Nashik: Industrialists in the Ambad MIDC, located within the limits of NMC, are irked by the terrible condition of roads in the estate and the civic body's failure to repair them.
According to the Ambad Industries and Manufacturers Association (AIMA), potholes have surfaced on all major and internal roads in Ambad Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) areas, making driving risky for motorists.
They added that the roads here have not been re-laid for the past 15 years.
MIDC had previously handed over roads in both Ambad and Satpur industrial estates to Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC), which repairs and maintains these stretches and streetlights on them. In turn, the industries pay a property tax to the NMC.
Now, a delegation of AIMA, led by its president Lalit Boob, met officiating NMC commissioner Karishma Nair, seeking immediate road repairs and concreting of all roads in the Ambad industrial areas.
Boob also urged the NMC commissioner to make adequate financial provisions in the civic budget for infrastructure improvement in both MIDC areas.
In response, Nair said NMC has made a financial provision of Rs8.5 crore for Ambad industrial estate and Rs6 crore for Satpur MIDC areas, and improvement works will start in the next couple of weeks.
Boob told TOI, "Potholes and the poor condition of roads are slowing vehicle movement, causing traffic jams and minor accidents.
Moreover, workers are developing health issues and vehicle maintenance costs have risen. During peak hours of commute in the morning and evening, traffic jams are a regular affair."
Nikhil Panchal, an industrialist, said, "The condition of roads, particularly in Ambad MIDC areas, has deteriorated further. It is causing huge inconvenience. We want NMC to immediately repair all roads using tar. Moreover, we also want the civic administration to re-lay all major and minor roads in Ambad industrial areas."
He added, "We expected NMC to repair the roads by April, but it could not. Heavy rain has been lashing the city since May 5, further deteriorated the condition of the roads."
There are around 2,000 micro, small, medium, and large industrial units in Ambad MIDC areas, providing employment to over 1 lakh workers. There is also continuous movement of heavy trucks and containers here to transport goods and dispatch finished products.

Pilot Deadline Missed, IITMS Signal Installation at 10 Junctions to be Completed in Two Weeks
1 2 Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is racing against time to complete the pilot phase of its ambitious Rs197 crore Intelligent and Integrated Traffic Management System (IITMS). At a review meeting held on Wednesday, municipal commissioner Abhijeet Chaudhari directed the electrical department to finish installing smart signals at 10 key city junctions by June 15. Software operations will commence simultaneously from the NMC's command and control centre at its headquarters. Originally, the pilot project was scheduled for completion by April 30. After missing this deadline, the agency rescheduled it to May end. However, that deadline was also missed. Now, the civic chief has issued a stern ultimatum to the private contractor, warning of strict penal action if the revised June 15 deadline is not met. According to Rajendra Rathod, executive engineer of the NMC's electrical department, 90% of the required materials — including IT and controller boxes and other installation components — have already reached Nagpur. "Civil and cable-laying works are nearly complete. We're now ready to proceed with signal and system installation," he said. The pilot project is being executed in collaboration with Kerala-based system integrator Keltron and the city's traffic police. The selected junctions for this phase include Alankar Talkies, Kachipura, Bajaj Nagar, Abhyankar Nagar, Ajit Bakery T-point, LAD Square, Laxmi Nagar, Shraddhanandpeth Square, and Deekshabhoomi Square. The pilot will also feature trial runs of two to three of the planned 25 speed radars and LED-based variable messaging signboards, designed to provide commuters with real-time traffic updates. Once operational, the AI-powered IITMS will replace conventional signal timers with 171 adaptive traffic signals across the city. These signals will respond dynamically to live traffic conditions, potentially reducing travel time by 28-48% and increasing average vehicle speeds by 46-62%. Beyond easing congestion, the IITMS will include features such as red-light violation detection, automatic number plate recognition (ANPR), speed monitoring, and CCTV-based surveillance. All data will be fed into a centralized command centre, enabling automated e-challans and simulated emergency traffic control. The entire project is scheduled for completion by December 2026, with Keltron responsible for installation and a five-year maintenance period. Once the pilot phase is declared successful, the NMC will begin city-wide upgrades of the remaining 161 signals and associated infrastructure.

NMC to introduce policy to identify parking spaces, no-parking zones
Nashik: The civic body is drawing up a parking policy for the first time to address parking issues in the city. Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) is expected to introduce the policy within a month. The policy will help in identifying parking spaces and no parking zones. This initiative will help streamline traffic in the city and curb illegal parking. Speaking to TOI, a senior NMC official said that the policy will be introduced shortly. "We have already started preparing a policy with the help of a private agency with expertise in traffic and parking management. We have planned to start the pay-and-park system at 33 parking spaces, including 28 on-street and five off-street parking spaces. These spaces were earlier identified by the Smart City Corporation. The parking policy will include re-identification of these parking spaces across the city," said the senior NMC official. Out of the designated parking spaces, 'no parking zones' will be identified. If people park their vehicles in these zones, they will face action by the police authorities. This will help smoothen vehicular traffic in the city, said the NMC official. NMC is also planning multi-level or mechanical parking at some locations in the city. The parking policy will include identification of places where these projects will be developed, said the official. Moreover, the policy will include speed-reducing measures for all 52 junctions across the city to prevent mishaps and streamline traffic, he said. There are plans to start the 'pay-and-park' system in the city at the earliest. A tender will be floated immediately for deployment of private agencies to operate parking spaces, said the official. Although the vehicle population in Nashik city is increasing rapidly, there are currently no designated parking spaces, forcing vehicle owners to park on roadside. This has led to traffic jams during peak hours in several parts of old city area. City residents and social activists have been demanding that the NMC administration make parking spaces operational across the city to ease traffic congestion. Moreover, the traffic police have also written to the NMC administration several times, requesting that parking spaces be made operational at the earliest. Earlier in 2020, the agency appointed by the smart city corporation to start 'pay-n-park' across all 33 locations refused to operate the parking spaces, seeking an extension in the contract period by three years, a waiver of Rs 17.5 lakh royalty annually to NMC, and a hike in parking charges. There was no development in the last five years. Now, the NMC administration has decided to start parking spaces at various locations in the city. These locations will be identified through its parking policy.
