Yahoo14-05-2025

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Downtown Norfolk Council (DNC) announced the return of its First Fridays block party series.
The event, which was canceled in September of 2021 despite its success, will kick off on Friday, Aug. 1, 2025. According to officials, around 5,000 people attended each block party in 2021, bringing a financial boost to local businesses.
Previous: 'First Fridays' returns to Downtown Norfolk
A release states a recent financial approval from the city to have more events is what helped to bring back the popular community event to Downtown Norfolk. So far, four dates have been announced:
Aug. 1, 2025 from 5-8:30 p.m.
Sept. 5, 2025 from 5-8:30 p.m.
April 3, 2026 from 5-8:30 p.m.
May 1, 2026 from 5-8:30 p.m.
'We are incredibly grateful for the City of Norfolk's commitment to enhancing our downtown experience in a way that will increase visitation,' President and CEO of DNC Mary Miller said. 'First Fridays have always been a fantastic way to showcase the vibrancy of the Downtown neighborhood, support local businesses, and bring the entire Norfolk community together. We can't wait to welcome everyone back for these four exciting dates.'
DNC has partnered with LAVA Presents, a local concert and event promoter, for First Fridays in order to bring a variety of musical acts to the mermaid city. No BS! Brass was announced as the event's first musical lineup for August.
'I'm excited to be partnering with DNC for the return of First Fridays and to bring a variety of music to downtown Norfolk! I can't think of anyone better to kick it off than the one and only No BS! Brass,' owner of LAVA Presents Josh Coplon said.
The free event will take place on Granby Street, Market Street and College Place in front of the TCC Plaza, and will feature live bands, local food and craft vendors and interactive activities.
More information on future First Fridays events will be announced closer to the dates. For updates, sponsorship opportunities and vendor applications, click here.
