The Mercedes-Branded F1 Electric Bike Looks Beautiful but Is So, So Heavy

As we reported last week, even electric-auto maker Rivian is getting in on that sweet, sweet electric bike action. And at first glance, the N+ Bikes Mercedes-AMG F1 electric bike looks to be another bike in a continuing trend of auto manufacturers making and selling much smaller motor-powered vehicles.
But unlike Ford's electric bike, this specific class II ebike isn't made by Mercedes. Even if it has the iconic three-pointed star on the frame (and it is an officially licensed product of Mercedes AMC Petronas Formula One Team), it's designed and manufactured by N+ Bikes, based out of California.
The aluminum, fully rigid frame has a sleek, race-car appeal. Its matte black color pops with well-placed Petronas green (aka turquoise) highlights in the interior of the fork and chain stays, a nod to Formula One fans. The bike's cockpit looks like a miniature Mercedes dashboard, complete with two retro speedometers—one for speed and the other for watts. The former tops out at 60 mph, despite the fact that the motor legally has to cut out when speeds reach 20 mph. Still, if you're a Mercedes fan, this will probably matter to you that the bike is Mercedes-branded, not Mercedes-made.

What about the stats? E-spec-wise, the bike has a powerful motor for a commuter, 750 watts, that lives in the rear-wheel hub and provides four modes of power from Normal to Race. The 48-volt battery lives in the down tube and offers an advertised range of 70 miles.
There's space to store an additional 48-volt battery (sold separately) in the very thick and futuristic-looking seat post. Neither of the batteries are easily removable, making it a challenging bike to charge from the office or to use in a cold-weather destination, where batteries often need to be brought inside.

MONTREAL — The Las Vegas Grand Prix will remain part of the Formula One calendar for at least the next two years after officials confirmed they have agreed an extension to cover 2026 and 2027. Las Vegas joined the F1 calendar in 2023 on an initial three-year contract, albeit with a long-term commitment in place from the casino partners and a 10-year approval from Clark County for the race to take place along the Strip. Advertisement Earlier this week, F1 announced the 2026 calendar including Las Vegas despite there being no formal communication about the race being renewed beyond this year. Senior leadership members from casino partners including Wynn, the MGM Grand, Caesars and the Venetian, plus the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, were in Montreal on Saturday to take part in a media panel discussing the future of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, and referred to an 'extension' being in place. Asked by The Athletic to clarify the contractual status of the grand prix, Emily Prazer, the president of the Las Vegas Grand Prix and chief commercial officer of F1, confirmed that a two-year renewal had been agreed by the various partners. 'We've agreed collectively that we're going to do a two-year extension for 2026 and '27,' Prazer said. 'We want to make sure that we're continuing to evolve what we're doing. But the intent is a much longer-term arrangement. 'As we all know, the race has had its challenges, but we're coming out the other side. So we want to make sure that it continues to work for both sides. 'So collectively, we sat down and agreed that was the best approach. We're very much planning longer-term, but that's kind of where we're at right now.' Steve Hill, the CEO and president of the LVCVA, added: 'The length of extensions don't really reflect anything other than it just makes sense incrementally, we know what's going to happen over the next couple of years. 'We're planning on this being a permanent race, we'll just keep planning extensions that will probably expand as we go forward.' The Las Vegas Grand Prix endured a tricky debut in 2023 amid concerns from fans about ticket and hotel prices, as well as an issue with a loose water valve cover on Thursday night in practice that led to FP1 being cancelled and FP2 being significantly delayed. Advertisement But it ended up being one of the best races of the year with plenty of overtaking, and the track layout proved popular with the drivers, while the high price points were addressed for 2024, including a significant drop in hotel rates. For 2025, officials in Las Vegas have brought forward the start time from its previous slot of 10 p.m. PT on Saturday to 8 p.m. after feedback from both paddock personnel and fans about it being too late to start the race. So all the bags fit, but it sure wasn't pretty. Nor was it easy to do, with the Big Blue bag awkwardly placed diagonally in the back, the Green Bag plopped on top at its own weight angle and the Fancy Bag just barely fitting. It took a lot of tries to get here, and again, the reason is that angled opening. Actually, let me amend that last sentence: It took me a lot of tries to get there in the HR-V, because after two attempts in the ADX, I gave up and looked back to see what nonsense I eventually came up with in the Honda. Now, while the HR-V's result underwhelmed for its segment, that's not the case when lining up the ADX's identical result in its luxury segment. As always, it's a matter of perspective. This result is better than the rather lame Audi Q3, which has an even worse liftgate angle. Utilizing the Volvo XC40's underfloor storage area allows it to match this result with all the bags loaded. The BMW X1 with its available spare tire also matches this result, but its cargo area is much boxier and far easier to load as a result. (Without a spare tire, the X1 would be superior.) The Mercedes GLA accepted all the bags and had room left over and is therefore higher on the leaderboard. The Mercedes GLB, meanwhile, is by far the segment champion thanks to its ultra-boxy cargo area. So, the ADX's capacity is OK for the segment, but its shape makes for difficult loading. It's also the same as the HR-V, but again, that's not surprising. Now, for some odds and ends.

Waaree Solar Americas secures 599MW solar module supply deal in US

Waaree Solar Americas, the US subsidiary of India's solar PV module manufacturer, Waaree Energies, has signed a 599MW solar module supply agreement with an undisclosed independent power producer in the US. The modules will be manufactured at Waaree's manufacturing facility in Brookshire, Texas, with delivery anticipated in 2026. The company has secured 1.2GW in new orders in the US during the first quarter (Q1) of 2025/26, due to increased demand from AI-driven data centre growth, infrastructure upgrades and industrial electrification. To meet this increasing demand, Waaree Energies is boosting its production capabilities with the construction of an additional 1.6GW solar module manufacturing unit at its Brookshire site. This expansion will take the company's total manufacturing capacity in the US to 3.2GW before the end of 2025. The move aims to strengthen Waaree's service offerings for utility-scale and commercial and industrial solar projects. Waaree Solar Americas president Sunil Rathi stated: "This agreement is a strong testament to Waaree's commitment to developing a robust, US-based clean energy ecosystem.
