What stood out from Wisconsin women's basketball coach Robin Pingeton introductory presser
Wisconsin women's basketball officially introduced the eighth head coach in program history on Tuesday.
Two weeks after former head coach Marisa Moseley's departure, Chris McIntosh and the Wisconsin brass hired Robin Pingeton to fill the void on the sidelines. The veteran coach arrives in Madison with decades of experience in the Midwest Collegiate Conference, Missouri Valley Conference, Big 12 Conference and Southeastern Conference.
Most recently, Pingeton spent the last 15 seasons with the Missouri Tigers. During her tenure, she posted a 250-218 overall mark with 10 postseason appearances, including four consecutive bids to the NCAA Tournament from 2015-19.
Prior to that time, the Iowa native showcased her program-building ability at Illinois State. She morphed the Redbirds' sub-.500 team in 2004-05 into a 28-8 squad by the time she departed after the 2009-10 season. The upside in transforming a struggling program into a perennial postseason performer certainly influenced her hiring.
The Badgers needed a boost in morale after finishing 2024-25 with a 13-17 overall record and 4-14 mark in conference play. Outside of Serah Williams, arguably the greatest player in Wisconsin's program history, UW lacked any type of offensive consistency.
Pingeton, who boasts a winning history in a hyper-competitive SEC, addressed that in her opening presser on Tuesday.
"We want to play up-tempo for sure," Pingeton said. "We want to play early in the shot clock. We want to play in transition. Offensively, we really like positionless basketball where you're really teaching the game and not putting players in a box. You've got to have great footwork, great decision-making. That's a learned skill for a lot of college players...Defensively, we want to be really disruptive. We kind of just want to be a pain. We want to keep other teams on their toes, we want to switch up our defense [and] we will also be scouring report-based...You're going to find a team that's going to play really hard."
Pingeton also addressed the most pressing matter for those invested in the 2025-26 team -- the transfer portal.
As of April 3, the Badgers roster six total players and just one senior - reserve guard Lily Krahn. Wisconsin's entire starting five from the 2024-25 season departed via graduation or the portal. It is now Pingeton's responsibility to rebuild a rotation from scratch.
"We're really operating now in a pro-style with the revenue share and the portal" Pingeton said. "Being able to bring in players that have really good game experience, that are more mature, that have played at a high level, it's an opportunity to be really selective. Who fits your style? Who has an uncommon work ethic?... In our portal calls right now, I'm trying to be transparent to a fault... I don't think you settle. I think there [are] non-negotiables. I have a vision, and I'm excited to put Wisconsin women's basketball back on the map."
With roughly three weeks remaining until the transfer portal closes, Pingeton is faced with an uphill battle. But, while the program lacks an identity or consistent culture, Wisconsin's cache and history as a member of the Big Ten is inarguably appealing for those looking to become a No. 1 option.

How Auburn baseball has fared historically in the NCAA Super Regionals
How Auburn baseball has fared historically in the NCAA Super Regionals Get ready for this week's Super Regional by re-living Auburn's previous four trips. Auburn baseball is set to compete in the NCAA Super Regionals this weekend against Coastal Carolina for a chance to make another trip to the College World Series. Auburn has competed in the NCAA Super Regionals four times before. However, this year's edition is unique as it will be the first time the Tigers have hosted the appetizer for Omaha at Plainsman Park in Auburn. Auburn earned the right to host this year's supers by clinching the No. 4 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament and sweeping the competition at last weekend's Auburn Regional, outscoring the likes of Central Connecticut, Stetson, and NC State, 28-11. Auburn head coach Butch Thompson was pleased with his team's efforts over the weekend that led to a sweep and another Super Regional appearance. 'Thankful for being able to get through this tough regional,' Thompson said after Auburn's 11-1 win over NC State on Sunday. 'That was a grind for us. Never hosted a super regional before. Pretty excited about that. They fought hard, they were connected. They played a pretty solid three days for us.' Auburn's next super regional appearance will be its fifth all-time, and its fourth since the 2018 season. As you prepare to cheer on the Tigers this weekend, here is a look back at their history in the NCAA Super Regionals Auburn overcomes the West Coast obstacle in 2022 at Oregon State Auburn baseball got the full West Coast treatment in 2022. Not only did Auburn have to travel across the country to battle Oregon State, but two of the three games played in Corvallis began at 9 p.m. CT. The Tigers prevailed, however, winning the Corvallis Super Regional, 2-1, to advance to the College World Series. In the series-clinching win in game three, Auburn slugger Sonny DiChiara hit a two-run home run to put the Tigers on the board, and the combination of Mason Barnett, Carson Skipper, and Blake Burkhalter combined to strike out 14 Beavers to nail down the win. Edouard Julien leads the Tigers' bats to a Super Regional win at North Carolina in 2019 As the kids say, "I know the Tar Heels hate to see Edouard Julien coming." Auburn