Tech Mahindra taps KPIT executive to lead GCC push amid industry-wide shift

Mumbai: Tech Mahindra Ltd has appointed Santosh Kumar Jha, formerly with mid-cap IT services firm KPIT Technologies, to head its global capability centres (GCC) business, according to three people familiar with the development. Tech Mahindra is the fourth large Indian IT services company to make such an appointment in the past three months.
The move marks a strategic push by the Pune-based firm to grow its GCC vertical, as the company builds out a consulting-led services portfolio and seeks to expand beyond its core telecom business.

Jha, who joined Tech Mahindra in March as senior vice-president, was earlier executive director at Maryland-based TEKsystems. At KPIT, he worked on global delivery and transformation. His appointment comes as part of a broader leadership reshuffle within the company's GCC practice.
Jha replaces Ram Ramachandran, who previously led the GCC vertical and was country head for India, Middle East and Africa. Earlier this month, Ramachandran moved to a new role heading specialist sales. His position as country head has been taken over by Sahil Dhawan, a long-time Tech Mahindra executive and former KPIT executive himself.
Country heads for each GCC client will now report to Jha, who is in turn expected to report to Dhawan, said one of the three people cited earlier.
An email sent to Tech Mahindra seeking comments went unanswered.
Chasing GCC growth
Jha's appointment aligns with a broader trend among India's top-tier IT service providers, which are increasingly prioritising their captive centre businesses.
Cognizant Technology Solutions was the first among the large firms to name a new GCC head, appointing Sailaja Josyula to the role on 1 April. Wipro Ltd followed with the appointment of Sandeep Dhar on 9 May, while HCL Technologies named Kiran Cherukuri to a similar position a week earlier.

Each firm has taken a different approach. Cognizant and HCLTech have relied on long-time insiders to lead the business, while Wipro and Tech Mahindra have turned to external hires to steer their GCC strategies.
India is the world's largest hub for global capability centres, with around 1,760 such centres across the country, more than half of them based in Bengaluru, according to industry body Nasscom. That number is expected to rise to 2,200 by March 2030, with a total market size projected at $105 billion.
GCCs are typically back-end tech and business support centres that multinational companies set up in India, with staffing and operations often handled by third-party IT service providers. These providers earn revenue through employee provisioning, infrastructure, and sometimes revenue-sharing arrangements.

'The innovation starts in-house and is augmented via the service provider partnership. This means providers have to align more consultatively with their clients, and is the reason why firms like Tech M(ahindra), Infosys, Cognizant and Wipro are all appointing GCC leaders to cement these symbiotic partnerships," said Phil Fersht, chief executive, HFS Research.
Tech Mahindra, under chief executive Mohit Joshi, is betting on the GCC business as one of its key growth levers. During the company's post-earnings analyst call on 24 April, Joshi said the company is 'building out specific solutions for GCCs, hiring new GCC leadership under Sahil (Dhawan), and working on solutions that go all the way from build, operate and transfer to... supplementing them on their variable capacity."
To support this strategy, Tech Mahindra launched a dedicated consulting arm, TechM Consulting, on 4 November 2024. It also rolled out its revamped GCC offering, the 'SST Next-Gen GCC Offering', on 1 April this year, according to two internal memos seen by Mint.
These initiatives fall under the broader Strategic Solutioning and Transformation (SST) team, which Joshi announced as part of a three-year roadmap to improve profitability and revenue growth. The SST team will focus on large deals and work across all of Tech Mahindra's industry verticals.

Tech Mahindra's pivot comes at a time when the company is under pressure to revive growth. The firm reported $6.26 billion in revenue for the fiscal year ended March 2025, marking a second straight year of decline, and a 0.21% drop from the previous year.
'We expect Jha to bring a fresh perspective on how we can work with GCCs," said the person cited earlier. 'The company is undergoing structural changes in how it approaches this business, and this is a key move in that direction."

