Simone Biles' ex-teammate MyKayla Skinner defends Riley Gaines and makes bombshell claim about gymnast
Simone Biles ' former teammate MyKayla Skinner has reignited their feud in explosive fashion after accusing the Olympic legend of 'belittling' her behind the scenes and siding with Riley Gaines in their recent transgender dispute.
Skinner, who became embroiled in a furious spat with Biles last year, has unleashed an astonishing attack on the gymnast in the wake of her viral argument with Gaines on X last week.
Biles ripped into Gaines, an outspoken conservative activist and former swimmer who had to compete against a biological male in her college career, for campaigning against the inclusion of trans athletes in women's sports, branding her 'truly sick' and a 'bully' while claiming she has the appearance of a man.
She has since apologized over the remark, while backtracking on her apparent suggestion that trans women should be free to compete against biological females.
Yet as the dust settles on her spat with Gaines, Biles is now facing accusations of bullying herself from Skinner, who has made bombshell claims against her ex-Olympic teammate in an statement provided to One America News.
The latter first sided with Gaines over the recent transgender debate by arguing: 'As an athlete who has dedicated years to a sport, I've always believed that true competition should elevate us - not diminish others.
OAN received an official statement on behalf of @mykaylaskinner:
"As an athlete who has dedicated years to a sport, I've always believed that true competition should elevate us—not diminish others. That's why it's deeply troubling to see @Simone_Biles publicly label a fellow… pic.twitter.com/owcjv7JejB
— One America News (@OANN) June 13, 2025
'That's why it's deeply troubling to see @Simone_Biles publicly label a fellow female athlete a 'sore loser' - simply for expressing valid concerns about fairness in women's sports.'
She added: 'I commend and appreciate @Riley_Gaines_ for having the courage to speak up. Women like her are not only standing for fairness, but for the future of female athletics itself. She deserves support - not ridicule.
'It's one thing to disagree. It's another to use your platform to bully and demean. No one should be punished for standing up for fairness and biological reality. We should be lifting each other up - not tearing one another down for speaking hard truths.'
Skinner, who has known the American icon for over a decade after they both represented USA at the 2014 World Championships in Nanning, then opened up on the shocking treatment she claims Biles subjected her to when they were teammates.
'Throughout my own career, I endured being belittled, dismissed and ostracized behind the scenes by Simone,' she alleged. 'The pressure to stay silent was immense. I kept quiet out of respect - for the sport, for my teammates, and for the ideal of unity among athletes.
'But witnessing this kind of public shaming, especially from someone in a position of influence, makes that silence no longer acceptable.'
Skinner and Biles were teammates at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, when they both picked up medals despite the latter withdrawing from several events with a case of the 'twisties' - a mental block that that sees a gymnast lose control of their body during a twisting skill in midair.
MyKayla picked up her silver in the vault event after Simone took a backseat, marking one of her greatest achievements as a gymnast after also winning four golds in the World Championships.
Biles and Gaines were caught in a shocking war of words over transgender athletes last week
Skinner says the Olympic icon 'belittled and ostracized' her when they were teammates
However, four years later the gymnastics duo who once considered themselves friends as well as teammates are now on bitter terms.
Their fallout began when Skinner questioned the 'work ethic' of certain Team USA gymnasts last year, which sparked an angry response from Biles.
'Besides Simone, I feel like the talent and the depth just isn't like what it used to be,' MyKayla said in a now-deleted YouTube video.
'The girls just don't have the work ethic.'
Despite Skinner excluding her from that brutal assessment, Biles appeared to hit back at her on social media at the time.
The USA great took a thinly-veiled swipe by writing on Threads: 'not everyone needs a mic and a platform'.
She and a number of other gymnasts, including Jordan Chiles, Sunisa Lee, and Jade Carey, also blocked Skinner on social media after her comments.
After the team claimed gold medals in the gymnastics teams final at last year's Paris Olympics, Biles aimed a sarcastic dig at Skinner when she shared a photo of herself, Chiles, Carey, Lee and Hezly Rivera holding the American flag aloft with the caption: 'lack of talent, lazy, olympic champions'.
