Pro Football Focus ranks Texas A&M's 2025 linebacker unit in the Top 10 nationally
One of the strengths of Texas A&M's 2025 roster is finally being recognized this offseason, and credit to Pro Football Focus for being one of the first outlets to rank the entire Aggie linebacker corps as one of the top ten units nationally. Coming in at No. 6 in PFF's Top 10 college linebacker units, Texas A&M came in at No. 6 as Notre Dame (No. 5), Georgia (No. 4), Notre Dame (No. 3), LSU (No. 2) and Texas at No. 1 are the only teams considered "better" overall.
After previewing the unit last month, I have been very high on the group since the start of the offseason, knowing that junior Taurean York and senior Scooby Williams will be leading the way. Still, the depth is even intriguing with junior Daymon Sanford, Tristan Jernigan, and Jordan Lockhart all bringing their strengths to the middle of the defense.
According to the author, PFF analyst Max Chadwick has Taurean York as his second-ranked linebacker in all of college football, noting that his nation-leading 59 run-defense stops, combined with his improvement in coverage, make him a top 2026 NFL Draft prospect with enormous potential.
While Chadwick did not mention Jernigan or Lockhart, who will likely receive the least snaps between York, Williams, and Sanford, he did point out freshman LB Noah Mickhail, whose role in 2025 is unknown, but his skill is undeniable.
"Scooby Williams is back for his redshirt senior campaign after starting next to York last season. His 82.0 run-defense grade was 11th among SEC linebackers. Daymion Sanford also returns and was fourth among SEC linebackers with a 64.1 passer rating allowed in coverage. Noah Mickhail also enters College Station as the No. 9 linebacker recruit from the 2025 cycle."
Having two elite run-stoppers with York and Williams, combined with Sanford's elevated pass coverage, provides coach Mike Elko and his defensive staff plenty of leeway to get Mickhail on the field early in the season to test his readiness. Texas A&M's defense, outside of some depth issues at defensive tackle, is on track to be one of the top defenses in the SEC.

Indiana Fever dominate Chicago Sky minus Caitlin Clark, back to .500

Indiana Fever dominate Chicago Sky minus Caitlin Clark, back to .500 Thanks to a well-rounded road effort, the Indiana Fever are back to .500. Indiana (4-4) dominated the Chicago Sky (2-5) and Angel Reese on Saturday night, 77-52, as Fever guard Caitlin Clark missed her fourth straight game. It's now consecutive wins for Indiana minus Clark after they had dropped their first two minus the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year. Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell led the way with a game-high 17 points on 5-of-11 shooting with five rebounds, a pair of assists and one steal. Indiana forward Natasha Howard registered her fourth double-figure scoring contest of the season with 13 points. Fever forward Aliyah Boston finished with 11 points, five rebounds, five assists and one block. It was Boston's seventh game scoring in double figures. Recent emergency hardship signing Aari McDonald continued her impressive play since joining the club. After scoring seven points, assisting five times and coming away with three steals in her Fever debut during Indiana's 85-76 win over Washington on Tuesday, McDonald had another strong performance in the win over the Sky. The 5-foot-6 guard scored 12 points and knocked down a trio of 3-pointers against Chicago. McDonald also came away with four steals, two assists and one board. Indiana shot 45.8% from the field and 40.7% from beyond the arc as the Fever connected on 11 3-pointers. Meanwhile, Chicago shot just 32.7% from the field and 20.0% from the 3-point line. Reese finished with only four points on a 2-of-7 shooting night. The former LSU star grabbed 12 rebounds. The Fever are now 2-0 in Commissioner's Cup play. Kamilla Cardoso and Rebecca Allen led Chicago with eight points apiece. Indiana returns to action on Tuesday at Atlanta (5-3) from Gateway Center at 6:30 p.m. CT. The two teams have split the season's first two meetings with Atlanta winning in Indiana on May 20, 91-90, and the Fever winning at Atlanta on May 22, 81-76. Clark will be reevaluated on June 9 and could possibly return at Atlanta. "I feel like I've made a lot of progress and I feel good, and I'm not going to rush coming back. It's just not worth it. But after this weekend, I'll be reevaluated and we'll have a better idea of when I'll return," Clark said on Thursday. Eagles' Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean Already Ranked Among NFL's Best CB Duos

