Falls and medicine safety raise concerns at Camberley care home
Concerns over "unwitnessed falls" and unsafe medicine management have been raised by inspectors at a Surrey care home.A report by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) found there had been a "breach of legal regulations" in relation to medicines at the Kings Lodge care home in Camberley, adding that medicines were not always managed safely.Inspectors who visited the home in Kings Ride following safeguarding concerns also found "there had been a high number of incidents including unwitnessed falls". They rated the home as "requires improvement" overall and particularly in the areas of safety and leadership.Aura Care Living Ltd, which runs the home, has been contacted for comment.
The CQC inspectors said there were 73 people using the service at the time of their visit, which was a responsive assessment due to safeguarding concerns received.They said: "Processes to help ensure that risks to people were assessed and mitigated were not always effective."However, they rated the home "good" for being effective, caring and responsive."Overall, people were cared for by staff who were kind and caring and knew them well," they said. "The home was clean, fresh and well-maintained."
Although staffing levels were rated adequate to meet people's needs, on the day inspectors visited "staff in one of the units seemed rushed"."Most relatives thought there were not always enough staff on duty," they added.Inspectors also said the home was developed to meet people's needs, including those living with dementia, and that there was a range of activities available which were person-centred.While some relatives told inspectors they thought there were not enough staff, another said: "I can't speak more highly of the Kings Lodge staff. They are all so kind."

Gloucestershire cheese rolling prize is served to rough sleepers
A wheel of Double Gloucester won in the annual traditional cheese rolling races in Gloucestershire is to be served up to rough sleepers in north Ava Sender Logan, 20, managed to bag the 7lb (3kg) cheese in the women's race last month by tumbling down the almost vertical Cooper's Hill in London student, who has donated her "delicious" prize to the Refugee Community Kitchen, said she is "really happy people can try it".Sam Jones, the charity's co-founder, said: "We are deeply indebted to Ava for putting her life and limbs on the line to get the cheese." The Refugee Community Kitchen supports displaced people in northern France and homeless people in London and Edinburgh. Miss Sender Logan, who volunteers for the kitchen, said donating her prize cheese was a "full-circle moment". "It's really sweet," she said."The cheese has travelled from Gloucestershire to Oxford to London to the kitchen."The biochemistry student, who was the fastest down the 1:2 gradient, said she did not remember most of her downhill journey, and was stunned when she won."I was trying to hold my head, stay on my feet as much as I could, but there's only so much you can do," she said."I was bruised, I was battered but there were no broken bones." Bloom stars as a retired boxer looking to make a comeback in the unreleased movie The Cut - which began filming in 2023. 5 And the plot centres around Bloom's character losing a dangerous amount of weight in order to fight again. The British cinema legend revealed he lost 52lb - three and a half STONE - before filming had even started. He told People: 'I literally thought I was gonna die.' Bloom was living off a diet of tuna and cucumber and had to actually film scenes from the end of the film at the start. Director Sean Ellis said to Variety: 'Your brain is starved of calories, basically. 'It was going to be impossible for him to work while dieting. So, he came to us at his lightest, and then he starts to eat. "So that meant that we had to shoot the film [with] the ending first and the beginning of the movie at the end. "Over the 25 days that we were shooting, he was putting on the calories. And then it's edited in reverse.' Bloom, now 48, added: 'I was more surprised about the mental aspect of [it], like the sleep deprivation, and not the depleted calories. 'There's a lot going on in your brain living in that headspace for a while was very challenging.' Sam Thompson left gobsmacked as he's surprised by huge Hollywood A-lister during his 280-mile endurance challenge Even Bloom's co-star Caitriona Balfe - who plays his on-screen wife in the film - was stunned by his gaunt face and body.
