Bitcoin dad who 'threw away' fortune having fight turned into US TV show
A dad who 'threw away' a £635M Bitcoin fortune is having story turned into US TV show.
Unlucky James Howells, 39, was one of the first Bitcoin miners back in 2009 after he learnt about the cryptocurrency from internet forums.
James, of Newport, Wales, created 8,000 coins and stored the access code on a 2.5-inch hard drive in a drawer at his home office.

It has since laid in a rubbish tip run by Newport Council in Wales and he has spent years fighting for the right to retrieve it.
James then assembled a team of experts to take Newport council to Cardiff High Court to force an excavation as a 'last resort' - but the claim was thrown out and an appeal failed.

Lebul, a Los Angeles-based entertainment company, has now acquired the rights to develop James' unique story into a 'live-action tech thriller' TV series called The Buried Bitcoin: The Real-Life Treasure Hunt of James Howells.
The series will be venturing through James' journey to recover the hard drive while facing "numerous practical and bureaucratic obstacles".
Lebul's Reese Van Allen said: "This isn't just content. "It's a live-action tech thriller with nearly a billion dollars on the line, and Lebul is proud to bring it to the world."

NYC influencer accuses scandal-plagued Brandy Melville of ripping off her logo on new t-shirt: ‘They're so shameless'
A Big Apple fashion designer is accusing the scandal-plagued fast-fashion chain Brandy Melville — worn by pop star Ariana Grande and other celebs — of ripping off her western-themed logo. 'Brandy Melville stole my logo and put it all over a bunch of shirts, and we're doing some investigative research today to see if they're in store and, unfortunately, buy them, so I can get them to my lawyer,' influencer Emma DiMarco, the founder of the Brooklyn-based vintage and apparel brand 'Kissing Cowboys,' said in a May 31 Instagram video. The clip then shows DiMarco, 29, inside of Brandy Melville's Union Square location, pulling one of its $21 red T-shirts – which bears the words 'Kissing Cowboys' in white font and a black-colored silhouette of a cowboy – off a hanger. Advertisement 'I'm, like, actually speechless. This is so insane,' DiMarco continued in the video, which has amassed nearly 175,000 views. Brandy Melville, which launched in Italy in the 1990s before coming to the US in 2009, has repeatedly been accused of fostering a toxic environment — racial and size discrimination included — among its workers, according to reports. Advertisement Former employees blew the whistle on workplace conditions and toxic culture in a 2024 HBO film, 'Brandy Hellville & the Cult of Fast Fashion.' 3 Emma DiMarco claims Brandy Melville ripped off the design she created for this flyer, and posted on Instagram last year. Kissing Cowgirls/ Instagram 3 Brandy Melville removed the $21 t-shirt off its website this week. Helayne Seidman DiMarco claims the popular fashion brand has now victimized her as well, by stealing and profiting off of the design she created for a vintage pop-up she hosted in Brooklyn last year, which remains visible on her public Instagram profile. Advertisement 'They must have screenshotted the flyer and removed the cigarette from the cowboy's mouth … but the space between the letters, the letters, and the space between the cowboy's head — it's all the same,' DiMarco fumed. 'They're so shameless — that's the part that makes me really angry, is that they're basically like, 'What the f–k are you going to do about it?' DiMarco told The Post. 3 'They're so shameless – that's the part that makes me really angry,' DiMarco, who sells her own 'Kissing Cowboy'-brand merch, told The Post. Brandy Melville did not respond to The Post's requests for comment.

