PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (WATE) — Pigeon Forge is a busy place no matter the time of year. As we get closer to the warm summer months, events like Rod Run and other festivals and parades become more common place.
Places like the Valley Forge Inn on the Parkway benefit from the increased volume of people this time of year.

'This is probably the best time of year for us because we just came off our break time, our slower time,' said Valley Forge Inn employee Daniel. 'Like I said, it's one of the best times for us. Money wise, it's great.'
Thousands have already descended on Pigeon Forge and with Rod Run less than a week away it's expected to get even busier. Daniel has been with Valley Forge Inn for nine years. He said in his time at the hotel he has seen changes.
'There's been a few changes especially with some of the parking guidelines and selling and stuff like that,' he said. 'That's definitely impacted it a lot.'
Adria Boyd from Kingsport said she and her family come down every year and they have also seen immense changes in the area.
Definitely a lot more busy. There's a lot more to do obviously, way more attractions, obviously The Island was a big thing and that changed over time,' Boyd said. 'Definitely a lot busier.'
122-mile pipeline expansion through East Tennessee approved
Visitors we spoke with ranged from the Tri-Cities to Alabama as they take in everything Pigeon Forge has to offer.
'It's my son's birthday next week. The beach was over crowded and we just wanted to try something new.' Alabama native Hallie said. 'We enjoy it, this is their second time coming and they're able to do mostly everything. I feel safer coming up here than I do at the beach. We've walked almost all the way down that way and all the way up this way today and hadn't been scared or nothing.'
The Valley Forge Inn is one of the last few family owned hotels in the area. Daniel told 6 News it's always great to see the people who make return trips year in and year out.
'We definitely have a lot of people come stay with us just because of our location,' he explained. 'The Island is right behind us and we're dead in the center of town. So I think a lot of people choose us for that reason. We definitely have a lot of returning guests and they've become like family to us really.'

Couple Went on Cruise to Celebrate 25th Wedding Anniversary. They Were Shocked When They Saw Daughter Onboard (Exclusive)

To celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary, Daniel and Melissa Figueroa booked an eight-day cruise to the Bahamas. They were "disappointed" when their daughter, Shailyn Torres, told them she couldn't join them because the cruise sold out In reality, Shailyn and her husband had already booked the cruise and were planning on surprising them onboard "It was honestly one of the most rewarding feelings I've ever had. Being able to give them that kind of joy, especially for such a milestone, meant everything," Shailyn tells PEOPLEOne couple celebrating their wedding anniversary were shocked when their daughter crashed the party. In honor of their 25th wedding anniversary on May 19, Daniel and Melissa Figueroa booked an eight-day cruise to the Bahamas. Although Daniel, 47, and Melissa, 46, were excited to set sail for their Caribbean getaway, Melissa especially had hoped that their daughter, Shailyn Torres, would join them and was "disappointed" when she told them that the cruise had sold out. "Little did she know, I had already booked the cruise a week before it actually sold out!" Shailyn tells PEOPLE. Shailyn, 30, and her husband, Sergio Torres, 33, kept the surprise a secret from Daniel and Melissa for about two months. "My husband and I cruise often, but we told my mom we weren't fans of Carnival [Cruise Line] just to throw her off," Shailyn explains. "We made up excuses so she wouldn't suspect a thing." Even though Shailyn's mother and stepfather are "usually good at picking up on surprises," this time, "they had no idea." The day before Daniel and Melissa's milestone anniversary, they were sitting at the bar of the cruise ship, waiting to sail away from the Baltimore Cruise Port. That's when Shailyn and Sergio quietly snuck up behind them before announcing themselves. Once they realized who was behind them, Daniel and Melissa immediately began gasping and screaming in excitement before getting up from their barstools to hug Shailyn and Sergio. "They were so surprised and incredibly happy," Shailyn remembers. "They couldn't stop smiling or talking about how I managed to pull it off." The moment was just as meaningful to Shailyn. "It was honestly one of the most rewarding feelings I've ever had," she says. "Being able to give them that kind of joy, especially for such a milestone, meant everything. I was so happy, emotional and proud that the surprise worked perfectly." Here's to love that lasts and surprises that hit just right! 🥂✨." In the video, several onlookers at the bar looked just as moved by the surprise. "People around us were super curious," Shailyn recalls. "My mom was screaming with joy and everyone was laughing and smiling." All of the commotion even caught the DJ's attention. He stopped the music to ask what was going on and after learning about the heartwarming reunion, he announced the 25th wedding anniversary surprise. "The whole room started clapping," Shailyn says. "Strangers were coming up to us saying how beautiful and heartwarming it was." Shailyn and Sergio joined Daniel and Melissa for the entire trip. Even "more special" was that the group resided on the same floor, Deck 7. Read the original article on People

Expect Memorial Day weekend traffic delays in Massachusetts

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – It's the start of the long weekend, and many travelers are hitting the road on Friday. Do you plan on grilling this Memorial Day weekend? Here's some fire safety tips MassDOT is saying that Friday will be the busiest travel day this Memorial Day weekend, so you're going to want to plan ahead. They say the best time to travel is in the morning each day, and the worst times will be in the afternoon through the evening. If you're planning to head out later, know that the most traffic is expected through 8 p.m., so leave extra time and stay patient. One couple heading to Bar Harbor, Maine, says they're glad they left early, before things get backed up. 'Normally we would've left yesterday but the weather was terrible. We leave a day early and come back a day late. That's the best advice we can tell people. Leave a day early, come back a day late,' said Daniel and Linda of Harwinton, Connecticut. Now, Monday is actually expected to be okay before 2 p.m. AAA says the worst of the traffic will be between 4 and 7 p.m., so plan around that for the way home. Also, know that Boston is one of the top domestic travel destinations this holiday weekend, so the MassPike could get hit pretty hard. Check times before your leave and look out for your fellow travelers.