took two of three games from North Carolina in Chapel Hill in 2019 by combining to score 25 runs in its two victories. Julien recorded five hits and six RBI over the weekend, while Ryan Bliss, Conor Davis, and Rankin Woley had strong outings at the plate over the weekend. Auburn's Omaha dreams are bounced in Gainesville in 2018 Auburn baseball breezed through the Raleigh Regional to advance to its first Super Regional in 19 years, meeting up with SEC rival Florida in Gainesville. Florida got the best of Auburn in game one in a battle of current MLB pitchers, Brady Singer and Casey Mize. Singer struck out nine batters and allowed two runs on four hits to help Florida secure the 8-2 victory over the Tigers. Auburn responded by winning game two, 3-2, thanks to a Luke Jarvis home run in the top of the 9th inning. Game three between the Tigers and Gators was a classic that ended in a heartbreaking way for Auburn. Tied 2-2 in the 11th inning, Florida's Austin Langworthy hit a ball to deep right field. Auburn right fielder Steven Williams jumped to catch the ball, but it bounced out of his glove and landed beyond the short porch, giving the Gators the close win. The Noles bash Auburn on the way to Omaha in 1999 Auburn won 46 games during the 1999 campaign, and made its first-ever Super Regional appearance in Tallahassee. The Seminoles did not make it easy on Auburn as they swept the Tigers in two games. Florida State went on to be the national runner-ups that season, losing to rival Miami in the finals. Hartford's XL Center re-named PeoplesBank Arena
Hartford's downtown arena will now go by a new name: PeoplesBank Arena. On Monday, the State of Connecticut announced the Holyoke, Massachusetts-based company purchased the naming rights to the venue, which had been known as the XL Center since 2007. CT Insider reported the deal is worth $20 million over 10 years. PeoplesBank — different than People's United Bank, which merged with M&T Bank a few years ago — has five branches in Hartford County with a six set to open soon. 'We chose to invest in this arena because we believe in Hartford,' PeoplesBank CEO and chairman Thomas Senecal said at a ceremony. 'We believe in the revitalization happening here, the momentum building downtown, the renewed energy in the business district, the arts, the restaurants, the culture. And of course, the sports.' Originally called the Hartford Civic Center, the arena serves as the part-time home for three UConn sports teams: Men's basketball, women's basketball and men's hockey. The two basketball split their home games between Hartford and Gampel Pavilion in Storrs. The Ice Bus moved downtown on a full-time basis after joining Hockey East in 2014 but scaled back to just 4-6 games per season once the new on-campus ice rink, Toscano Family Ice Forum, opened in 2022. The venue also houses the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, concerts and other events throughout the year. Originally opened in 1975, it's currently undergoing a $145 million renovation that will add premium seating, an upgraded concourse, new locker rooms and other improvements. The work is expected to be completed by October. Florida basketball ranked inside the top five in The Athletic's Top 25 reset rankings
Florida basketball ranked inside the top five in The Athletic's Top 25 reset rankings The Florida Gators men's basketball team has earned a No. 5 ranking in The Athletic's updated preseason top 25, following the dust settling on the transfer portal and NBA draft decisions. In his "Top 25 Reset", college basketball analyst CJ Moore praised the Gators' size, depth and incoming transfers as key reasons for their rise. Florida's frontcourt, featuring Thomas Haugh, Alex Condon and Rueben Chinyelu, was highlighted as a potential matchup nightmare. Also, the Gators added two major transfers in guards Boogie Fland and Xaivian Lee. Head coach Todd Golden's ability to reload after a national championship run was also commended. Moore emphasized the Gators' up-tempo offensive style and potential for further growth from players like Haugh and Condon as central to Florida's championship hopes. The Gators are the highest-ranked SEC program in the rankings, ahead of teams like the Kentucky Wildcats (No. 9) and Auburn Tigers (No. 10). Here is everything Moore wrote about Florida basketball and why he ranked them at No. 5. What The Athletic said about Florida "Big is back: Last season's best teams had positional size and elite paint protection. Florida could play a giant lineup that features Thomas Haugh (6-9), Alex Condon (6-11) and Rueben Chinyelu (6-10) up front. Those three played together only three possessions last season, per CBB Analytics, but it'll be hard to justify bringing one of them off the bench, considering Haugh's performance in the NCAA Tournament and the inexperience of the other wing options. That big lineup could also help mask some defensive limitations of Boogie Fland and Xaivian Lee. "Florida's up-tempo style should help Fland prove he can be a more efficient player than he was under John Calipari. The Gators will contend for another title if Fland and Lee are productive and if Haugh and Condon continue to gain confidence in their playmaking and scoring abilities. They'll be expected to perform more like stars and take some of the heat off perimeter guys who cannot be expected to replicate the production of Walter Clayton." The Athletic's top five college basketball teams The Athletic ranked the Purdue Boilermakers as the top team in the country, followed by the Houston Cougars, UConn Huskies, Michigan Wolverines and Florida Gators to round out the top five.
