning of May 25. The message, claiming to be from Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar, warned that rapper Emiway Bantai would be killed if he failed to pay Rs one crore within 24 hours. The message also mentioned US-based Rohit Godara, another alleged key member of Bishnoi's gang, suspected to be involved in Moose Wala's murder. ACP Bhujbal stated that the message sender's mobile tower location was traced to Sonitpur district in Assam. The NRI coastal police team went to Assam on May 30 and sought the help of local police to find Haloi's residence address, from where he was arrested on May 31. He was produced before Dhekiajuli court in Sonitpur district, Assam, and his transit remand was obtained. Haloi was brought to Navi Mumbai on June 1 and produced before Belapur JMFC court, which remanded him to police custody until Thursday. An extension of his police custody for two days was obtained as the police are retrieving his previous text messages, which he might have deleted after sending threat messages to others as well.

Opposition slams AAP over appointment of key posts to Delhi leaders in Punjab
CHANDIGARH: A political row has erupted in Punjab after a series of appointments made by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led government drew critisim from the opposition. The appointment of Shaleen Mitra, an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to former Delhi Cabinet Minister Satyendar Jain, as the OSD to Punjab Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh. This comes just days after two other Delhi-based party leaders, Reena Gupta and Deepak Chauhan, were appointed as chairpersons of the Punjab Pollution Control Board and Punjab Large Industrial Development Board, respectively. The opposition questioned the government over these appointments and claimed that the appointment of individuals from outside the state on important administrative roles is harming the Punjabi pride. They allege that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has "surrendered Punjab to the Delhi leadership" Mitra was also the project manager of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. A photograph of Mitra sitting with Punjab Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh in a meeting went viral yesterday. Last month, Gupta, who was the spokesperson of AAP Delhi and former secretary of the Delhi unit of the party, became the first woman to be appointed as the chairperson of the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB). She had earlier worked with Rajya Sabha Member Sandeep Pathak. Both appointments had sparked a political furore in the state.
