MoCI-led workshop bolsters fight against counterfeit goods

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in cooperation with the Brand Owners' Protection Group (Gulf BPG), organised a training workshop on Wednesday entitled 'Combating Trademark Infringement and Identifying Genuine and Counterfeit Products' held at the Ministry's headquarters in Lusail City.
The workshop aimed to raise awareness about the importance of observing intellectual property rights and support national efforts combatting trademark infringement and protecting intellectual property rights.
Participants in the workshop included representatives from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry's Intellectual Property Rights Protection Department and the Consumer Protection and Commercial Fraud Department, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Interior's Department for Combating Economic and Cyber Crimes – and the General Authority of Customs.
The training programme featured a practical review of products from a number of global companies and their trademarks. It also included an explanation of the methods used to distinguish between genuine and counterfeit products in the Qatari market. Additionally, it highlighted key field challenges faced by law enforcement officers during inspection campaigns, discussed ways to enhance coordination between the concerned authorities to detect violations, and reviewed the latest technologies used in identifying counterfeit goods.
The workshop is part of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry's efforts to strengthen cooperation between the public and private sectors. It contributes to enhancing the efficiency of the Ministry's specialised personnel, developing their skills in detecting counterfeit and fraudulent products, and applying best practices in intellectual property protection — thereby ensuring a secure commercial environment that safeguards the rights of consumers and trademark owners in the State of Qatar.

In statements to Qatar News Agency (QNA), she said that, with Qatar's participation in the flagship Art Basel fair in Switzerland, a new chapter has begun in the country's ongoing international cultural dialogue. Qatar's pavilion at Art Basel offers a rich glimpse into the rich heritage and ambitious vision for the future, with leading institutions such as Lusail Museum contributing to the promotion of artistic and intellectual exchange, she added, pointing out the participation of Qatar Airways as a distinguished partner of the fair. She emphasized that Qatar's pavilion offered a forward-looking vision of the future, showcasing selected works from the Lusail Museum's collection, along with an exceptional loan from the Arsene Museum, reflecting the promising potential of international cultural partnerships. She noted the preview of Al Maha Island, the future home of Lusail Museum, as well as the showcase of Qatari culinary arts during the exhibition. Qatar Museums, represented by the Lusail Museum, is participating in Art Basel 2025 in Basel, Switzerland, which runs until June 22. HEC Paris Middle East cohort celebrated at main campus commencement ceremony
Tribune News Network Doha HEC Paris, one of the world's top-ranked business schools, recently hosted its annual graduation ceremony at the institution's main campus in near Paris. The commencement celebrated the achievements of 148 graduates from the Executive MBA (EMBA) and the Specialized Master's in Strategic Business Unit Management (SBUM) programs, marking the largest and most diverse graduating cohorts in the history of HEC Paris in the Gulf. The Class of 2025 reflects the growing regional footprint of HEC Paris, which has operated in the Middle East for over 15 years. Of the graduates, 73% were Gulf nationals and 40% were women.
