Virat Kohli has gotten 'softer' since Anushka Sharma, doesn't 'care' about his image: 'Opposite to Shah Rukh Khan'

Virat Kohli is aggressive, nice and loud, but at the same time, is also a softie, a family man and a loving husband. His body language depicts a lot of things. Kohli, like anyone, has made a natural progression in his life, evolving with time. Leave aside his batting, captaincy and other cricketing traits, it's the overhaul in his off-the-field behaviour that has turned upside down. During the 2016 World T20, Kohli, very famously, had questioned one of the journalists 'Do I look the pooja-paath types to you?' From there to visiting shrines with his wife and kids, Kohli has become a changed man, much more disciplined, focussed and sensitive. "Opposite to Shah Rukh Khan, whose body language has remained the same throughout, Kohli's body language has changed a lot. In his initial videos, Kohli's posture while sitting used to be a lot more restricted. Today, he sits with his arms up, which is a total change," Body Language expert Kanan Tandi told YouTube Raj Shamani on his show. Kohli is box office. There is no two ways about it. Be it batting, fielding, or barely sitting in the dugout, the cameras love Kohli. He loves to have a word or two with players of the opposition camp. But despite all the colour that he brings to the game, one can't help but consider just how much he's mellowed over the years. On the field, he has. Deep down, Kohli is a very playful person. On camera, he does not want to show it. When the camera is not on him, he is someone who likes to chit-chat, but the moment the camera comes on, he becomes conscious. Kohli has an inner child, which comes out when he's either with Anushka Sharma or his teammates – his boys – Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Ravindra Jadeja. He is always seen joking around them and having fun. He is as involved on the ground as he is in the dressing room. When he is with his people, Kohli is truly the boy whom millions of Indians relate to. Then again, he has an aggressive side, albeit it is strictly competitive. And then, there is the Anushka effect. It is believed that Kohli was always a star, but he became an icon since Anushka. It's after 2013, when they first met, that Kohli went on this journey from being an amazing player to a wonderful, idealistic man. He gives his family time. He knows where and when he needs his privacy. Kohli doesn't shy away from mentioning his better half and the role she has played in his life. He openly addressed the person he was before and now. In all ways, Kohli is setting the perfect example for this country's youth. "He's become softer, gentler since Anushka entered his life," says Tandi. "It makes a difference when a girl comes into your life. You have to scan another area altogether – relationship, marriage, kids. This explains another perspective of Virat, that he is very open to learning. There's a famous saying that the best apology is a changed behaviour. He doesn't have to apologise or anything, but that just shows that he has kept changing with time. "I saw a video where he was telling a journalist that he needs his privacy. He understands that value. Even when he was saying it, he was doing so politely. Kohli's aggression is not the same which it once was."

Nicholas Pooran named captain of Mumbai Indians owned MI New York in MLC, a day after international retirement

A day after Nicholas Pooran's retirement from international cricket at the age of 29 created ripples in the fraternity, the attacking left-handed batter was appointed as captain of the Mumbai Indians-owned franchise, MI New York, for the upcoming season of Major League Cricket (MLC) on Wednesday. The move further strengthens the notion of franchise cricket dictating terms on how players across the globe perceive international cricket. "...there's a new commander in town - captain Nicholas Pooran," the inaugural MLC champions posted on X. "This left-handed wicket-keeper batter is one of the world's most feared batters going around. At the peak of his powers currently, he's all set to take us to greater glories under his leadership," stated the franchise, which is owned by Reliance Industries, the owners of IPL side Mumbai Indians. The 29-year-old Pooran announced his retirement from international cricket on Tuesday after "much thought and reflection" even though he did not give any specific reasons for his stunning decision. Pooran's retirement came a few days after South Africa's T20 superstar Heinrich Klaasen decided to call it quits from international cricket. With franchise cricket gaining momentum in every prominent cricket-playing nation, more and more players are likely to prioritise it over international cricket because of financial gains. Cricket West Indies, New Zealand Cricket, Sri Lanka Cricket and Cricket South Africa are not as financially sound as the big three - BCCI, Cricket Australia and England and Wales Cricket Board. Pooran scored the most runs in the 2023 MLC season, with 388. The third season will begin on Thursday. MI New York also features international stars like Quinton de Kock, Kieran Pollard, and Rashid Khan. "You really don't need to look beyond his 137 not out at the MLC Final to know that. Can't wait to relive the same in 2025, Nicky!" the team said. Pooran, who plays for Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL and features for all other MI franchises globally, announced his retirement from international cricket just days after opting out of selection for the T20I series against England. He ended as the West Indies' most capped T20I player with 106 matches. He was also the country's highest run-getter, with a tally of 2275 at an average of 26.14 and a strike rate of 136.39. In 61 ODI appearances, he scored 1983 runs at an average of 39.66 and a strike rate of 99.15. He never played Test cricket for his country. Pooran had a magnificent IPL season in 2024, hitting the most sixes in a calendar year (170) before finishing IPL 2025 with 524 runs at a strike rate of 196.25, including five half-centuries.

Gautam Gambhir, Shubman Gill poked by England; told India will 'miss Virat Kohli's aura, chirping': 'Our boys are ready'

Eighteen years. 18. That's how long it's been since India last won a Test series in England. In these last 18 years, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin made their debuts, carved out a legacy like no other and retired. Yet, a win in England has eluded their Test careers. And now, in 2025, as a young Indian team takes centre-stage in England, while they are clearly not the favourites to break the hoodoo, do not rule out the element of surprise. Look no further than the 2020-21 tour of Australia, where a young Indian team, battling injuries, did the unthinkable and wrapped up a memorable 2-1 series win. India have not lost a Test series to England since 2018. They beat England 3-1 at home in 2021, drew the series 2-2 away in 2021-2022 and defeated them again last year at home 4-1. However, the upcoming series, starting in 10 days' time, offers a fresh challenge. With new captain Shubman Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir in charge, India embark on a new World Test Championship cycle, ushering in the post-Kohli-Rohit-Ashwin era, in search of finding and building new superstars. Also Read: Kane Williamson identifies the 'next Fab 4' of world cricket after him, Kohli, Smith, Root; two Indians get the honour The retirement of Virat Kohli, with a little over a month to go for the Test series, threw the fans off guard, but more than the Indians, the Englishmen seem to be more affected by it. Current and former cricketers are ruing not having Kohli in England, including Ollie Pope, who reckons India will certainly miss having their most successful captain in the UK. Pope has no reservations about the pool of young talent that the Indian squad has been injected with. But well, at the end of the day, there is only one Virat Kohli. Also Read: Sourav Ganguly fires shots at Agarkar, BCCI for dropping Shreyas Iyer from India squad, says 'not a player to be left out' "It's a young team, but these Indian players… they have got so much depth and talent. So they've got a lot of young guys coming through; a lot of good players. Shubman Gill, their new captain, is a fantastic player. They will miss the aura of Virat Kohli standing at slips and chirping away. But they have got some good talent, so they will feel confident. But our players are ready for it," Pope said during an interaction with talkSPORT cricket. Pope says England, who haven't faced a quality Test team over the last 12 months, are thrilled to have a team like India touring is the perfect preparation for the big one later this year – the Ashes in Australia. However, he is not making the mistake of considering the series against India an afterthought. More so, given England's seven-year-long wait to win a Test series against the Men in Blue. "It's a great time for us to play India. Last summer, we had the West Indies and Sri Lanka, but with India coming over, the level of quality that they will bring is a great way for us to focus on that and not look ahead. So yeah, for us, it's the perfect time to play India, and then once the Ashes come around, it will be exciting," Pope pointed out.