Taiwan YA Content Gets Boost as PTS XS, Third Culture, S11 Launch Drama Lab (EXCLUSIVE)
Taiwan's burgeoning youth content sector is getting a major boost as international players join forces to nurture the next generation of Chinese-language storytellers. Third Culture Content (TCC), the Los Angeles and Seoul-based production company, has partnered with Taiwan's S11 Partners and PTS XS to launch 'All Star,' a Chinese-language incubator program targeting creators of young adult content. More from Variety Middle East-Taiwan Action-Comedy 'Masala Boba' Reunites Kleos, Light House at Cannes Market (EXCLUSIVE) Taiwan's Vie Vision Pictures Boards Cross-Cultural Action Comedy 'Demon Hunters' at Cannes Market (EXCLUSIVE) Taiwan Cinema Takes Global Ambitions to Hong Kong FilMart With Diverse Features and Series The initiative, officially dubbed 'All Star: Teens Drama Development Lab,' kicks off this summer with applications opening June 4. The program represents a strategic play to capture the increasingly valuable Gen Z and Alpha generation markets through authentic local storytelling with global appeal. In a two-phase structure, 30 selected Taiwanese creators will first participate in industry-led masterclasses before four standout projects advance to a six-month development lab working alongside Hollywood veterans. Select projects could potentially move into international co-production in 2026. High-caliber Hollywood mentors include Amy Rardin (producer, Marvel's 'Strange Academy' and 'Echo'), Jessica O'Toole ('American Girl' series, 'Invisible Sister'), and BAFTA winner Debbie Moon ('Wolfblood'). The program also offers an NT$260,000 ($8,600) script development grant per selected project. 'As the YA genre continues to grow globally, it remains relatively nascent in Asia,' said Janice Chua and Sean Dulake, TCC co-founders. 'This partnership offers a unique opportunity to explore and innovate within this space, combining the rich cultural nuances of Taiwan with our expertise in creating universally relatable stories.' The lab builds on established industry relationships, as TCC's Chua and S11's Cora Yim previously collaborated on 'Emerge,' another Taiwan-based development program that incubated five TV series and six features between 2022 and 2024. 'Adolescence is a powerful threshold – full of questions, change, and possibility,' said Yim. 'We're honored to partner with PTS XS and Third Culture Content on this teen drama development lab, giving young Taiwanese storytellers the tools to shape their own teen drama narratives.' PTS XS, which launched in 2024 as Taiwan's first cross-media platform exclusively for viewers aged 3-18, views the collaboration as strategic positioning in the competitive Asian youth content market. 'We are deeply grateful to our partners at Third Culture Content and S11 for their collaboration and expertise,' said Yu Pei Hua of PTS XS. 'Their support is instrumental in bringing this vision to life.' The initiative represents the latest in a series of development programs led by the partners. Yim previously drove Fox Creative Lab in 2018, while Chua and Dulake currently serve as faculty leads for CAPCA (Canada-Asia Pacific Co-Production Accelerator), which develops TV projects for North American distribution. Leading Mexican Post-Production Houses Chemistry and Semillero Join Forces in Guadalajara (EXCLUSIVE)
Leading Mexico City post-production house Chemistry has joined forces with Guadalajara-based Semillero Estudios, in a bid to tap the state of Jalisco's 40% cash rebate incentive and diversity of locations. 'Jalisco is experiencing an important moment for national cinema, and we couldn't stay on the sidelines,' said Chemistry head Andrés Martínez-Ríos, adding: 'With the recent state incentives for film production, opening a studio here became an attractive and exciting opportunity.' More from Variety 'Pulp Fiction's' Maria de Madeiros Receives Tribute at Guadalajara's Portugal Country of Honor Celebrations Guadalajara Film Festival's LGBTQ+ Themed Premio Maguey Touts Series, Animated Feature for the First Time 40th Guadalajara Film Festival Opens With Mexico's First Stop-Motion Animated Feature 'I Am Frankelda' as It Launches New Genre Sidebar Martínez-Ríos and Semillero Studio's Álvaro Arce broke the news as the 40th Guadalajara International Film Festival (FICG) opened on June 6. 'Chemistry has had a strong presence in the film industry of Guadalajara for a long time. We've been part of the festival for over 15 years, supporting various local productions through [FICG's pix-in-post program] Guadalajara Construye, such as 'Martínez,' and nationally significant projects like 'Chivas, la película.' 'The idea had been simmering, but we needed a creative and local partner. That's where Semillero came in – a leading sound design and music recording studio in the state. We had the great experience of collaborating on several projects, including the ones mentioned above. The partnership was very organic, and within months we finalized the alliance to now offer a real and high-quality post-production service for image and sound to production companies and platforms looking to produce in Jalisco,' Martínez-Ríos told Variety. Jalisco is the only state in Mexico that offers this generous incentive. It's available to producers who have been established in the state for at least three years or to those who co-produce with a Jalisco-based producer. Other audiovisual companies are said to be looking to open offices in Jalisco as a result. Some high-profile projects filming in the state include Apple TV+'s 'Acapulco' which shoots in Puerto Vallarta and Netflix's 'The Manny.' FICG opening film 'I Am Frankelda' was also produced in the state in collaboration with the Guadalajara City-based Polar Studio. On the national level, Mexico offers a 16% VAT rebate for international productions. Founded in 2013 by Arce, a music producer, sound designer and composer, Semillero specializes in music composition and production, sound design and immersive mixing for film, television, OTTs and any audiovisual format. Among its many credits are the International Emmy-winning 'Sr. Ávila' for HBO Latin America, Lorenzo Hagerman's lauded documentary 'Flamingos' and Pablo Olmos' multi-prized horror pic, 'Rendez-Vous.' Boasting 15 years in the biz, Chemistry offers state-of-the-art tools and workflows designed to bring stories to life—from dailies to final deliveries, including color grading. Said Martínez-Ríos: 'We're very excited to begin this new adventure. Our partnership with Semillero strengthens us even more and allows us to provide better services to the local industry, as well as to national and international productions.' FICG runs over June 6-14.