Skinner later backtracked by claiming her comments were simply taken out of context.
'I feel like a lot of you guys had misinterpreted or misunderstood exactly what I was meaning or had said,' she said on Instagram.
'A lot of the stuff that I was talking about wasn't always necessarily about the current team, because I love and support all the girls that made it and I'm so proud of them.
'It was more about going back into my own gym and the work ethic is different compared to when we were doing gymnastics in the Marta [Karolyi] era. And I'm not sticking up for Marta or saying what she did was good, I'm just saying it was different.'

Club World Cup opens with a whimper
Inter Miami 0 Al-Ahly 0 Goalless but, thankfully, not wholly soulless even if at times it felt as tacky as the thick Florida evening air. Gianni Infantino boasted of the 'big bang' for this Club World Cup. The first of its 64 games in just four weeks – yes, 64, so buckle up – came and went with a low-key whimper. There was dynamic pricing for the tickets but predictably there was not enough dynamic football. The Club World Cup needs Lionel Messi. A new era or a new error? But Messi did not deliver. Not this time. But neither did Inter Miami embarrass themselves, as some feared. And there will be relief in that even if that is not really what elite tournaments are meant to be about. Quite what Messi made of it all was unclear. The game's greatest-ever, the eight-time Ballon D'Or winner was last out as kick-off approached to try and maximise his impact, with the organisers insisting each player arrived on his own and walked half the length of the pitch. As he emerged Messi wore a genuinely quizzical look on his face. Bizarrely the rigmarole delayed the start by seven minutes. Who could blame him. He and Miami were shoe-horned into this competition by the onlooking Fifa president and it did not appear like a comfortable fit. The tactics from Fifa appeared to be the same as they were from Miami: Leo just be there and do something. 'Messi, Messi,' rang around. But he was quiet. Playing the full 90 minutes, which almost felt contractual, despite the 30-degree heat, the 37-year-old could not quite do it although there were shrieks when a free-kick clipped a post and struck the side-netting. Many thought he had scored. How Infantino will have wished he did. 64' DID THE BALL NOT GO INSIDE THE NET?!? Messi's freekick fools everyone 😮 Watch the @FIFACWC | June 14 - July 13 | Every Game | Free | | #FIFACWC #TakeItToTheWorld — DAZN Football (@DAZNFootball) June 15, 2025 In injury-time, his cross was tipped onto the crossbar. Again close. In fact against Al-Ahly Messi was not even Miami's best Argentinean thirtysomething. That was 38-year-old goalkeeper Oscar Ustari who made a host of fine saves and repelled a first-half penalty from former Aston Villa forward Trezeguet. @OscarUstari the @InterMiamiCF goalie put on an absolute clinic in the opening game of the #FIFACWC - enjoy all the electric saves on repeat 🚀🚀🚀 and treat yourself to all the @FIFACWC games on 👉 — DAZN Football (@DAZNFootball) June 15, 2025 Messi was not alone in being underwhelming but he did offer more than his creaking former Barcelona team-mates Luis Suarez and Sergio Busquets. Suarez's most noteworthy contribution was to get booked. The strange nature of it all, more akin to a pre-season friendly, was summed up by the half-time 'entertainment' with 'Team Fifa' taking on 'Team Speed' – yes, a three-man side involving and named after the American YouTuber and Cristiano Ronaldo-fanatic who now appears to be Infantino's go-to media guy, IShowSpeed. With Infantino, flanked by Ronaldo – the Brazilian one – and Roberto Baggio watching on from the stands it was a crossbar challenge. Speed, of course, and former players Sergio Aguero and Pepe – whose effort was wayward and hit a fan on the head – never came close. Only Alessandro Del Piero, for Team Fifa, succeeded in nonchalantly chipping against the goal-frame and was subjected to an in-depth, on pitch interview. 'How you feel?' he was asked. 