Benfica vs Bayern Munich prediction, odds and betting offer
Two European heavyweights go head-to-head in the final group stage match but with Bayern Munich already in the next round this could well benefit Benfica
Bayern Munich have already secured their spot in the last-16 of the Club World Cup, and as they approach their final Group C clash against Benfica, the German champions are unlikely to take it easy.
A draw would work well for both sides, ensuring Bayern top the group while Benfica advance to the knockout stage. However, given Benfica's recent struggles, avoiding a sixth consecutive defeat to Bayern might be a tall order.
In their previous Champions League encounter in November, Jamal Musiala netted the crucial goal for Bayern. Although Musiala might miss this match due to fitness concerns, Bayern's strength is likely to shine through once more.
Bayern kicked off their Club World Cup journey with a staggering 10-0 victory against Auckland City, where Musiala made a memorable appearance from the bench, scoring a rapid hat-trick in just 16 minutes.
While Bayern surged to a 4-0 lead within 21 minutes against Auckland, Benfica managed to fend them off until first-half injury time during their own encounter, when Angel Di Maria's penalty salvaged some pride for the Portuguese side.
Bruno Lage's team has faced setbacks recently, narrowly missing out on the Primeira Liga title and falling short in the Portuguese Cup final after extra time against Sporting.
On matchday one, Benfica showed resilience by clawing back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Boca Juniors, despite veteran Nicolas Otamendi scoring both for and against his team. The game also saw Andrea Belotti sent off and left-back Alvaro Carreras suspended, adding to manager Lage's woes after a heated exchange with Orkun Kokcu following his substitution against Auckland.
Conversely, Bayern's camp seems much more harmonious under Vincent Kompany's leadership as they reclaimed the Bundesliga title. Star striker Harry Kane opened the scoring against Boca Juniors before Michael Olise sealed an 84th-minute winner.
After being ousted by Inter in the Champions League quarter-finals, Bayern look poised to make a strong run in the Club World Cup and are expected to round off their Group C campaign flawlessly.

European giants humbled as Club World Cup script gets rewritten
PHILADELPHIA, June 24 (Reuters) - The script seemed predetermined - Europe's football giants would cruise through FIFA's expanded Club World Cup against grateful opponents from distant continents. Instead, the tournament has delivered a plot twist, leaving the game's traditional powerhouses scrambling for explanations. With Porto and Atletico Madrid eliminated in the group stage and European sides winning just two of seven matches against South American opposition, the continent's expected dominance has failed to materialise. "We knew beforehand that the tournament came at the end of a long season, whereas for the South Americans it's right in the middle, when they are peaking," lamented Atletico Madrid's Diego Simeone after his side's early exit. The exhaustion narrative has become familiar, with players' union FIFPro Europe pursuing legal action against FIFA over the punishing calendar. There's also America's scorching summer heat. But South Americans, however, reject these explanations entirely. "Having played for many years in Europe, I don't buy this end-of-season fatigue narrative," said Flamengo's Filipe Luis, who played under Simeone at Atletico, after a commanding 3-1 win over Chelsea. "We came here seeing every game as a final. That makes a big difference." Statistics further complicate the European exhaustion argument. Among participating clubs, four Brazilian teams, including Botafogo, top the list for matches played in the last year, each surpassing 70 games. Botafogo, who qualified from Group B along with Paris St Germain at the expense of Atletico Madrid, played 18 more matches than their Spanish opponents during the same period. While Brazilian teams had a month's rest before their domestic season began, their packed schedules have long been a source of complaint in South America. Brazilian great Zico criticised European attitudes, saying, "We are seeing some European figures act like they own football and that must stop. As soon as they see things not going well, they start making lots of excuses." 'They seem unable to play when faced with adversity. The heat is the same for everyone and we have been playing forever the previous version of the Club World Cup at the end of our season. So why is it now a problem?' The Club World Cup in its previous format was played in December. Not all European managers have blamed external factors for their teams' struggles. Juventus coach Igor Tudor said he didn't see "any signs of fatigue" in his squad, while PSG boss Luis Enrique, despite a surprise 1-0 loss to Botafogo, praised the tournament. "I think the concept is brilliant. It's a celebration of all football," Luis Enrique said. "It's no surprise for me. It's nice to see teams from different parts of the world." The tournament, traditionally dominated by European clubs, has seen South American teams embrace the opportunity to challenge the hierarchy and as matches continue under the scorching summer heat, the event has evolved into a genuine global competition.

Chelsea fans accuse club of 'exploiting loyalty' as Premier League make contact
Chelsea have increased ticket prices by an average of 17 per cent in the last two seasons and the club's official supporters' group have vented their fury at the ownership, accusing them of alienating the core fanbase Chelsea fans have slammed a new ticket pricing strategy and accused the club of 'exploiting the loyalty of those people who are the lifeblood of the club.' The Chelsea Supporters' Trust says season ticket prices have increased by an average of 17 per cent in the last two years and members are angry at new booking fees, decreasing concessions and a £60 'priority' membership. They have now surveyed their members and the CST says it is joining the Football Supporters' Association's nationwide Stop Exploiting Loyalty campaign. A CST spokesperson said: 'Piece by piece, Chelsea FC is alienating a large part of our core fan base with decisions that will slowly force supporters to pick and choose which games they attend. 'The exploitation of members is also a worry, and we are deeply concerned that the increasingly bad deal that members have will negatively impact our club for generations to come. 'This should be a huge wake-up call to the owners and the senior leadership team within the club. Supporters are rejecting the decisions made by the club and are evidently unhappy with the current path being taken. 'Not only is it ethically wrong to exploit the loyalty of the lifeblood of our club, but it is strategically short-sighted and obliterates any trust or goodwill that had started to be built by recent positive initiatives.' The Premier League has already contacted Chelsea over complaints that a ticket resale company part-owned by co-owner Todd Boehly, Vivid Seats, was selling seats for sky high prices. Chelsea reported a pre-tax profit of £128.4m last year and could earn £97m from the Club World Cup. Less than 30 per cent of members thought prices were acceptable. The CST added: 'Despite record-breaking profits, Chelsea FC has broken its commitment to 'maximise all other revenue streams before increasing costs for supporters' by introducing a range of new policies that hit the pockets of loyal supporters. 'The CST has consistently warned the club that time after time they are making poor choices that infuriate supporters. This statistic is therefore really alarming and cannot be ignored.' Chelsea said recently they had consulted with the Fan Advisory Board and added: 'As a club, our priority is to ensure that we are making the right decisions for the long-term sustainability and success of the club.'
