Legendary English footballer David Beckham is set to be knighted next week in the King's Birthday Honours list, reports said on Friday.
The 50-year-old is set to be bestowed with the prestigious title 'Sir' by King Charles III next week in recognition of his services to the beautiful game and his charity work.
Beckham, who won 1115 international caps for the Three Lions, is set to join other illustrious names in British sporting history, including former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and tennis stalwart Andy Murray.
Beckham was appointed an officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2003 before his wife and former Spice Girls star Victoria was conferred with the same for her services to the fashion industry.
Beckham, who has been a UNICEF goodwill ambassador since 2005, is also part of the King's Foundation, lending support to educational initiatives to ensure a greater awareness amongst the next generation about nature.
The former Manchester United star was set to receive the high honour back in 2012 for his efforts in bringing the Olympics to United Kingdom, but the nomination was put on fold following alleged tax evasion charges which were eventually dropped.
Beckham made over 700 appearances in an illustrious career highlighted by his incredible free-kick abilities and pin-point long through passes. The iconic '7' clinched the Premier League title six times in addition to a UEFA Champions Trophy during his storied time at Man United under Ferguson.
However, Beckham made the switch to Spanish giants Real Madrid following a spat with Ferguson in 2003, where he was part of the Galacticos up until the year 2007 as the Englishman opted for a switch to the USA with LA Galaxy. Beckham spent a couple of seasons on loan at Serie A heavyweights AC Milan before his switch to French side PSG, where he ultimately called time on his glittery career which included 127 goals across all competitions he played.
Beckham announced his desire to exercise the option of buying an MLS expansion team, Inter Miami, in 2014 and has taken the development of the Florida-based side to exponential heights following his efforts to rope in Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.

While speaking to Boria Majumdar on Revsportz, Arun said, 'Wrist spinners have always been effective, especially in England. Maybe even initially, when there is a little bit of dampness in the wicket, there is help for those wrist spinners. And also, the roughs that the bowlers create. But again, using the rough is a separate art.' Arun couldn't help drawing comparisons with some of the greats of the game, stressing that wrist spin has always been a part of the sport. 'It's not just about bowling. I think somebody who instantly comes to our mind is Shane Warne. I think Kuldeep has got enough skills to be successful in England,' he remarked. India's new-look bowling attack will also hope their young guns rise to the occasion in England. According to Arun, these young talents have plenty of potential despite their inexperience. 'If you look at this bowling attack, yes, it is relatively inexperienced, but it's got huge potential,' he added. Kuldeep Yadav, in good touch across formats of late, may have a significant role to play in India's plans especially if conditions start to turn and bounce as the Test matches progress. It sure seemed like it at times in Game 1 of the series, anyway — and odds are, there will be more of those moments throughout the rest of this matchup between the Pacers and Thunder. There are four Canadians in the series, and two of them — NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for the Thunder and Andrew Nembhard for the Pacers — went head-to-head plenty in Game 1. Gilgeous-Alexander scored 38 points; Nembhard scored eight of his 14 in the fourth and was on the floor for the entirety of Indiana's 32-16 run that ended the game and turned a 15-point deficit into a one-point win. 'He's a competitor. He's a winner,' Gilgeous-Alexander said. 'Plays the game the right way on both ends of the floor. Really good player. Yeah, he's a winner for sure. No doubt.' They have been playing alongside each other since they were kids and were teammates on Canada's national team at the Paris Olympics in 2024.