'I feel great,' the World Cup winner said and off he went. So there you go. And, so, this is what football is in danger of being reduced to. The fans of the Egyptian champions, Al-Ahly, made an atmosphere and saved the occasion but most of them, in truth, had travelled from other parts of the United States to see Messi. Football almost as a zoo and the only noise louder than the Al-Ahly supporters was the kerching from Fifa. Even so interest has been next to none in this inflated, 32-team Infantino vanity project that was imposed upon America ahead of next year's World Cup and its opening fixture was in keeping with that. There is no real buzz. No actual anticipation. No local excitement. Not even a poster or a billboard. The weekend interest is in the ice hockey, the Stanley Cup, involving the Florida Panthers, not a competition no-one has heard of although there was a cheer when Miami's co-owner David Beckham – the newly ennobled Sir David – walked pitchside. David Beckham: "It's been an emotional week" 🤩 Inter Miami's owner cannot believe that the long wait is over 🔥 WATCH @AlAhly - @InterMiamiCF in the @FIFACWC now | June 14 - July 13 | Every Game | Free | | #FIFACWC #TakeItToTheWorld — DAZN Football (@DAZNFootball) June 14, 2025 Sluggish ticket sales and hopeless public transport Empty seats? It had been a concern. But, in truth, most were taken even if the announcement that the attendance was 60,927 inside this 65,000-capacity arena looked like an Arsenal-style 'tickets sold' policy. Still there were not swathes of unoccupied stands, as had been feared and as are expected later in this tournament at matches that are much more difficult to sell. Mamelodi Sundowns against Fluminense back here on Wednesday, in the 3pm heat, on a working day, anyone? The bigger issue was getting in, and getting away afterwards, and given this American Football venue, the home of the Miami Dolphins, will also stage matches at next year's World Cup that must be improved. But will Fifa care? Infantino insisted on big stadiums and high-ticket prices. Eight of the 12 venues can hold at least 65,000 fans and only 12 games are being hosted in MLS-dedicated stadiums. Greed took this fixture away from Miami's 21,000-seat Chase Stadium – in fact this was the first time they have ever played here – and while we were repeatedly told that America was ready and gagging for this $1billion event it does not look like it. Transport to the stadium was and always has been a nightmare with no trains or buses coming close and Uber drivers dropping off passengers a mile away. One entrepreneurial local was charging $20 a ride in a golf buggy to cover that final mile and was doing a roaring trade. Inevitably the stadium was slow to fill. Many missed kick-off because of extra security, a second cordon away from the stadium to prevent a repeat of last summer's chaotic Copa America final when thousands of ticketless Colombians and Argentineans stormed their way into the ground. Staging the opening game here, with Miami, might have felt logical but was probably also a mistake. Miami season-ticket holders have had their chance to see Messi. Why would they pay more to watch him against a team they know nothing about? Even so stories of $4 tickets being offered to fill up the stadium were a little disingenuous given those tickets were for students at Miami Dade College, where some of the poorest go, and many of whom work as volunteers at this venue. Yes, those tickets were unsold but it felt a bit harsh. Not that Fifa or this Club World Cup is making itself easy to love. Or America, either, with controversy over whether US immigration officials are attending matches to try catch people out or are simply being drafted in as necessary added security because these are big events. Tournaments, including World Cups, often start slowly with momentum building and maybe that will happen here when the big teams face-off in the latter stages. But, right now, this still feels like a competition too far. For players, for fans and for football. If not for finance.

