Standout receiver Shane Rosenthal of Newbury Park commits to UCLA
Shane Rosenthal, the record-setting receiver at Newbury Park High, had waited months to see if college recruiters might finally notice his skills besides teams in the Ivy League.
UCLA coach DeShaun Foster made a visit to Newbury Park last week, brought Rosenthal in for a recruiting visit, offered him a scholarship and Rosenthal changed his commitment from Princeton to UCLA on Tuesday.
Rosenthal had staggering statistics in high school, with career numbers of 324 receptions for 5,197 yards and 62 touchdowns. He also had 24 interceptions. Newbury Park won the Southern Section Division 2 championship this season.

Rosenthal and standout junior quarterback Brady Smigiel have been teammates and best friends for years, so Rosenthal's decision certainly can't hurt UCLA's chances in recruiting Smigiel, who recently withdrew his commitment to Florida State and listed UCLA as among the schools he's now looking at.
"They did their research and everything points toward a fit for them. My hats off to them," said Newbury Park coach Joe Smigiel, who went on Rosenthal's recruiting visit.

Martin's 3 RBI help UCLA beat UTSA 5-2 in Game 1 of Los Angeles Super Regional
LOS ANGELES -- Michael Barnett gave up two runs in six innings, Roman Martin had three RBIs for UCLA and the Bruins rallied to beat UTSA 5-2 on Saturday at the Los Angeles Super Regional in the first-ever matchup between the teams. No. 15 national seed UCLA (46-16) can clinch a berth in the College World Series with a win Sunday in Game 2 of the best-of-three series. Barnett (12-1) gave up six hits with no walks. Jack O'Connor and August Souza each pitched a no-hit inning of relief before Easton Hawk had two strikeouts in a 1-2-3 ninth for his seventh save of the season. Payton Brennan, Cashel Duggar and Phoenix Call each hit a single off starter Zach Royse (9-5) to load the bases in the fourth inning before Brennan scored on Dean West's sacrifice fly to give the Bruins a 3-2 lead. Mason Lytle hit a home run to lead off the game and Caden Miller stole home in the second inning to give UTSA a 2-0 lead. Seabury Hall alum Tyler Loree inducted into HHSAA Hall of Honor, headed to UCLA
The HHSAA held its Hall of Honor ceremony last week, with 12 new student-athletes inducted. One of those 12, is Seabury Hall's Tyler Loree. The Spartan just graduated from the school and is has been one of the top golfers in the state throughout his whole high school career. Loree now can add his name amongst some of the best athletes to ever play Prep Sports in the Hawaiian Islands. 'It's actually very special because the HHSAA has so many different sports across like all of Hawaii, all the schools and all the districts. It's very cool that I'm like, I'm honored as one of the best individuals in all of the sports combined,' said Loree. Loree has left his mark on the sport of Golf in Hawaii, as he was a 3-time MIL Champion and a back-to-back State Champion. He also played in the PGA Sony Open last January where he competed in his 2 days of competition where he was inside the cutline after day 1. 'I feel like I truly, throughout my high school career, I've kind of found myself as a golfer, but even more importantly, as a person and kind of who I am,' said Loree.
