Exact date you need to upgrade your phone as major mobile brand SHUTS DOWN after 15 years
USERS of a huge mobile brand have until June 30 to upgrade their phones.
After that date, customers will no longer be able to download or install Android updates, making their device more susceptible to cyber attacks.

LG announced in 2021 that it was closing its smartphone division with the South Korean tech giant preparing to shut down for good at the end of this month.
Its first Android phone was released more than 15 years ago - although LG's roots in mobile go back even further.
LG once held the crown as the world's third-bestselling mobile brand.
But rivals emerged including Oppo and Xiaomi, as well as long-established competitors such as Samsung.

Despite the impending closure, the company continued to push out important Android updates to existing users.
Bosses committed to do it for three years.

But that time is now up with the last update due to come out on June 30, marking the very end for LG's mobile business.
In a statement, LG said it would like to "extend our heartfelt gratitude towards our customers who have loved and supported LG Electronics mobile products".

The company added: "After the termination date, you will no longer be able to use the software upgrade services.
"If you wish to use the services, we strongly recommend upgrading your software before June 30, 2025.
"Furthermore, as we will no longer provide application updates, you will not be able to download default applications deleted upon initialization."

LG's mobiles have all long been discontinued so you can no longer buy them.
And now you won't get software updates either.
Security updates are the key part, as experts at LG will no longer plug any loopholes that are uncovered, meaning hackers will be on the look out to exploit them.
So, the safest option is to upgrade to a newer handset.
Users have been reacting to the final curtain call for LG's mobile devices.

"The loss of HTC and LG phones really stagnated the market," one user wrote on Reddit. "I loved the different things they tried. A leather back to a phone!"

Is there some way to fix it myself? — Lorraine O'Connor Answer If possible, try to check that it's up to speed with the latest Android update from Samsung. You can check this by going into 'settings' and then 'software update'. It should tell you what version you are and whether you need to update it. (Don't worry, updates are free.) Sometimes an older version of a phone's interface can cause it to glitch a little bit. If that doesn't fix it, try shutting the phone off completely for a minute or so and turning it back on. I know this sounds obvious, but most of us never actually switch our phones off – we just send them to sleep or into 'do not disturb' mode at night while they charge. If that still doesn't work, you might consider doing a compete reset of the phone. Again, you can do this in settings by choosing 'general management' and then 'reset' (or just do a search in settings for the word 'reset'). It's very important to back things up before you do this, though. You'll have to do this individually twice (at least); once for WhatsApp (if you use this) and once for everything else. To back up WhatsApp on a Samsung phone, you need to allow chat backup to Google Drive within WhatsApp's own settings on your phone. For the rest, you can go to 'settings', then 'accounts and backup' and then, under Google Drive, 'back up data'. If you want to be extra safe, you'd also back up on Samsung's Cloud, again under 'settings' and then 'accounts and backup'. If none of that works, then it's a judgment call on whether it's worth going to get it looked at by a repair shop or getting a new one. If was a sub-€300 phone, it might not be worth repairing from a cost perspective.

