Several Paris Jewish institutions sprayed with green paint

Indian Express2 days ago

Five Jewish institutions were sprayed with green paint in Paris overnight and an investigation has been opened, a police source said on Saturday.
Police found the paint damage early on Saturday on the Shoah Memorial, which is the Holocaust museum in Paris, three synagogues and a restaurant in the historic Jewish neighbourhood of Le Marais, the source said.
Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau said on X that he was disgusted by these 'despicable acts targeting the Jewish community'. Israeli President Isaac Herzog said in a post on X later on Saturday that he was 'appalled by the attack' on Jewish institutions in the French capital.
'I call on the French authorities to act swiftly, and firmly to bring the perpetrators to justice, and to defend the Jewish community from hatred and attacks of any kind,' Herzog said.
It was not yet known who committed the damage, or why. The Interior Ministry did not respond to a request for comment on details of the incidents. France has seen a rise in hate crimes: last year police recorded an 11% rise in racist, xenophobic or antireligious crimes, according to official data published in March. The figures did not break down the attacks on different religions.

Israeli soldiers bar media from visiting West Bank villages on tour organized by Oscar winners

JERUSALEM — Israeli soldiers on Monday barred journalists from entering villages in the West Bank on a planned tour organized by the directors of the Oscar-winning movie 'No Other Land." The directors of the film, which focuses on Israeli settler attacks on Palestinians in the Israeli-occupied territory, said they had invited the journalists on the tour Monday to interview residents about increasing settler violence in the area. In video posted on X by the film's co-director, Yuval Abraham, an Israeli soldier tells a group of international journalists there is "no passage' in the area because of a military order. Basel Adra, a Palestinian co-director of the film who lives in the area, said the military then blocked the journalists from entering two Palestinian villages they had hoped to visit. Israel's military did not immediately respond to a request for comment. 'They don't want journalists to visit the villages to meet the residents,' said Adra, who had invited the journalists to his home. 'It's clear they don't want the world to see what is happening here.' Some of the surrounding area, including a collection of small Bedouin villages known as Masafer Yatta, was declared by the military to be a live-fire training zone in the 1980s. Some 1,000 Palestinians have remained there despite being ordered out, and journalists, human rights activists and diplomats have visited the villages in the past. Palestinian residents in the area have reported increasing settler violence since Oct. 7, 2023, when Hamas attacked Israel and kickstarted the war in the Gaza Strip. Israeli soldiers regularly move in to demolish homes, tents, water tanks and olive orchards — and Palestinians fear outright expulsion could come at any time. Adra said the journalists were eventually able to enter one of the villages in Masafer Yatta, but were barred from entering Tuwani, the village where he lives, and Khallet A-Daba, where he had hoped to take them. Adra said settlers arrived in Khallet A-Daba Monday and took over some of the caves where village residents live, destroying residents' belongings and grazing hundreds of sheep on village lands. The military demolished much of the village last month. 'No Other Land,' which won the Oscar this year for best documentary, chronicles the struggle by residents to stop the Israeli military from demolishing their villages. The joint Palestinian-Israeli production was directed by Adra, Hamdan Ballal, another Palestinian activist from Masafer Yatta, along with Israeli directors Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor. The film has won a string of international awards. Israel captured the West Bank in the 1967 Mideast war, along with the Gaza Strip and east Jerusalem. The Palestinians want all three for their future state and view settlement growth as a major obstacle to a two-state solution. Israel has built well over 100 settlements, home to over 500,000 settlers who have Israeli citizenship. The 3 million Palestinians in the West Bank live under seemingly open-ended Israeli military rule, with the Western-backed Palestinian Authority administering population centers. Israeli strike on Gaza kills 14 Palestinians, mostly women and children: hospitals

An Israeli strike on a residential building in the Gaza Strip on Monday killed 14 people, mostly women and children, according to health officials. The Shifa and al-Ahli hospitals confirmed the toll from the strike in the built-up Jabaliya refugee camp in northern Gaza, saying five women and seven children were among those killed. The Israeli military did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Israel says it only targets militants and tries to avoid harming civilians. It blames civilian deaths on Hamas because the militant group is entrenched in populated areas. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Direct Shopping From Adidas Franchise Store, Up To 50% Off Original Adidas Shop Now Undo The Israel-Hamas war began when Palestinian militants stormed into Israel on October 7, 2023, killing some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and abducting 251. Hamas is still holding 58 hostages, around a third of them believed to be alive, after most of the rest were released in ceasefire agreements or other deals. Israel's military campaign has killed over 54,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, according to Gaza's Health Ministry, which does not say how many of the dead were civilians or combatants. The offensive has destroyed vast areas of Gaza and displaced around 90 per cent of the population. Live Events Hamas has said it will only release the remaining hostages in return for more Palestinian prisoners, a lasting ceasefire and an Israeli pullout. Israel has vowed to continue the war until all the hostages are returned, and Hamas is defeated or disarmed and sent into exile. It has said it will maintain control of Gaza indefinitely and facilitate what it refers to as the voluntary emigration of much of its population. Palestinians and most of the international community have rejected the resettlement plans, viewing them as forcible expulsion.

Outrage over Boulder terror suspect Mohamed Sabry Soliman being initially described as 'white male'

Boulder terror attack suspect Mohamed Sabry Soliman was initially called a 'white male' before he was identified as an illegal immigrant from Egypt. Before the suspect of the antisemitic attack in Boulder, Colorado was identified as Mohamed Sabry, an Egyptian living in the country illegally, the suspect was described as a 'white male' by several news media outlets, triggering major social media outrage. Sabry used a makeshift flamethrower and hurled an incendiary device into a crowd in a targeted terror attack as he yelled 'Free Palestine'. The victims whose injury ranges from minor to serious are mostly old people between the ages of 67 to 88. The eldest victim is an 88-year-old holocaust refugee. The crowd was part of a volunteer group called Run for Their Lives which organizes events to call for the immediate release of Israeli hostages from Gaza. Several people were injured in the attack while a video from the scene showed the attacker shirtless holding two bottles of what appeared to be Molotov cocktails. It was based on this video that he was described as a 'white male' before it was revealed that he was an illegal immigrant. Mohamed Sabry Soliman 's original visa permit was till 2023 According to reports, 45-year-old Aoliman entered the country through Los Angeles International Airport on August 27, 2022 with a non-immigrant visa and was permitted to stay till February 26, 2023. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trending in in 2025: Local network access control [Click Here] Esseps Learn More Undo He filed a claim and was cleared for work authorization in March 2023 till March 2025 -- making Soliman an illegal immigrant now as he overstayed his visa for two months. Records revealed that he was denied a visa in 2005 and it is not yet known whether he made more attempts to get visa between 2005 and 2022. "The whitewashing's in full swing. MSNBC's reporting Mohamed Sabry Soliman as an Egyptian national, but they're playing dumb, claiming it's 'not clear immediately' when he arrived, how he got here, or if he's legal—after they screwed up earlier calling him a White male," one wrote on X reacting to the suspect being initially described as a 'while male'.