His visit comes after the two nations agreed on the Free Trade Agreement, which is set to increase trade by more than pounds 25 billion every year. Foreign Secretary Lammy will meet with Prime Minister Modi on his second visit to India to discuss ongoing economic and migration partnership, a statement from the British HC said. The Foreign Secretary will also welcome progress in the migration partnership, including ongoing work on safeguarding citizens and securing borders in both countries. Addressing migration remains a top priority for the government - the Foreign Secretary is focused on working internationally with global partners to secure the UK's borders at home. Foreign Secretary David Lammy said: 'Signing a free trade agreement is just the start of our ambitions - we're building a modern partnership with India for a new global era. We want to go even further to foster an even closer relationship and cooperate when it comes to delivering growth, fostering innovative technology, tackling the climate crisis and delivering our migration priorities, and providing greater security for our people.' The Foreign Secretary will also meet with leading figures in Indian business to discuss how we can unlock even greater investment by Indian business in the UK. Our investment relationship supports over 600,000 jobs across both countries, with over 950 Indian-owned companies in the UK and over 650 UK companies in India. In 2023-24, India was the UK's second largest source of investments in terms of number of projects for the fifth consecutive year. Talks will also take stock of progress, following a commitment by the UK and Indian Prime Ministers to take forward an ambitious UK-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The trade deal is a key example of the progress being made since the last meeting between the Foreign Secretary and his Indian counterpart. It follows the signing of the UK-India Programme of Cultural Cooperation Agreement in May and pounds 400 million of trade and investment wins boosting the British and the Indian economy at the Economic and Financial Dialogue in April. The Foreign Secretary is also expected to address the recent escalation in tensions following the Pahalgam terrorist attack and how the welcomed sustained period of peace can be best supported in the interests of stability in the region. On May 2, the UK and India signed a new UK-India Programme of Cultural Cooperation to boost collaboration across the arts and culture, creative industries, tourism and sport sectors. The agreement will open the door for increased UK creative exports to India and enable more partnerships between UK and Indian museums and cultural institutions, helping to grow UK soft power. At the 13th UK-India Economic and Financial Dialogue (EFD) in April, Chancellor Rachel Reeves welcomed pounds 400 million of trade and investment wins set to boost the British and the Indian economy and deliver economic growth and security for working people. Indian stock market: Indian stocks closed with impressive gains on Friday, driven by the RBI's dual boost—a 50 basis point reduction in the repo rate and a 100 basis point cut in the CRR—which lifted hopes for stronger credit demand and a rebound in domestic economic growth. Markets remained in a consolidation phase for the third straight week but still posted gains of nearly 1%, supported by positive domestic factors. After trading within a narrow range for most of the week, benchmark indices rallied sharply on Friday, ending near their weekly highs. The Nifty 50 and Sensex ended the session on a strong note, both rising by more than 1%. The Nifty 50 advanced 252 points, or 1.02%, to settle at 25,003, while the Sensex climbed 443 points, or 1%, closing at 82,188. 'The stock index has moved up sharply following a bazooka policy move by the RBI. It closed above the 25,000 mark after several sessions, indicating a surge in optimism among market participants. Typically, a rally followed by consolidation often results in an upward breakout, and this time too, we expect Nifty to break out above the recent consolidation range,' said Rupak De, Senior Technical Analyst at LKP Securities. According to Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking, the Nifty has once again approached the upper band of its prevailing consolidation range of 24,500–25,100. Mishra further added that a decisive breakout above 25,200 would mark the beginning of a fresh uptrend, with potential to gradually move toward the 25,600–25,800 zone. On the downside, the 24,400–24,600 range is expected to act as a strong support zone during any corrective phase. ' With the RBI's rate cut and dovish commentary acting as strong tailwinds, we maintain our positive outlook on the markets and suggest continuing with a 'buy on dips' strategy unless the Nifty decisively breaks below 24,600. However, investors should remain selective and focus on fundamentally strong stocks in sectors such as banking, auto, and real estate, which are poised to benefit from lower interest rates. A heartwarming picture of Indian-origin Republican leader Vivek Ramaswamy was bombarded with racist and anti-immigrant comments by X users, as the MAGA world imploded with Donald Trump and Elon Musk attacking each other in public. Vivek Ramaswamy was closely aligned with the MAGA movement until Christmas 2024, when he criticised aspects of American culture and strongly reaffirmed his support for the H-1B visa programme. At the time, he was serving as co-chief of Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency. While Musk initially backed Ramaswamy's stance on H-1B visas, he reportedly disapproved of his subsequent actions. As a result, Ramaswamy stepped down from DOGE even before Donald Trump's inauguration. Ramaswamy had also put his hat in the ring for the US presidential polls but later withdrew from the race, despite backing from both Musk and Trump. As the two heavyweights locked horns on social media, Ramaswamy posted a photo carrying his two children — Karthik and Arjun — and wrote: "It's why we do it." The post had no connection with the MAGA crisis but was still met with vicious trolling. However, the comment section quickly turned hostile, with many users mocking Ramaswamy — some pointing out that 'Americans wear socks inside shoes,' likely referencing an earlier interview where he appeared barefoot. One user even asked Grok to change the background of the photo to a 'garbage-filled street in India.' "Why don't Americans deport this Indian?" one asked. "Is there a scientific reason as to why I find this photo repulsive?" a third user said. "Send him back to India... In the name of Jesus Christ," another wrote. "Do it in India," a hater said. Some X users pressed Ramaswamy to share his views on the Trump–Elon Musk feud, urging him to take a clear stand. While a few praised him for 'seeing it all much ahead of time,' others were curious about the extent of his falling out with Musk before he was shown the door at DOGE. One user questioned the MAGA movement's double standards, asking why it embraces Elon Musk — who wasn't born in the US — but not Vivek Ramaswamy, who was born in Cincinnati.