OnePlus Pad 3 1st impressions: can an Android tablet finally replace my laptop?
On-fire tech brand OnePlus has launched OnePlus Pad 3, a flagship tablet fusing supercharged hardware with clever software and AI features. It comes hot on the heels of the OnePlus Pad 2 which I said was 'ideal for streaming TV shows, watching movies, reading e-books and magazines and browsing websites'. It was one of a number of tablets we reviewed last year that hoped to challenge the dominance of Apple iPad in the market. Huawei matched Apple in terms of hardware on its MatePad Pro 12.2. We said the Paper Matte Edition had a superior display to every other tablet including Apple's flagship iPad Pro in our review. However, hardware is only half the story on tablets and apart from the excellent free GoPaint app that rivals the iPad-only Procreate app, Huawei's MatePad Pro fell way short of what iPad offers in software. That's because of the range of iPad optimised apps which makes it easy for Apple. We also reviewed the Samsung Galaxy Tab S10+ which is a similar size to OnePlus Pad 3 but costs almost double the price. It was probably the most complete Android tablet I've tested yet but did not offer enough compelling features to challenge Apple's flagship iPad Pro. The OnePlus Pad 2 was probably closest to the mid-range iPad Air series. It was "a device with zippy performance, a bright and colourful display, powerful speakers and outstanding battery life. And it was powered by last year's high-end Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip along with a decent 12GB of RAM". Now along comes the OnePlus Pad 3 and I've decided to test it for an upcoming full review by ditching my Windows laptop for a couple of weeks to see if the Android tablet can replace the notebook for both work and play. In the meantime, here are my first impressions… The OnePlus Pad 3 sure looks the part. Measuring less than 6mm thin, the device has a metal unibody design to ensure it is super strong and bend resistant. It weighs just 675g so it's light enough to take everywhere with you. My review unit is a hue that the company calls Storm Blue. The tablet's large, pin-sharp, 13.2in LCD display comes with 3.4k resolution, 12-bit colour depth and pixel density of 315 PPI (pixels per inch). It's perfect for displaying everything from the latest blockbuster movie to your latest work presentation. And its unique 7:5 aspect ratio means multitasking is an absolute breeze. Eight symmetrically placed speakers - four woofers and four tweeters - add to the immersive media consumption experience. Under the hood is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite, the most powerful mobile system-on-a-chip on the market, coupled with up to 16GB that should be all the power you need for high-end productivity or intensive gaming. The model I'm testing only has 12GB of RAM but I haven't noticed any lag or stutter - it is breezing through everything I throw at it. Battery life is rated at up to 17 hours which is almost double some rival tablets. Overall, the new OnePlus Pad 3 combines a premium hardware and software experience at an iPad Air price point. I'm looking forward to testing the machine out fully in the coming days and weeks. I'm using it with the firm's latest Smart Keyboard. It seamlessly connects to the tablet using the built-in pogo pins and no Bluetooth connection is needed. The accompanying stand can be adjusted to a range of angles, just like a laptop. OnePlus Pad 3 is on sale at for €599 (12GB/256GB) and €699 (16GB/512GB). The Stylo accessory is €99, the Smart Keyboard is €169 and the folio case is €59. Contactless payments up, ATM transactions down
Analysis of Bank of Ireland customer behaviour during the first three months of this year shows that contactless payments rose while ATM usage was down compared to the same period in last year. eCommerce contactless transactions including digital wallets, Apple Pay and Google Pay, increased by 3%, with contactless 'tap and go' payments rising 1% compared to the first quarter of 2024. Over 3 million eCommerce and 'tap and go' contactless payments took place on 28 February, making it the busiest day during the first quarter. While contactless payment levels increased, the number of ATM transactions fell 11% compared with Q1 last year, partly driven by the busy Easter period not falling in the first quarter this year. The research found that biometric logins to the mobile banking app continue to grow in popularity, up 41% for Q1 compared to the same three months in 2024. It said that 12 million biometric logins were recorded in total during January, February, and March 2025, whilst logins via the traditional '3 of 6' PIN method fell by 10%. On Thursday, 27 March over 1.5 million digital banking logins were recorded across Bank of Ireland's iOS and Android mobile apps, the busiest day in Q1. Digital logins to the Mobile app increased by 1% for Q1 2025 from Q1 2024, despite Easter coming later this year - the busiest day in Q1 2024 was during Easter holidays on Holy Thursday. "While cash remains popular with many, it's clear that customers are embracing seamless and secure ways to manage their finances, with a shift towards digital-first banking behaviours," said BOI Chief Operating Officer Ciarán Coyle. "The continued growth in digital banking usage highlights the evolving preferences of many of our customers, who are increasingly choosing the speed, convenience, and security of our mobile banking and payment services."