Eagles' Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean Already Ranked Among NFL's Best CB Duos originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Just one year after being drafted, Eagles cornerbacks Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean have been ranked as the NFL's third-best cornerback duo by Pro Football Focus, validating Philadelphia's defensive transformation and signaling a bright future for the franchise. Advertisement After years of struggling in their defensive secondary, the Philadelphia Eagles made a bold statement in the 2024 NFL Draft. With their first-round pick, the Eagles selected cornerback Quinyon Mitchell at No. 22 overall. Then, early in the second round, Philadelphia took another defensive back in Cooper DeJean at pick No. 40. What many viewed as a reach for Mitchell and a steal for DeJean has proven to be one of the most successful draft executions in recent memory. Mitchell and DeJean came in at No. 3 on PFF's list, trailing only Christian Benford and Taron Johnson of the Buffalo Bills and the Houston Texans' duo of Derek Stingley Jr. and Kamari Lassiter. The impact was immediate and dramatic. The revamp happened overnight, as Philadelphia went from 31st in pass yards allowed per game (252.7) to first (174.2), a difference of 78.5 yards. This improvement wasn't just about scheme changes under new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio — it was about having two elite talents ready to contribute from day one. Mitchell, who plays almost exclusively on the outside, did not allow a touchdown in coverage until Week 16, despite starting the entire season. He finished with just two scores allowed all year and 15 forced incompletions — third most in the NFL. Mitchell ranked eighth among cornerbacks in PFF overall grade (78.4), while DeJean's 82.0 mark tied for third. Among 60 qualifying rookie cornerbacks over the past six seasons, their PFF overall grades rank third and seventh, respectively. Advertisement DeJean's story is remarkable considering his delayed start due to a hamstring injury that limited him to just eight defensive snaps over the first four games. But once he gained his footing, DeJean became nearly unshakable — not allowing a touchdown on 97 targets during the regular season. His signature moment came in Super Bowl LIX, when DeJean became the first player in Super Bowl history to intercept a pass or score a touchdown on his birthday, returning a Patrick Mahomes pass 38 yards for a touchdown. It was only the second pick-6 by a rookie in Super Bowl history and helped propel the Eagles to a 40-22 victory over Kansas City. Both rookies were finalists for Defensive Rookie of the Year, with Mitchell finishing as the runner-up to Jared Verse and DeJean coming in fourth. Their exceptional play was instrumental in the Eagles winning their second Super Bowl in the last seven years. With Vic Fangio returning as defensive coordinator and a full year of NFL experience under their belts, the foundation for sustained excellence is already in place. Throughout his time running the Eagles' front office, Howie Roseman has put together a strong track record when it comes to the draft, and with Mitchell and DeJean already viewed as a top-3 CB duo, it appears he has struck gold yet again. Advertisement The Eagles' cornerback room transformation from liability to elite unit in a single season stands as one of the most dramatic turnarounds in recent NFL history. With Mitchell and DeJean now established as a top-3 cornerback duo entering just their second season, the future looks incredibly bright for Philadelphia's defense. 2026 4-star RB and Texas A&M commit has shut down his recruitment

2026 4-star RB and Texas A&M commit has shut down his recruitment Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko was 100% on the mark this offseason when discussing Texas A&M's strong foundation under his leadership, which was proven this weekend during one of the biggest recruiting weekends of the summer, as the Aggies hosted 18 2026 prospects, including several commitments. Two of the top names in A&M's 2026 cycle include four-star wide receiver Aaron Gregory and four-star running back Jonathan Hatton, who both shut down their recruitment on Saturday afternoon during the third day of their official visits. Gregory, who has been heavily pursued by Texas and others this offseason, noted his strong relationship with the coaching staff and sees himself as a perfect fit in Texas A&M's offense. For Hatton, after re-affirming his commitment earlier in the day, the Cibolo (TX) native followed Gregory in taking to social media (X) to announce that he will shut down his recruitment and cancel is future official visits, which includes his OV to Oklahoma on June 20, as the future starting running back is "1,000% locked in with Texas A&M." On the field, Hatton is an elite runner with the vision, footwork, and upfield burst to become a star at the next level, having produced 1,229 yards and 20 touchdowns while averaging 9.17 yards per carry. With Le'Veon Moss leaving after the 2025 season, bringing Hatton into the backfield lineup will provide immediate depth in 2026. According to 247Sports Composite, Hatton is currently positioned as the 77th-ranked prospect in the 2026 class, the 5th-ranked running back, and the 10th-ranked prospect in Texas.
