Sourcemind Academy sponsored by Webb Fontaine, lays the groundwork for technology and skills transfer within the Guinea's Single Window for Foreign Trade (GUCEG) framework: 15 young Guineans trained in software engineering
As part of the skills and technology transfer process outlined by the commitments under the concession for Guinea's Single Window for Foreign Trade (GUCEG), Webb Fontaine (www.WebbFontaine.com), in collaboration with Sourcemind Training Academy, proudly celebrates the successful graduation of the first cohort from its software engineering training program.
This six-month program is fully aligned with the national capacity- building strategy and embodies the vision of transferring technical expertise to the Guinean State as the GUCEG concession approaches its completion.
Through this initiative, Webb Fontaine concretely demonstrates its commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) by fostering local expertise capable of maintaining, enhancing, and innovating technological systems, particularly those related to GUCEG.
Of the 18 candidates enrolled, 15 graduates from this inaugural cohort have gained specialized skills in Java development, Java Spring, databases, data structures and algorithms, DevOps, and front-end development. They have worked on practical projects addressing real-world needs, such as learning management systems, HR platforms, and commercial management tools.
'These achievements represent a critical milestone in the strategy to sustain GUCEG's technological gains. They also lay the foundation for a more autonomous local IT ecosystem, essential for the ongoing technical and operational continuity of Guinea's digital administrative systems.This first cohort trained through Sourcemind Academy reflects our strong commitment to ensuring the sustainability of GUCEG's technological assets by investing in local, resilient expertise,' said Mamady Doumbouya, Director General of GUCEG.
'At Webb Fontaine, we believe that true digital transformation comes through knowledge transfer. This graduation marks our concrete commitment to a sovereign digital future for Guinea,' said Alioune Ciss, CEO of Webb Fontaine.

Guinea repossess 51 mining licences, information minister says
Guinea's military government has taken back 51 mining licences as it steps up efforts to repossess claims or concessions where operations have either not been launched or where it says permits are being underutilised, its information minister said. Reuters first reported that the government planned to cancel the licences on Thursday. Fana Soumah announced in a televised address late Thursday night that Guinea's military ruler Mamady Doumbouya had signed the repossession decree, which covers bauxite, gold, diamond, graphite and iron concessions. The concessions had been "returned free of charge to the state," Soumah said, citing multiple articles in Guinea's mining code as legal justification for the licence withdrawals. Guinea is home to the world's largest reserves of bauxite, the main ore used to produce aluminium, and its exports are crucial to global production of the industrial metal, particularly in China and Russia. It had previously moved to withdraw bauxite licences belonging to Kebo Energy SA and Emirates Global Aluminium. "Government pressure on Guinea's bauxite industry is building," said Tom Price, investment bank Panmure Liberum's head of commodities. "We suspect Guinea's government is consolidating the number of foreign bauxite miners, and forcing the reformed industry to invest in local downstream processing capacity," he added. However, another analyst familiar with Guinea's mining sector operations, who asked not to be named, said the companies affected by the decree were inconsequential players. Guinean authorities did not respond to requests for comment on their planned next steps. The decree affects mining operations with licenses granted between 2005 and 2023. Some of the permits had already expired while others would have still remained valid for decades. The move reflects an increasingly complex operating climate in West Africa, where military regimes in Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso have tightened control over mineral assets since 2020 in a bid to boost revenues. Sharjah explores cooperation with Guinean cities in higher education and civil aviation
Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi: Sharjah is committed to sustainable development partnerships with African nations The Sharjah Department of Government Relations (DGR) explored avenues for strengthening cooperation in higher education, civil aviation, and cultural exchange with a high-level Guinean delegation led by His Excellency Sekou Cherifke Camara, Ambassador of Guinea to the United Arab Emirates. Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of DGR, welcomed the ambassador and emphasised the importance of fostering dialogue and enhancing cooperation with African nations. He stressed the importance of exploring joint development opportunities that promote regional stability and serve the mutual interests of both parties. During the meeting, the Guinean ambassador conveyed his country's interest in encouraging Guinean students to pursue higher education in Sharjah. He also discussed the potential establishment of scholarship opportunities and expressed interest in arranging visits to academic institutions across the emirate.