Inter Miami 0 Al Alhy 0: David Beckham watches Messi draw a blank in CWC opener next to Wenger days after knighthood
FORGET the scoreline - this was a knight to remember for Sir David Beckham. Fresh from receiving his knighthood, Becks was back in Miami, nestled into the posh seats alongside Arsene Wenger as his Inter Miami side kicked off the brand-new Club World Cup at Hard Rock Stadium. 7 7 7 When he started building an MLS franchise back in 2014, not even Beckham's wildest dreams could've conjured this — his boys in pink, led by Lionel Messi, opening FIFA's glitzy new global tournament on home turf. But here they were, bathed in Florida humidity, facing Egyptian titans Al Ahly in what promised to be a baptism by fire. On the face of it, drawing 0-0 didn't have Becks jumping up for joy. Yet it was a gritty point which proved his side might not be the pushovers many predicted, even if there will be sterner tests to come in the shape of Porto and Brazilian side Palmeiras. The odds coming into last night's clash weren't great. Miami have been in freefall in MLS. Al Ahly — 45-time Egyptian champions and backed by a deafening sea of red in the stands — were tipped to cruise. And they nearly did. On 42 minutes, they won a penalty - which showcased the new-fangled ref-cam for the first time - but standout keeper Oscar Ustari guessed right and denied Trezeguet with a brilliant save. It was a huge moment that kept Miami afloat. JOIN SUN VEGAS: GET £50 BONUS 7 Messi was quiet early on, unusually subdued. Luis Suarez barely got a touch. But the second half told a different story. The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup will see the World's best players decide which club is the greatest Messi came alive, brushing the post with a trademark free-kick and gradually seizing control. The tempo lifted and the crowd responded. Concerns over empty seats at the 65,000 capacity stadium were quickly erased — the place was almost at capacity and rocking with 60,927 taking it all in. Al Ahly began to fade, drained by the heat and Miami's late surge. Sub Fafa Picault almost grabbed a late winner, another Messi curler grazed the bar in stoppage time before Egyptian keeper Mohamed El Shenawi pulled off an incredible save at the death from Maxi Falcon's close-range header. Becks, suit and booted, looked like he was kicking every ball in the stands, grimacing as he was beamed onto the big screen with the game in the balance. 7 But in the end, a draw for the MLS side and their superstar owner was a decent result. FIFA boss Gianni Infantino would also have left Hard Rock Stadium a happy man. Not only was the opening match a lively affair, there was no repeat of the nightmare scenes at last year's Copa America final where Colombian and Argentina fans stormed into the stadium following lengthy delays to enter. FIFA, thankfully, installed a ring of steel around the perimeter to keep everyone safe for the first match of the new 32-team tournament. Miami boss Javier Mascherano said: "We knew we were up against a strong team. The nerves and anxiety played a trick on us in the first half,. 'But we had our chances to win. The team left a very good impression. "This is the path forward, playing like this, we can beat anyone.' 7

SunSport have enlisted the help of their betting experts to preview the game and select the best bets, tips and exclusive sign-up bonuses from our leading betting partners. Chelsea vs Los Angeles FC preview Chelsea get their Club World Cup competition up and running on Monday night with a game against LAFC. The Blues finished the season like a train, finishing in the Champions League places and wrapping up European glory by winning the Conference League. And they've been fairly busy in the first transfer window too, signing Mike Penders, centre-back Mamadou Sarr, Dario Essugo and £30million man Liam Delap all in the squad. However Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi - returning after loans at Arsenal and Aston Villa, respectively - won't be traveling as they look for their futures elsewhere. Chelsea are in the top half dozen in the outright betting markets but will face stiff competition once progressing through Group D. Los Angeles FC came through a play off in dramatic fashion, beating Club America in extra time. An 89th minute equaliser got LAFC back level before a Denis Bouanga goal - assisted by ex-Blues man Olivier Giroud - in the 115th minute secured their spot here. Ex-Spurs man Hugo Lloris is the LAFC goalkeeper, with the side having only formed 11 years ago. Odds are correct at the time of publication and are subject to change. Chelsea vs LAFC predictions Goals aplenty Chelsea are a short price here and will be looking to get off to a thumping start. And in doing so face an LAFC side who have played out three successive 2-2 draws and a 3-3 draw prior to that in their last four games not played at home. There will be goals in this game but the bookies know that with their odds. Have went in search of value. *Midnite. 18+ New UK customers. Bet £10 on accas with 4+ legs, min odds 3/1 (4.0).
