Retegui completes comeback to make Atalanta history

GENOA, Italy (AP) — Mateo Retegui made history on Saturday. And against the team he used to play for.
Retegui set an Atalanta scoring record in a Serie A season when his 25th goal snatched a 3-2 win at Genoa.
The previous record was 24 by Filippo Inzaghi in 1996-97.
Retegui is also waiting to be crowned the league's top goal-scorer this season, as he has seven more than his nearest challenger.
He is in his first season at Atalanta after joining from Genoa in August.
It was the only match in the penultimate round with only pride to play for. The other nine matches kick off at the same time on Sunday, when Napoli could win Serie A.
Atalanta had already secured third spot in Serie A, and Genoa was comfortably mid-table.
Genoa took the lead when Andrea Pinamonti headed an Aaron Martin cross to end a three-month goal drought.
Ibrahim Sulemana leveled for Atalanta immediately after the break with a fine strike from distance.
Pinamonti doubled his tally in the 58th, squeezing a finish into the bottom near corner after some woeful Atalanta defending.
Daniel Maldini hauled Atalanta level again five minutes later after a Marten De Roon through ball was allowed by a smart Retegui dummy.
Atalanta turned the match around completely with a minute remaining when Charles De Ketelaere raced down the right before rolling across for Retegui to sweep home.
The Italy forward didn't celebrate against his former team.

Inter decide to sign Zalewski permanently

Inter have decided to activate the buy option and make Nicola Zalewski's signing permanent. As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter will sign Zalewski to a permanent contract, thus guaranteeing Roma a revenue of €6.5 million. Advertisement Despite the change on the bench and the departure of Simone Inzaghi, the Nerazzurri management wanted to confirm their faith in the player, focusing on him as an important player for the future. For Roma, this is a useful operation to raise money, especially in view of new investments to be made on the market. After the revenue from the sales of Le Fée and Dahl, this is another strategic entry that allows the club to operate with greater margin on incoming negotiations. Meanwhile, Zalewski leaves the capital once and for all and prepares for a new chapter in his career.

Scamacca wants to return to Roma

Roma is looking for a new centre-forward and one of the top names on the club's shortlist is that of Gianluca Scamacca. As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Roman striker has openly expressed his desire to return to the capital, due to the problems he experienced last season with Atalanta, struggling with injuries to his cruciate ligament and thigh. Advertisement The new Roma boss, Gian Piero Gasperini, who has already trained him, would be in favour of reuniting with him, and the two apparently spoke about it during a private event. In any case, the operation is not simple. Atalanta is asking for at least 25 million euros to let the player leave, a significant sum for the Giallorossi. Roma sporting director Florent Ghisolfi is evaluating whether to make the move or turn to alternatives. Scamacca would represent the ideal profile for Roma: young, physical and with a strong bond with the city. The operation is complex, but the player's desire could push towards a concrete negotiation in the coming weeks.

Naylor hits grand slam in 11th and Diamondbacks recover to beat Mariners 8-4

Associated Press PHOENIX (AP) — Josh Naylor hit a game-ending grand slam in the 11th inning and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Seattle Mariners 8-4 on Monday night after losing closer Justin Martinez with two outs in the ninth and then blowing a four-run lead. Corbin Carroll launched a leadoff homer and Naylor had three hits and five RBIs for the Diamondbacks, who stopped a three-game skid. Martinez entered to start the ninth with Arizona leading 4-0 and struck out Jorge Polanco and Randy Arozarena to begin the inning. The right-hander then walked Dylan Moore on a full count and threw a pitch to Donovan Solano before calling for an athletic trainer. Jeff Brigham came in and gave up RBI singles to Solano and Cole Young before Dominic Canzone tied it with a 450-foot, two-run drive to right field for his first homer this season. Juan Morillo retired slugger Cal Raleigh with two runners aboard to finally end the inning. Morillo then pitched a perfect 10th and Jalen Beeks (2-0) got three straight outs in the 11th. Naylor homered to right-center with one out on a 1-2 pitch from Carlos Vargas (1-5), who was working his second inning in relief. Vargas loaded the bases with a walk to Geraldo Perdomo that followed an intentional walk to Ketel Marte. ___ AP MLB: recommended
