Hamilton targets first Ferrari podium
The 40-year-old seven-time world champion, who switched from Mercedes to Ferrari this year, qualified fifth on Saturday and will line up alongside his 'silver arrows' successor Kimi Antonelli on the third row of Sunday's grid.
Leclerc qualified seventh.
For Hamilton it was a dramatic change of fortunes after describing his car as "not driveable' in practice on Friday when former Mercedes team-mate, 2016 world champion Nico Rosberg, suggested his age was slowing him down.
"I had a floor problem in FP2 on Friday," explained Hamilton.
"So, I lost a lot of down-force and the balance of the car shifted. We managed to fix it and the car is much more driveable and enjoyable today.
"To get into Q3 and the top five, I'm very happy with that and I'm looking forward to tomorrow. I can race in this car!
"The long run will be challenging for everyone and choosing which tyres and which strategy are best. But we'll see. My goal is to get a podium. I haven't had one for so long – so that's my target."
Hamilton last secured a podium finish, the 202nd of his career, in Las Vegas last November. He will seek his first podium in 10 races.
The Circuit de Catalunya, venue for the Spanish race, is one of his favourites. He has won a record-equalling six times, shared with Michael Schumacher, and taken pole six times. He has won 105 races in his career.
Team-mate Leclerc said he chose to conserve tyres and did not make a second flying run in Q3.
"I had no tyres left so I didn't go out again. I knew it would be difficult but I made my own choice and I hope it pays off tomorrow."

Verstappen punished after ramming into Russell
The incident happened shortly after racing restarted with five laps left following a safety car. Verstappen immediately lost third to Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and then went off the track as he tried to hold off Russell's Mercedes. Verstappen's Red Bull team told their driver to hand the place to Russell, the Dutchman appeared about to do that as he slowed into turn five with two laps left. Instead he speared into the Mercedes. "Wait for the opponent, go ramming into him, just like you felt the other guy rammed into you at turn one." "I think the rules would be a black flag, yes. If you wait for your opponent to bang into him, that's a black flag." After the race, Verstappen accused Leclerc of driving into him while overtaking and said Russell pushed him off track, forcing him to take to the escape road to retain fourth place. Verstappen did not deny that his move on Russell – with whom he was involved in a war of words last season – was deliberate. "Does it matter?" he said. "I prefer to speak about the race than just one single moment." Verstappen brushed aside talk of his defence of his drivers' title. "We are way too slow anyway to fight for the title. I think that was clear again today," he said. Asked by Sky whether his reputation being tarnished by the collisions and penalty, he said: "Is it? Well that's your opinion. We will leave it there." Russell said Verstappen's move remind him of video games. "I was as surprised as you guys were," he told reporters. "I've seen these manoeuvres before on simulator games and in go-karting, but never in F1. "Ultimately, we came home in P4 and he came home in P10. I don't know what was going through his mind. It felt deliberate in the moment so, yeah, it was a bit surprising. "It is down to the stewards to decide if its deliberate or not. Max is such an amazing driver and so many people look up to him. It's a shame that something like that continues to occur. It seems totally unnecessary and it never seems to benefit himself." Leclerc and Verstappen were both called to the stewards' office after the race to assist in more investigations into their collision.

Dembele, Doue among seven PSG players on Champions League team of the season
PSG won the trophy for the first time by thrashing Inter Milan 5-0 in Munich on Saturday. Dembele, who hit eight goals over the competition, did not score in the final but he provided two assists and his overall performance drew praise from the UEFA Technical Observer Group. "Dembele has taken on the role of a leader in the Paris Saint-Germain team, as we saw in the final with how he worked so hard, pressing from the front," explained the committee. "He created doubts for their opponents match after match with his clever movement, dropping deep to give his team superiority in the midfield." McLaren's Piastri wins Spanish Grand Prix
Piastri, who started in pole position, finished ahead of teammate Lando Norris, with Ferrari's Charles Leclerc rounding out the podium. The victory was Piastri's fifth of the season and saw the Australian extend his championship lead from three points to 10.
